After a long time, I visited Gold Rush again. The first time I went to Gold Rush was over 30 years ago, near the Shibuya Studio on TV. It was a popular spot for celebrities, and I remember seeing Masashi Tashiro, who was at the peak of his career, eating there. The whole area has been redeveloped now and there's no trace left. They still have the popular 1-pound hamburger and ladies' set that has been around since those days. The menu is surprisingly extensive with different types of hamburgers and combinations that were unimaginable back then. I ordered the 1-pound Shibuya Dome Hamburger Special @2200, which was a unique special menu. It weighed 450g. I wish it was more, but it had 4 types of hamburgers on top, so I was excited. The hamburgers were well-cooked and all delicious, with the cheese-baked tomato being my favorite. The garlic sauce had a strong punch. Having tasted various delicious hamburgers before, I must admit that the meat flavor at Gold Rush is not as good as others. However, the unique combination with the sauce is unmatched by other top restaurants. The taste has lingered on my palate. It's my soul food hamburger.

Today, I didn't wait until the last minute to eat, but I just didn't have the energy to search for a restaurant! So, I decided to go to the Shinjuku Higashi-guchi branch for some hearty meat, a hamburger, and a gold rush! Luckily, on Tuesdays they offer a 1-pound special, so I got a half-and-half of plain and cheese for 1 pound. The performance of the staff pouring plenty of sauce right in front of you, the sound and aroma of the sauce sizzling on the hot plate, instantly boosts your mood! The unique taste with lots of spices and lean meat may feel a bit strange at first, but it becomes addictive. The side dishes of potatoes, green beans, peas, and carrots are also delicious when eaten with the sauce. The quality and service never disappoint, as expected. For me, this is my soul food from my student days of hanging out in Shinjuku and Shibuya. If given the chance, I unconsciously find myself drawn to this restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I went on a Tuesday, so the 1-pound hamburger (450g) was discounted (around 1,450 yen), making it a good deal. I ordered it and found both the hamburger and the side dishes to be delicious. It was also nice that rice and a drink were complimentary. I would definitely like to visit this restaurant again.

Visited on Pound Day, which is on Tuesday. I find eating just hamburgers can get boring, so on Pound Day I order bread instead of rice. I sandwich a cheeseburger between the bread to make a cheeseburger and then enjoy another round with just the hamburger. Even though the price has gone up, at around 1500 yen for a 1-pound burger, it's still relatively cheap.

The West & East Hamburg Steak (150g) for 1240 yen is a great deal with a generous portion. You can enjoy both Japanese and Western flavors, with the Western option even including cheese. The side vegetables like potatoes, green beans, corn, carrots, and green peas are also included. Unfortunately, I didn't quite like the taste of the hamburger steak itself. The seating was very dark, making it hard to see the food clearly.

On Friday, I had a meal that consisted of four 1-pound hamburgers, each costing 1280 yen, with a fried egg topping for an additional 100 yen, totaling 1380 yen. The hamburgers were served with green beans, mixed vegetables, and whole potatoes. I chose the rice set, which also came with a complimentary drink.

After many years, I went to Gold Rush to watch a movie in Shinjuku. Usually, there is always a line of people from the stairs to the street at Gold Rush. And it was scorching outside... I thought it would be impossible, but as I walked by, there was no one there! I couldn't believe how empty Shinjuku was on a weekday. I boldly entered without waiting in line for the first time in my life. The juicy hamburger I ate in the chilly restaurant was amazing! Having all cheese was a bit too much, so next time I'll try a different menu. It was delicious! 😊

I went aiming for the 1-pound hamburger on Friday. I arrived around 12:30 and there were only about 4 people waiting, so lucky! There were many solo diners that day. I sat at a 4-person table alone. Behind me, there was a group of 3 waiting. The unique gravy sauce was incredibly delicious! When I finished eating and went outside, the line went all the way up the stairs. The line was crazy long! The restaurant is smaller than in Shibuya, but it's close to the station! The staff hands out menus to people waiting in line on the stairs to take orders, so the food comes out quickly! It's delicious, I felt a mix of tears and emotions in Shibuya, but this place is a gold rush! You can have seconds. The hamburg steak is meaty with no vegetables or breadcrumbs in the mix. If you haven't been, you should definitely go at least once! I recommend having it with the normal sauce. If you're with a woman, the ladies' set with salad and dessert is recommended. Even if you want to eat a pound, you can be satisfied at a reasonable price.
