I went to a Western confectionery shop on the opposite side of the Koshu Highway, but most of the products were already sold out (I had a feeling that would be the case). Since I came all the way here, I decided to stop by SundayBAKE on the way. I was surprised. I actually know this area very well. My aunt used to live in Honcho, so I had been coming here occasionally for nearly 30 years until about 7 years ago. During those 30 years, there were almost no cake shops in this neighborhood. There was only one bakery quite a bit further ahead. The only famous confectionery shop was Kogaonin. The appearance of SundayBAKE was unthinkable. So, between the Koshu Highway and the Mizukido Road, there are now two Western confectionery shops! Even the eateries have a somewhat stylish feel to them. Is Nishihara area also here? The wave of the Nishihara area has reached the opposite side of the Koshu Highway. Gâteau Chocolat 650 yen: "A classic gâteau chocolat with rich chocolate cream, whipped cream, and strawberries on top." The cream is as thick as a fondant chocolat. The gâteau chocolat part is light, so this cream is essential. Among all the items, this is the most ordinary and within an acceptable range. Cheesecake 550 yen: It seems to have a moderate acidity and not too sweet, but it feels somewhat lacking. Fruit Roll 600 yen: It is not very thick, but it is huge. You can guess the size from the banana. The génoise is light. It has a softness that melts immediately. There is almost no taste or aroma. It feels like the eggs are waving at the end of the world. Hey, maybe that egg is an illusion. Hey. The cream also has no taste. It's not vanilla, nor does it have a milky taste. The proportion of apples, kiwi, and strawberries is low, and for some reason, sweetness is added with a syrup-like substance on the outer edge. Savarin 650 yen: I bought a savarin, but what is this? "Walnuts on top, raisins (regular and currants-like) and candied orange peel under the cream, and of course, brioche at the bottom." Looking at it this way, it feels like they went overboard. The decisive factor is the saltiness of the brioche that surpasses the sweetness of the syrup! The syrup is not rum or Cointreau, I thought it might be Cointreau because of the oranges, but it's different. It's a syrup with a light sweetness that I have never tasted before. There is almost zero of my favorite liqueur taste. Due to the saltiness and the subtle cream, it even gives off a cheese-like vibe. What is this? When you eat it, please let me know your thoughts, even if it's just your personal opinion. Unfortunately, I couldn't finish it. When I entered, there was no one there, but when I looked back after paying, there was a long line behind me. Is it a popular shop? Looking at the reviews on Tabelog, the evaluations are split in half. I wonder if it depends on what you choose? Like that huge cream puff? The prices are not cheap either. Well, there are various things. I learned a lot. I wonder where the writer learned all this from.
