Every 3 months, I go to Higashi-Nakano for dental maintenance, and I happened to visit Summit's in-store bakery "Dan Brown" which turned out to be surprisingly good. Despite being in fierce competition with other reviewers in Nakano Ward, this particular bakery has not been reviewed yet. So, here comes the forbidden second review for Nakano Ward. Dan Brown first opened as Summit's in-store bakery in October 1992 at the Mizue store. I'm not sure how many stores they have now, but there were 37 entries on Tabelog alone. It seems that before the Summit's renovation, there was a Little Mermaid store, but now their own brand bakery is there. To get there from the station, exit from the west side of JR Sobu Line Higashi-Nakano Station, turn right at the rotary, then turn right onto Yamanote Street and it will be on your right after about 50 meters. For the Toei Oedo Line, the A1 exit is convenient. The bakery is located at the back left corner of the store, behind the rest area. Even though it was before 6 pm, I heard a voice saying, "Freshly baked ○○!" The supermarket is open until 25:00, so you can enjoy freshly baked items even in the evening. It's self-service, but bagged bread goes directly into the supermarket basket. For unwrapped bread, use paper trays or plastic bags with tongs. Please return the tongs to the return slot. The pizza is baked in an electric Naples pizza stone oven. Upon researching, I found out that it was a collaboration with Akina Makishima, who was named the world's best Naples pizza craftsman in 2010. *Prices are shown excluding tax. The diameter of the plate used for photography is 16 cm. ● Pizza (Pepperoni & Sausage 1/2) ¥305 I reheated it in the microwave when I got home drunk, so the dough became moist, but it was thin yet chewy! ● Dan Brown Loaf Bread 6 slices, half a pound ¥139 There were different types of bread such as Dan Brown loaf bread, hotel bread, and English bread. There are also raisin bread, roll bread, petit French bread, fluffy meal bread, and many other types of meal bread. I'm glad they sell it in half a pound. It's moist and chewy, with a soft crust. It has a slight salty and sweet taste, but it's a basic simple bread. It uses Hakata salt for saltiness, brown sugar for sweetness, and no yeast food or emulsifiers. ● Spicy Curry Bread ¥160 There were some uneven frying spots on the front and back, but it was fried crispy and fragrant. It's a spicy curry made from a blend of 26 spices, but it's probably okay even for children in terms of spiciness. The spiciness was good! The bread kneaded with turmeric was fluffy too. ● Three Cheese French Bread ¥120 It felt light when I held it, and considering the price, I thought it was only cheese and toppings, and that was correct. The crumb was moist, so it could be used for sandwiches due to its size! ● Chicken Cutlet Coppe Bread ¥100 The chicken cutlet is made with chicken breast meat from the meat section in the store. The sauce poured on it is sweet and child-friendly. The coppe bread is fluffy. If I had a sweet tooth, I would have bought the huge ¥100 Danish bread! I was also interested in the fluffy meal bread for ¥200 and the small shrimp bisque pot for ¥180! But I had already bought three breads from a different bakery, so I had to give up. I hope to visit again in July (^-^) The variety of bread is extensive, and the prices are perfect for everyday use. There is a rest area behind the bakery with a microwave, free water, and tea, making it suitable for a quick lunch when you're short on time. (Maybe you can even have a 0th meeting with beer? LOL)
