This is a tofu shop located in the Musashi-Koyama shopping street. It was my first time using this shop, but it is a common sight in shopping streets. They have a wide variety of products and I was impressed by their reasonable prices. I purchased:
- Tofu-filled steamed buns with soy milk (398 yen)
- Premium edamame tofu (162 yen)
- White sesame tofu skin (260 yen)
The tofu-filled steamed buns with soy milk were purchased for my husband's snack. I didn't eat them myself, but he said they were chewy and delicious. The premium edamame tofu had plenty of edamame in it and had a gentle flavor. The white sesame tofu skin was smooth and had an elegant taste with a strong sesame flavor.

I went to Musashi-Koyama on 2/23 and saw a healthy snack made from okara along the street. It caught my eye because it was a hard and healthy snack made from okara. I picked up two bags and while looking at the lunch boxes and tofu products at the entrance, I couldn't resist buying a shumai bento for 280 yen. It seemed like a good deal with 10 pieces of shumai on top of the rice. The shumai bento was small but had 10 pieces of shrimp shumai and pickles, which I thought was a good value. I froze the bento for the next day and had it with defrosted ikura rice while enjoying the shrimp shumai. When microwaved, the shrimp shumai became soft and fluffy, making it a good value for the price. The umeboshi-flavored okara snack was not as hard as I expected, but it had a pleasant sourness that I enjoyed. I bought two bags and finished them in no time.

I used to frequent the shops in Okachimachi and Akabane, but they have disappeared so I haven't been there for a while. Recently, I found my favorite store in the Musashikoyama shopping street, so I visited after a long time. I bought my beloved Zima-mi tofu and fried garlic. The fried garlic, which is popular lately, is quite a good deal. I would be happy if there was a store nearby. (^o^)

Mokura is closing down rapidly, with two nearby stores also closing due to rising ingredient costs causing a loss of 5500 yen. Despite the business thriving, I was determined to buy tofu miso pickles from Mokura, so I rode my bike for 40 minutes to get to Musashikoyama. Next to Mokura, there was a trendy Italian café from Nakameguro. The waitress was smiling and trying to attract customers, but as a socially awkward, unpopular guy, I quickly left without entering. Young people who can confidently enter such a café must be socially adept. Mokura, my oasis, always showers me with unconditional love. The shop has many older ladies, making it easy for me to shop without feeling nervous. Although the shop is small, it offers a good variety of products, including dried goods and seeds. I ended up buying the tofu miso pickles and a cup dessert. The tiramisu and cheesecake for 200 yen each are a result of the company's efforts, and they taste great. Despite the tough business situation, I appreciate that they don't pass on the price increase to customers.

On February 7th, it's "Hatsu Uma" (First Horse) in Japan. I recently learned that on this day, there is a custom of eating Inari Sushi. I was wondering if this tradition is common or if it's just something I didn't know about. It seems like it's not very well-known, but visiting an Inari Shrine on Hatsu Uma is said to bring good luck. I didn't have time to visit a shrine, so I decided to eat Inari Sushi instead to boost my luck. I usually have "Seasoned Inari" in my fridge, which is easy to prepare as it's already cooked in a special sauce. It's great for quick meals or to pack for lunch. Although I didn't include it this time, mixing in simmered hijiki seaweed with rice and stuffing it into the fried tofu pouches is also delicious. It's a super quick recipe since you just mix and stuff, making it a convenient option. This restaurant has over 40 locations in Tokyo alone, and it's affordable, tasty, and easy to use.

Every time I go to Palm Shopping Street, I can't help but peek inside. The storefront is very simple. I used to think it was a temporary store because there are often pop-up shops here for a week, but I finally realized that it's a permanent shop. They mainly sell soy products and various types of tofu, but they also have side dishes. I often buy sweets made with soy milk to alleviate my guilt a little, but I know they're probably still loaded with sugar, so it may not make much difference. I used to buy tiramisu and matcha pudding a lot, but this time I bought a new product, "Soy Milk Chestnut Cake." It was quite generous for 324 yen and cheap. I devoured it all by myself, but it was quite sweet. They had various original products for Christmas, and I was interested in the "Soft Beef Tongue Stew," but it seems it's already sold out through reservations. The prices are low, so I might end up buying a variety of things in the future.

Chain tofu shop, third generation Shigekura. You sometimes see them in local shopping streets, right? I like this place because it's cheap and they sell a lot of unique items (^ー^) This is a branch located in the PALM shopping street in Musashi-Koyama. They have a variety of tofu, soy products, dried goods, and Japanese sweets. Their original products are just as cheap as buying them in a regular supermarket. This time, I bought "Peeled Edamame Pickles" and "Extreme Sweet Oboro Tofu". I don't remember the exact price, but I think both were in the low 100 yen range. I recommend the "Peeled Edamame Pickles" because I bought it before at another branch and liked it. It contains a lot of edamame without the pods and has a delicious taste with a hint of kelp broth. As for the "Extreme Sweet Oboro Tofu", it was the most popular at the tasting event, but I probably won't buy it again. It's a tasty tofu with a strong soy milk flavor, but it's unnaturally sweet (even though it's within the range of tofu as a dessert). When I saw that sugar was used in the ingredients, it made sense why it was so sweet. Despite that, I still like this shop, so I might buy it again when I come back to this shopping street (^-^)/

I bought tofu and shigemaki (deep-fried tofu roll) while passing by the street. The shigemaki had a savory deep-fried filling inside. The rice was a 16-grain rice which seemed good for the body. It was a very cost-effective store with 8 pieces of shigemaki for only 198 yen. The tofu was also around 100 yen, and the bento box was around 300 yen.

At the Palm Shopping Street in Musashi-Koyama, there is a popular tofu-centered deli run by the third-generation Shigekura-san. The store is always bustling with customers. On this particular day, they had bento boxes displayed outside. I decided to try the Authentic Kaiseki Bento for 780 yen. Despite the price, I didn't have high expectations. However, when I opened it at home, I was pleasantly surprised. The bento had a variety of items like seasoned dishes, shrimp lotus root, stuffed tofu dumplings, beef tongue meatballs, mashed taro, and hiryu head (a type of fish cake). It even had chestnut rice topped with chestnuts. The flavors were just right, not too sweet, and very delicious. It would be perfect to enjoy this bento on a sunny day for a park picnic.

Mixed grain rice in vinegar rice! The omelette was fluffy with eggs and soy milk, and there were plenty of ingredients for a great value!
