A French bistro with a relaxed atmosphere suitable for its name. I remember a cozy bistro in Nishi-Azabu where I used to secretly treat myself to lunch alone when I was younger. The calm atmosphere inside the restaurant is perfect for enjoying the chef's dishes and choosing wine à la carte while engaging in friendly conversations with the sommelier. I can bring anyone here and they will be satisfied, making it one of the "go-to local restaurants" for me. (It's not a teppanyaki restaurant, haha)

Corn season has arrived, so young corn is nearing the end of its peak season, but I enjoyed the crunchy texture. I tried girolle mushrooms for the first time, and they have a fragrant taste of the forest. The main dish had a rich and intense flavor that was very delicious, but it seems the price is quite high so I may not be able to order it every time. The octopus was tender and juicy, and when eaten with mushrooms, it goes well with wine. The duck galantine with beets was quite delicious. It looks cute and has a refreshing taste, so you can eat it up quickly. The veal loin with mushroom sauce was also delicious. Veal only consumes milk, so the meat is white and surprisingly tender and milky, making it tasty with the mushroom sauce.

As usual, we started with a sparkling toast. The tomato sablé is bite-sized, with a strong tomato flavor and a crispy texture. The saltiness of the salami on top enhances the taste of the alcohol. The chicory salad, which I couldn't try last time, has a perfect balance of bitterness, saltiness, sweetness, and acidity with the dressing, bacon, and crispy bread. The orange wine recommended this time was a unique choice but paired well with the dishes. The foie gras with mountain vegetables was served cold, and the foie gras flavor was rich and delicious. The warm red wine and white wine served with it were both excellent, but I preferred the white wine for its lightness. The fried young ayu, which I couldn't try last time, was flavorful and had a good amount of volume. The white asparagus from Germany was slightly bitter at the bottom and sweet at the top, making it enjoyable to eat. The 130g white asparagus was the largest I've had, and it was juicy and delicious. The foie gras sauté with black fig and red wine sauce was a classic dish that lived up to expectations. The foie gras melted in the mouth, complemented by the sweetness of the fig and the orange peel's citrusy freshness. The dessert was a vanilla ice cream with caramel and milk tea, with a sweet vanilla flavor and a slightly bitter caramel taste. For those who prefer a refreshing finish, the sorbet is recommended, and for those who can eat more, the chocolate cake is a good choice, but it takes about 20 minutes to bake, so order early.

For the past 25 years, this restaurant has been run by the chef and his wife. Despite not living nearby, I have been a loyal customer since the opening. The food is always delicious, using fresh seasonal ingredients, and the wife always pairs the perfect wine with my meal. They remember my preferences, recommend dishes, and inform me of the prices. The dishes I had this time were Salmon Confit, Chicory Salad, White Asparagus, Steak Hache, Veal Cutlet, and Matcha Basque Cheesecake with Rice Ice Cream. Each dish was flavorful and well-prepared.

In the corner around the Bistro Bonheur in Hachioji City, Tokyo, there is a stylish atmosphere. Even though it was raining, the inside of the restaurant was almost full of customers. Many wine lovers were enjoying drinks from lunchtime. It's a shame that I can't drink alcohol... Each dish is elegant, beautiful, and delicious! I would like to come for dinner next time.

I visited Bistro Bon Coeur for lunch after a long time, as my wine-loving friends and I usually only go for dinner. We ordered the set menu from the handwritten board outside, which included an appetizer and main course for 3150 yen. I chose the pate de campagne for the appetizer, roasted Yamagata pork for the main, and coffee with dessert cheese for after the meal. I also ordered a medium-bodied glass of wine for around 1000 yen. The menu lacked variety as there were similar options like rillettes and pate, and the wine selection was vague with prices ranging from 1000 to 1700 yen per glass. The service was lacking in explanations and attention to detail, but the bread was good and they offered refills. The pate de campagne was served with pickles and green salad, but compared to other bistros, it was not very satisfying. The main course of Yamagata pork roast was paired with Romanesque and mushroom sides, and the Shiraz blend red wine went well with it. Despite some positives like dessert options and coffee refills, the lack of clarity in pricing and communication left me feeling unsure about the overall experience. The total bill came to 5386 yen, which seemed high considering the issues I encountered during the meal. I hope that Bistro Bon Coeur can improve in areas such as menu transparency and customer communication, following the example of other bistros like Bistro de Trois.

The "Two-Plate Lunch" menu consisted of a starter of creamy celery cream with Three Rikuzen oysters, a main course of grilled saury, and a dessert of panna cotta with chestnut blancmange. The reviewer noted that the oysters were delicious with the creamy sauce, and also mentioned ordering canelé the day before as a takeout, which was crispy and delicious. The lunch menu offered a choice of starters (including country-style pate and octopus with olives), main courses (such as fish of the day and braised beef cheek), and a choice of dessert or cheese, with coffee or tea as a drink option.

During the September long weekend, I gathered with my friends to celebrate a wedding. We left the choice of restaurant to our senior. Back in my student days, I was in Hachioji and didn't have much money, so I never had the chance to visit such a nice restaurant. As we climbed the stairs, we found several table seats. Due to the pandemic, there were vinyl curtains separating the tables. I really wanted to have wine, but my friends either couldn't drink alcohol or were on a break, so we all ordered something called "grape liquid" which seemed like a red wine alternative. It came with some delicious rillettes to eat with bread. For the three-dish lunch, I couldn't decide on the appetizer, but my partner chose a dish with octopus while I went for the Red Fuji salmon. It was served on a pie crust with a hint of dill, refreshing yet with a touch of richness. The fish dish was a grilled sea bass with a curry-like spice, probably shrimp sauce, and a hint of anise foam. The skin was crispy, and the flesh was tender and moist. The meat dish was a tender Eisbein with sauerkraut, I think. It was soft, perfectly salty, and disappeared quickly. For dessert, there was a Mont Blanc made with chestnuts from Hachioji, which cost extra but was worth it. I used to live near a chestnut orchard back in my student days, so I know Hachioji chestnuts are delicious. I didn't hesitate to choose the Mont Blanc. The tea options were Assam for black tea and milk tea. I was debating whether to add sugar when the lady offered to bring some. She must have noticed my sweet tooth (^◇^;). It made me a little happy. The chestnuts were soft and delicious. The Assam milk tea paired perfectly with the Mont Blanc. It was a nice time with friends I hadn't seen in a while. We ended up staying longer than expected, but the warm smile and hospitality of the lady were the best treat of all. I wish the restaurant was closer so I could visit again. I'm curious about their dinner menu and different seasonal dishes.

Cold dish: Red Fuji salmon, potatoes, served with focaccia
Warm dish: Grilled anago (conger eel), served with polenta
Main dish: Veal and Rokko mushrooms
Grilled anago is often steamed before being grilled in many restaurants, but this one was not steamed, which provided a unique texture that I enjoyed. Rokko mushrooms can be eaten raw, which was a first for me, but they were delicious.

Visited in March 2020. Just a few minutes' walk from JR Chuo Line Hachioji Station, this bistro is located near Hachioji Onsen Yasuragi no Yu. I visited on a Sunday afternoon. The menu offers options for 2 dishes, 3 dishes, or chef's choice courses. This time, I ordered the 3-dish course for 3,150 yen. The course includes appetizer, fish, meat, bread, dessert, post-meal drink, and complimentary baked goods. You can choose from several options for the appetizer and main dish. I chose... thinly sliced flavorful raw mushrooms with diced pancetta. It's a simple dish, but the aroma is delightful and pairs well with alcohol. The bread is small and has a good texture. When topped with liver paste, it's also a great match for drinks. The fish cooked at low temperature is half-sized, crispy on the outside and moist inside. The pork confit resembles roast pork with a pink color and a refreshing fat content. It's slightly salty. Overall, the bistro-style dishes have a strong salty flavor. It may feel a bit lacking for those who prefer hearty meals. The garnishes made from local ingredients lack color, which is a slight downside. The sparkling wine for throat-clearing at 950 yen and rich grape juice are highlights. The dessert of dry fruit cake has a memorable bitterness that stands out. The coffee service is also excellent. The use of star anise in the sauce and other unique elements add to the enjoyment. The detailed and clear explanations of the dishes are enjoyable. This is a place I would like to visit again!

It was delicious. The interior of the restaurant was stylish as shown in the photos and I really liked it. I will definitely visit again. The two-plate lunch was 2,380 yen (including tax) and was great value for money.

It was delicious. The pork was especially tasty. It was really good because my mother, who can't eat beef, was with me. I want to go again.
