I have always loved this eel restaurant. Among the many long-established eel restaurants in Ueno, this one offers reasonably priced, fluffy eel. It is farmed eel, but the quality is top-notch. Recently, the store has been renovated and now only occupies the second floor, making it a bit difficult for elderly customers to enter. However, it has become a hidden gem where regulars can relax and enjoy their time. It's also great for lunchtime drinks. Today, I just made it in time for lunch. The rice is also delicious. If you're in the area, be sure to stop by. I wonder if they have an elevator?

I visited for lunch on Saturday. I arrived right when they opened. I ordered the lunch special (top quality). For an additional 150 yen, you can change it to liver sashimi, but the miso soup was enough for me. After taking a bite, I thought "yes, this is it". The ribs are deboned, making it easy to eat, and the grilling is perfect. I want to come back many times.

Chimachima visit. The lunch special bowl was sold out, so I ordered from the default menu. - Eel Bowl (3,000 yen including tax) The eel on this day is from Aichi Prefecture. The eel sauce at Toh-Tei is not too salty or too sweet, and the portion is relatively moderate, which is just right for me. A domestic eel with this volume for 3,000 yen is a good deal! - Liver Sucking (150 yen including tax) By the way, I occasionally have lunch at this restaurant, and I noticed while looking at the menu that the lunch is described as "using a large and thick special eel, a special lunch from an eel wholesaler." This time I ordered from the default menu and couldn't really tell the difference from the lunch. What does "large and thick" mean for lunch??? Could it be that the foreign staff misunderstood the meaning of "large and thick"? (laughs)

I had eel to boost my energy on a hot day. The restaurant is located about a 2-minute walk from Naka-Okachimachi Station, and it's clear that they cater to foreign customers with many English menu options. The eel was steamed, resulting in tender and thick pieces. The lunch specials were sold out by noon, so it's best to go early if you want a good deal.

I came to eat here for the first time since they moved. It was lunchtime, and I had to wait for 20 minutes to get in. I couldn't decide between having a bowl or a set meal, so I got the regular and special bowl for lunch. As always, the food was delicious and satisfying. You can add liver for 150 yen, but the soup was enough for me. I was disappointed when the restaurant closed last year, but I was so happy to hear they moved to the second floor next door. I will definitely come back to eat here again.

Weekly eel restaurant tour 43rd week. This week, I had lunch (large) at Tochou in Okachimachi. It's a strong ally when funds are low, but it was raised by 100 yen to 2,000 yen (laughs). The eel itself was tender and the skin was soft, with a texture that felt the fibers melting away. However, this time the skin was difficult to cut with chopsticks. The sauce had a good balance and was to my liking. The amount of rice was generous, and the sauce was just right, not too much or too little. The pickles and soup were average for the price. You can add liver to your meal for an extra charge, but it wasn't that tasty so I kept it as is. Only the cashier said "thank you" as I left. The other waitstaff didn't greet me. The three people in the kitchen were busy chatting and didn't acknowledge me, which felt rude.

I visited Mr. Tojo (2nd time) for the 65th consecutive week of eel. The price is cheap and the service is fast, making it convenient for when you want to casually eat eel. The taste is decent for the price (lol). The service is average or slightly below. This time, I had the following: [Eel Shop's Special Lunch (Upper)] 1,900 yen The eel is tender and melts in your mouth. The crispy skin is delicious. The rice is firm. The sauce seemed to be more generous than last time, and it was a bit too strong. [Today's Appetizer Trio] 600 yen Overall, it seems a bit pricey for 600 yen. (1) A type with a good balance of sweetness and flavor. The egg is cooked well. It's decent for the price. (2) I added this just to make it a trio, but I would prefer something else. It used to be a shop that could be considered the heart of Okachimachi, but it reopened two doors down with a new building, turning into a clean and modern shop. However, I don't think anything has changed. I had beer and grilled white fish. The waitress took good care of us and we had a pleasant time.

The store has been renovated. The first floor is gone, so now the store only occupies the second floor. It feels much smaller. The "Kasaneju" set costs 5,600 yen and comes with a soup and pickles. The soup is just a normal clear soup, but you can add liver for an extra 150 yen. Adding just a little bit of liver for an extra 150 yen seems a bit expensive. The "Kasaneju" set includes one and a half pieces of eel, with eel hidden under the rice. The eel is steamed softly and is not charred, but has a fragrant and nicely grilled taste. The sauce is light and slightly sweet, making it a delicious eel set.

I finally got the opportunity to go and here is my order and feedback: [Special Lunch Set at the Eel Restaurant] Price: 1,900 yen The set includes an eel rice bowl, soup, and pickles. The eel pieces were on the smaller side but had a good thickness. The eel was not the melt-in-your-mouth type, but rather had a more firm texture. The sauce was not too sweet or spicy, just a safe flavor. The amount of eel on the rice was just right, not too much. The rice was slightly firm and there was plenty of it, which I appreciated. The pickles were decent for the price. The soup did not come with eel liver (you can add it for an extra charge), but the taste was not bad. For 1,900 yen, I think it's just about worth it. However, in the same price range, I believe that the limited eel rice bowl at Kubota (1,700 yen) or the limited eel rice bowl at Unagi Hashimoto (2,000 yen) offer higher quality. Despite saying that, this place is conveniently located nearby, so I plan to continue using it occasionally. [Atmosphere of the Restaurant] The place was recently renovated and looks clean. The interior is not very spacious, but the seating arrangement is convenient for solo diners. The foreign staff members were unfriendly and seemed rude.

After watching a movie, I planned to have sushi for a late lunch, but suddenly I felt like eating eel. I found this restaurant that was renovated last month and decided to visit for the first time. It is located at the top of the stairs on the second floor. It was past 2 o'clock, but they still had a lunch menu, so I ordered the eel bowl (large). I was able to change the miso soup to liver soup, so I chose that. While waiting for my meal, I ordered a draft beer and three appetizers. The appetizers were bone senbei, pickles, and eel roll. The taste was great, good appetizers. After a while, the eel bowl arrived. The taste was... well, not bad, not great either. Let's just say it was okay for the price. At least I got to eat fresh eel, so that's a plus.

Eel specialty restaurant's special lunch (top) 1,900 yen (limited quantity). I will have lunch in Ueno. Today, when I went to the intended shop in Ueno Hirokoji, it was closed for the day. I didn't do enough research~ (>_<) I gathered myself and decided to head to a soba restaurant in Yushima, but that was closed too~ Not going well. I might end up being a lunch refugee at this rate~ (^^;; I returned to Ueno and remembered an eel restaurant that opened on December 3rd on Kaminakadori, so I visited there. I entered at 11:52 am, with 4 customers already inside and no customers behind. It seems they used to operate at the entrance of Kaminakadori, but have now moved two doors down to the 2nd floor. (^^) I ordered the eel bowl (top) for lunch. They offered to change the miso soup to liver soup for an additional 150 yen, but I politely declined. (^^ゞ I ordered and it was served in about 6 minutes. Along with the eel bowl, I got miso soup and pickled daikon and cucumber. I generously sprinkled on my favorite sansho pepper and enjoyed it. The eel was very tender and delicately prepared. It melted in my mouth. It was even more delicious when eaten with the pickles. It would have been perfect if the pickles were Nara pickles. I had to eat quickly because I was short on time, but I wish I could have enjoyed it leisurely. Looking at the customer next to me, leisurely enjoying eel skewers with a glass of sake. Ah~ I envy them~ (^^) Now, I'll hurry back to the office and work hard. It was delicious. Used for lunch on December 26, 2022. No rating.

At Tochinotei in Okachimachi, I had the Unaju (eel on rice), assorted skewers, and bone senbei (rice crackers) set. The restaurant recently moved and renovated, with the entrance now on the second floor where there are 24 seats (the first floor is now a yakiniku restaurant). The newly renovated interior is clean and has a more upscale feel compared to before. Although I didn't compare in detail, it seems that the menu and prices haven't changed much, and the quality of the Unaju remains delicious as ever.
