This month, I made a bento lunch for my partner when they had errands in Shinjuku. There was a temporary store at Odakyu Department Store Shinjuku offering dishes like omurice, Napolitan, and hamburger - all of which are my favorite Western dishes. They had individual items as well as combination bento boxes. My partner chose the "Yokubari Mori" bento box which included Napolitan, omurice, and hamburger. I decided to go with the "Futoro Omurice" which had demi-glace sauce. Both dishes were delicious and I warmed them up in the microwave before eating. The demi-glace sauce was plentiful and tasty. The omurice was not the rolled type, but had a thick layer of egg on top, cooked perfectly with a nice creamy texture. The rice inside had a tomato-based ketchup flavor, with visible onions and a flavorful taste. The bento also came with red pickles. I also tried a bit of my partner's Napolitan and hamburger from the "Yokubari" bento box. The Napolitan had thick noodles with plenty of ketchup, and the hamburger was juicy and flavorful. We found out that we could get a 10% discount on our next visit if we brought back the wrapping paper. Overall, it was a satisfying meal and I hope to visit Shinjuku again soon.

I purchased a bento box with two Western-style dishes for 1080 yen. Although I was tempted by dishes like hamburger, I chose a combination of Napolitan pasta and omurice because it looked visually appealing and delicious. The omurice had a thick layer of egg wrapped around the rice with a white sauce on top. The egg was cooked quite well, not runny, and the rice had a subtle ketchup flavor. The Napolitan pasta had thick noodles that required some chewing but were easy to eat. The noodles were soft and the grilled chicken on the side had a spicy flavor from the pepper seasoning. The spiciness paired well with the sweetness of the Napolitan pasta. It was a satisfying bento box with a double dose of carbohydrates that left me full and content.

This is a bento shop located on the basement floor of Matsuya Asakusa store. I came here on my day off because I had some errands in Asakusa and was asked to pick up lunch for home. I was debating between buying a bento or some side dishes when I noticed this shop. There were several types of bentos with slightly different contents, but I decided to buy the recommended combination of Napolitan, Omelette Rice, and Beef Stew. The omelette was fluffy and the beef in the stew was well-cooked and very tender. It was a taste of a famous restaurant.

From Asakusa Station, I took the Tobu Limited Express to Kinugawa Onsen. First, I bought a bento box at Asakusa Matsuya, which is directly connected to the station. I bought both an expensive and a cheap one to split in half. I went for the Western-style bento at Komatsutei, which is quite reasonable at ¥540 for the daily special. It looked quite delicious, with the kitchen visible from the store where they make omelettes (even though it's probably pre-made). I enjoyed it on the train with a Tokyo Highball. The bento had omelette, hamburger, fried chicken, and spaghetti - a classic Western-style meal at a great price! As I left the station, I could see a bit of cherry blossoms along the Sumida River from the train window.

In the basement food court of Tamaplaza Tokyu Department Store, there are three types of omurice sauce available, with demi-glace being the most recommended, followed by ketchup and white sauce. All of them were delicious, so you can't go wrong with any choice based on personal preference.

After work, I had some errands to run in Asakusa so I stopped by Matsuya on the way. I noticed that Komatsutei's bento boxes and side dishes were half price! Well, that's to be expected. It's almost closing time, after all. This time, instead of a bento box, I bought two packs of demi-glace simmered beef tongue. Each pack seemed to have 200g of beef tongue. There was quite a generous amount of beef tongue in each pack. The pieces were on the smaller side, maybe from the front part of the tongue. There were tender parts and some tougher parts. The tender parts were delicious, almost melting in your mouth. The demi-glace sauce was really tasty. I thought later that I should have just poured it over rice to make a beef tongue bowl.

Omurice is delicious, but my favorite is the fluffy omelette & Napolitan with a forcefully added mackerel bento.

*About this restaurant! This is a long-established Western-style restaurant located in Asakusa, Tokyo. They were selling their dishes in a small space towards the back of the venue. There were dedicated fans, as an elderly couple who arrived before us always came to buy something. We also chose various dishes and each bought one for dinner. *Today's takeout & Sweet and Spicy Comments! - Greedy Mix A (tax included 1296 yen) Hamburger, Omelette Rice, Napolitan. - Greedy Mix B (tax included 1188 yen) Chicken, Omelette Rice, Napolitan. Napolitan uses thick noodles with a chewy texture and a rich tomato sauce flavor, which is delicious. Both mixes have Omelette Rice, but Mix A has Demi-glace sauce while Mix B has Cream sauce. The rice inside has a light ketchup flavor. The main difference is in the Hamburger and Chicken Saute, with the Hamburger lacking juiciness due to finely ground meat. The Chicken, made with chicken breast meat, was decent. We ate them after warming up the cold dishes, but we would prefer to eat them hot and fresh from the restaurant.

The family souvenir was bought at a weekly corner in Hankyu Underground, it seems to be a shop in Asakusa. When it comes to Asakusa, as someone unfamiliar with Tokyo, I imagine places like Kaminarimon, theaters, similar to Osaka's Sennichimae or Dotonbori. In Asakusa, when it comes to Western food, it brings back memories of Showa era flavors. This time, I tried the omurice and Napolitan. The omurice had a creamy egg with demi-glace sauce, as expected. However, the creamy egg reminded me more of the Heisei era (I recall thin omelets with ketchup in the Showa era). The Napolitan had thick noodles, which made sense as it's from a bento shop. It felt a bit nostalgic yet modern and delicious.

I tried out the food at a special event held at the Kintetsu Department Store Abeno Harukas Main Store. There were various Western-style dishes lined up, packed tightly in containers, which really whetted my appetite. I decided to purchase the "All-You-Can-Eat Plate for 1458 yen, including Omelette Rice, Napolitan, and Cheese-in-Hamburger". There was also a Cheese-in-Hamburger with beef tongue stew, but I was drawn to the volume of the regular hamburger. I took it home to enjoy. It was quite heavy. When I plated it with some salad, it looked like a substantial meal. I didn't want to create more dishes to wash, so I didn't use separate plates (haha). Each dish had a consistently good taste, but the combination of cheese and hamburger was definitely a winner. It would have been nice to enjoy it with a glass of wine, but that's not really my style, so I had it with a sugar-free beer instead. I'd like to try the beef tongue stew next time. Since this was a special event, I won't give it a rating. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Roast chicken, cheese-filled hamburger, and beef stew with rice were all delicious and generously portioned. The microwave sparked when heating the roast chicken because I forgot to remove the aluminum handle. The cheese-filled hamburger was a hit with plenty of cheese. The beef stew was tender and flavorful. Overall, a satisfying meal for 1080 yen.

The lunch portion was surprisingly large, so for dinner I went with the indulgent mixed bento box from Komatsutei. It includes omurice, Napolitan spaghetti, and a choice of hamburger or chicken sauté. Each item was packed in the bento box and it was quite heavy. It looks lovely, with a retro Western feel. The one with the hamburger has a generous amount of demi-glace sauce, and the hamburger itself is juicy and delicious. The texture of the egg in the omurice is unique and interesting. It might have been microwaved for too long, not sure, but when you eat it with the tasty demi-glace sauce, it's amazing. The Napolitan spaghetti is made with slightly thicker noodles and lots of ketchup, making it a classic Napolitan dish. It's even more Napolitan than I expected. The one with the chicken sauté has a bit less demi-glace sauce, but it's still enough for the omurice. The chicken sauté is delicious, with a wonderful rosemary or herb aroma and a crispy surface. It's nice to have chicken on Christmas Eve, even if it's a small portion. I enjoyed it very much. Thank you for the meal. It was quite filling though, so I couldn't manage dessert...maybe just a pudding would be okay for Christmas Eve.

I bought 3 pieces of Soft Beef Tongue in Demi Glace Sauce, 3 pieces of Cheese-in-Hamburg (with Demi Glace Sauce), 2 pieces of Chewy Napolitan (half size), and 1 piece of Fluffy Omelette Rice with Demi Glace Sauce from Komatsutei for a total of 3240 yen. The Soft Beef Tongue in Demi Glace Sauce was delicious with tender beef tongue. The Cheese-in-Hamburg was average, and the Napolitan was tasty with chewy noodles. In terms of value for money, the Soft Beef Tongue in Demi Glace Sauce left the best impression despite the Cheese-in-Hamburg being the most expensive.

This is a shop in the basement of Asakusa Matsuya. When I passed by after 7pm, there was a sale where you could get 3 packs for 1,080 yen, so I decided to stop by. I couldn't decide which ones to get, but I ended up choosing a chicken leg, two cheese-in hamburg steaks, and beef tongue. The chicken leg was soft and cooked well. The beef tongue came in a pack of two and was seasoned with sauce. It was a good deal with the sale.

I bought the "Yokushoku Komatsutei" Hamburg Steak Set for 1200 yen at the JR Kyoto Isetan store. It includes a Hamburg steak, an omelette rice, and spaghetti, creating a harmonious blend of Western dishes. The taste was delicious and satisfying. As a fan of JR Kyoto Isetan, I feel reassured knowing that only carefully selected shops are allowed to open in the basement area.

I bought a set of Napolitan and hamburger, as well as a set of omurice, from a shop located in the basement of Entetsu Department Store in Hamamatsu, and brought them home for takeout. Even though it wasn't freshly made, I have no complaints about the taste. The thick noodles in the Napolitan were a bit of a challenge for me, but they were chewy and delicious. The hamburger lacked originality, but it was still tasty. Thank you for the meal.
