Doutor Coffee Farm Setagaya Tamagawa-dori Store @ Setagaya-ku, Tokyo @ Cafe
Doutor Coffee Farm Setagaya Tamagawa-dori Store is a new type of coffee shop by Doutor located on Tamagawa-dori, connecting Seijo Gakuen entrance and Futakotamagawa on Route 246. The store has been rapidly expanding with over 10 locations including Sangenjaya, Shin-Yokohama, Machida, Tama Center, Kawasaki, Omiya, and more. The style seems to be inspired by cafes like Takakura-cho Coffee, Konaz Coffee, and Musashino Mori Coffee by Skylark. It opened on November 17, 2017, in the location where Denny's and later Shiro Yagi Coffee Shop used to be. The grey American-style entrance and the grand exterior with a stone structure and a gold signboard stand out prominently.
Upon entering the store, you are asked about smoking or non-smoking preferences. There is a smoking area in the backyard where only electronic cigarettes are allowed. The smoking area had more of a patio feel than a terrace seating. Inside the store, there are classical sofa seats in the back resembling a hotel bar, casual seats with rattan chairs in the front, and a large counter table. Further inside, on the left side, there are wooden benches and three completely different spaces to choose from.
Unlike other Doutor stores, you order at your seat and pay afterwards. Surprisingly, there are only three types of blended coffee and iced coffee available, with a single limited-time straight coffee option. The blended coffees available are The Modern with an acidic taste, The Classic with a bitter taste, and the standard Doutor blend. There are also a few other drink options like tea, juice, and ginger ale. Alcohol options are limited to Kirin Ichiban beer and non-alcoholic Zero Ichi. The food menu includes risotto, fruit sandwiches, bacon and vegetable sandwiches, hot dogs, five types of pasta, omurice, demi-glace hamburger, seafood doria, and more. For desserts, there are skillet pancakes, chiffon cake, French chiffon, pudding, four types of cakes, parfaits, and more.
The morning menu is available until 11:00, offering coffee or tea with toast for 500 yen, with options to add pizza toast for an additional 50 yen or hot dog or gratin for an additional 100 yen. Lunch is served from 11:00 to 14:00, offering five types of pasta and two types of omurice for 1,000 yen.
I chose the Classical Tamago Pudding for 450 yen and the Geisha Blend Coffee for 650 yen. The Geisha blend, a popular choice lately, is a blend of Geisha village coffee from Ethiopia and Panama, resulting in a smooth, elegant, and refreshing coffee. The pudding was of standard quality.
The store has a spacious free parking lot, allowing customers to relax in comfortable seating, work on their laptops at the counter, and use the space for various purposes.
