"Special Wonton Noodle in Salt Broth for 1250 yen. Near the base of Skytree, there is a ramen shop that focuses on wontons called "Menya Kinoshita." The name comes from the fact that it is located right below Tokyo Skytree. The shop is just a few minutes' walk from Oshiage Station. It's a bit hidden from the main street, so you might not notice it if you're just walking by. The shop's name reflects the straightforwardness, which I like. The area around Skytree, including Solamachi, seems to be self-contained, so you don't see many tourists wandering around. Most people probably head straight to Asakusa if they're going elsewhere. I arrived at the shop around 11:30 on a holiday. When I entered, there were only two other customers. I thought it might be a bit empty, but soon after, about seven more customers came in, and it became quite busy. In addition to the L-shaped counter seats, there are also tables for four, so families can dine here too. I quickly decided on the 'Special Wonton Noodle in Salt Broth,' purchased the meal ticket, and took my seat. Oh, and water is self-service. After about a 5-minute wait, my order arrived promptly. Let's dig in!
[Soup] The base flavor is mainly chicken broth, with a distinctive aftertaste of shiitake mushrooms. The saltiness is mild yet well-balanced, with a light but rich taste. It's a clear broth with a hint of depth from the shiitake mushrooms. Delicious! But it doesn't end there! Adding the 'Mushroom Marinade' midway through enhances the umami and richness, transforming the flavor into a Western-style broth. Personally, I might prefer the taste after this change! It's great!
[Noodles] The slightly high-hydration, whole wheat thin noodles are smooth and have a good bite. They are light, without any strong flavors, and pair well with the soup. The balance and texture are spot on.
[Toppings] The pork consists of pork belly, pork shoulder loin, and chicken breast. The pork belly is lightly seared, flavorful, and aromatic. The chicken breast is tender and light, a modern classic finish. The loin is also tender and flavorful, a well-prepared topping. The seasoned egg is halved but perfectly runny, with a nice balance of sweetness. And the highlight, the wontons, are packed with filling! The meat wonton is like a mini hamburger, and the shrimp wonton is delightfully bouncy with a hint of seaweed flavor. Both were delicious! If you visit, be sure to try the wontons. Overall, the soup, noodles, and wontons were all of high quality, with a well-balanced combination. Ramen enthusiasts should definitely consider making the short trip from Skytree for this worthwhile experience! ==========="
