I love the knives from "Yuji" at the Nishiki Market and have been using about four of them as my own knives. After over 10 years, I noticed that they were starting to warp, so I finally took two of them to be sharpened! It took about a month, but I finally got them back! On my way back from picking them up, I stopped by Takashimaya and decided to purchase something I had seen in the media and magazines. This time, I bought:
- Goshoun Tsuki Furikake (for home use) 1080 yen
* The same item in a paulownia box for gifts is 1350 yen
I tried the furikake at home during dinner. It contains finely shredded kombu, bonito, sesame, and nori. At first, I thought it was "sweet!" but as I kept eating, the spiciness and umami came through. However, it tasted like MSG (laughs). It seems that the strong umami flavor comes from the high-quality kombu used by the store. My mother said that compared to the furikake I make at home using premium kombu and bonito dashi, it's not that different. Overall, the ingredients and taste are delicious, but it's a bit pricey. However, the umami flavor is excellent and addicting. Since it's made with natural ingredients, it would be a good gift for elderly people who have trouble finishing their meals!

Today, I bought a rice accompaniment as a souvenir from Kyoto. The low-salt cut dried kelp is delicious on its own or placed on warm rice. Adding a raw egg makes it even tastier. Kyoto's specialty products are all healthy ingredients.
