At night, I went to Steak House 91 (Nine Ace) in Kabukicho, Shinjuku. It opened in 2022 and is located near the Furinkan Hall in Kabukicho. The operating hours are fluid, currently starting at 9:00 PM, which is the standard operating hours in Kabukicho. The restaurant is small, with two 2-seater tables by the window on the right side, a 5-seat counter facing the wall on the left side, totaling 9 seats. Depending on the timing, it can get crowded, but tonight, there were no customers before and 3 customers after 9:00 PM. Kabukicho is an area with many izakayas, clubs, red-light districts, and hotels, each with its own unique atmosphere. The location and concept of the restaurant seem to have been well researched. Orders are placed using a touch panel ticket machine. Due to rising prices, the prices for meat dishes have been increased, but the prices on the storefront and flyers have not been updated yet. Here are the menu items:
- 91 Cut Steak: 150g for 1,580 yen, 210g for 1,980 yen, 300g for 2,880 yen, 400g for 3,680 yen.
- Hamburg: Golden Coarse-ground Hamburg 1,580 yen, Golden Coarse-ground Cheese Hamburg 1,780 yen.
- Ribeye Cut Steak: 200g for 2,880 yen, 300g for 4,080 yen, 400g for 5,280 yen.
- Combo: 91 Cut Steak & Golden Coarse-ground Hamburg 2,380 yen.
- Chicken Steak: 250g for 1,080 yen, 350g for 1,380 yen.
- Rice & Soup 200 yen, Salad, Rice & Soup 350 yen, Rice refill 250 yen.
- Side Menu: Broccoli 500 yen, French Fries 500 yen, Nuggets 500 yen, Cucumber Tataki 400 yen.
- Toppings: Sliced Cheese 200 yen, Chorizo (1 piece) 200 yen, Garlic Chips 150 yen, Pineapple (2 slices) 150 yen, Fried Egg 150 yen.
- Drinks: Cola 300 yen, Ginger Ale 300 yen, Orange Juice 300 yen, Mineral Water 300 yen. Highball 500 yen, Beer 500 yen.
On the table, there are sauces, pepper, yuzu pepper, and grated garlic. Soy sauce and rock salt are available upon request. I ordered a beer for 500 yen. Tonight, I had a solo "job well done" gathering in Kabukicho. It's convenient to be able to buy canned beer from the liquor store across the street if they run out of stock. I prefer canned beer over draft beer because I tend to drink too much draft beer. I confirmed that there were no appetizers, so I ordered the Cucumber Tataki for 400 yen. It was delicious with a spicy oil-like sauce poured generously over it. I then had the Rice & Soup for 200 yen, which was a beef consomme soup. I usually expect the steak to be served after finishing the soup. If anyone knows the proper way to enjoy the soup, please let me know with the source. Shortly after, the 91 Cut Steak & Golden Coarse-ground Hamburg for 2,380 yen arrived. The steak was cut into pieces, which suited my preference. It was cooked medium rare, allowing for different textures at the beginning and end. If you prefer a consistent texture, you can reheat it on the heating plate provided on the top left of the teppan. The steak is made from 90g of Ichibo cut into 4 pieces and a 220g hamburger. I enjoyed eating it as is, pouring sauce on it, or even placing it on top of the rice. The meat and rice balanced well, making it very delicious. The sauce is slightly sweet, so those who prefer spiciness may want to add some. Overall, the food was so delicious that I didn't feel the need to add any condiments. I don't eat hamburgers often, but this one was so tasty that I wanted more. The juiciness of the meat indicates its quality, as it doesn't drip excessively. The broccoli and potato salad sides were unique, with the broccoli lightly boiled and kept warm on the teppan. Having potato salad as a side is uncommon, but it added a nice touch.
