The chicken with plenty of green onions and sesame ponzu set meal is priced at 869 yen. The Tengu lunch has quietly increased by 100 yen. It's a good price now. I remember they used to have cold noodles, but it seems like they have been replaced by cold noodles now. Today, I had the chicken with green onions and sesame ponzu. The chicken was small and the green onions were okay. But what stood out was the sesame, ponzu, and vinegar! They should have more presence, especially the sesame! It could use a bit more appeal. The atmosphere was good for daytime drinking, and the affordable appetizer menu might be appealing to those customers. Thank you for the meal.

After a long time, I went drinking in Ikebukuro. They didn't have a cheap drinking set here. Maybe there is a difference in quality compared to Shinbashi? Even though it's a chain restaurant, I feel calm when I drink alone here. I was wondering why, but I think it's because of the counter. First, each person has plenty of space, so you can relax. Also, the counter is at just the right height, not too low or too high. It's nice that the time from ordering to receiving is very fast.

This time, I used it for lunch. I was unsure of what to order, but this time, I ordered the Negitoro Donburi (with small side dish). The order included Negitoro Donburi (with small side dish) for 979 yen. The Negitoro Donburi comes with okra, cold tofu, pickles, and miso soup. The other option is the Negitoro Donburi with Negitoro, seaweed, and shiso leaf on top. It was refreshing and delicious. The restaurant has a clean and pleasant atmosphere. I felt like having a drink in Ikebukuro and randomly walked into this shop. It has a similar atmosphere to Kandaya, so I assume it's a related store. The drinks are really cheap, which is very important for someone who loves to drink. Plus, the beer is delicious. As for the food, we had grilled chicken, mapo tofu, ham and eggs, and I forgot what else we ordered, but everything was of very high quality. I was honestly surprised by the level of the food. It surpasses your average izakaya. It was packed as soon as I walked in, but it's a great shop that offers great value.

This is a popular izakaya restaurant located at the west exit of Ikebukuro Station. The underground interior is quite spacious, with tables and counter seats. Recently, I've noticed that I've been going to Tengu-san at night a lot. I usually go to the Shinjuku branch, but today I went to the Ikebukuro branch. The menu is the same as in Shinjuku. By the late afternoon, the place was already almost full. It's clear that it's very popular. As usual, I ordered 4 fried eggs with soy sauce instead of sauce. The refill of popcorn in the middle of the table was huge. The jugs were filled almost to 5/4 with shochu, and I was already quite drunk. Another satisfying day at Tengu-san.

It's been a while since I had lunch right in the middle of lunchtime rush. Everywhere was crowded, so I had to pass on the places I had in mind. I hoped to find a seat at a big-looking place, and to get served quickly at a major chain restaurant. It turned out just as I hoped. However, I regretted ordering the gyoza, as the filling had too much ginger which I don't like. Next time, I'll avoid choosing gyoza as part of my meal. On the other hand, I enjoyed the cabbage side dish with yuzu dressing that came with the chicken. Overall, the taste was decent, so I'll keep this place in mind as an option for busy lunch hours.

No matter what you order, it's at a super cheap price and with a minimal number of steps, but the quality is still great. I only stayed for a little under an hour, but I was very satisfied. You order by scanning a QR code with your own smartphone, which is easy once you get used to it.

On a snowy night, I had about an hour until my next appointment, so I stopped by a reliable izakaya I found along the way and had a hot water mixed with shochu. The speed at which the menu was provided was impressive. The dinner set menu was substantial, and there were many salarymen dining alone.

Chicken cutlet curry rice for 690 yen. Finally, I set my sights on the shrimp fried rice. It's Sunday, so there are a few daytime drinkers here and there. The lone salaryman at the counter orders a cold beer. Now, onto the menu. There are plenty of options. I confidently order the shrimp fried rice, but the staff tells me, "I'm sorry. That item is only available from 3 pm onwards. It can be confusing, right?" Oh, I see...why not just mention that it's available from 3 pm? It would save us both the trouble. To calm my disappointment, I opt for the chicken cutlet curry. It comes with three large chicken cutlets, slightly dipped in curry. The chicken cutlet made from chicken breast is surprisingly big and tender. Drizzling the sauce and dipping it in the curry, I enjoy the crispy texture. At this point, my mood is improving. The curry is more like curry roux rather than traditional curry, but when combined with the chicken cutlet sauce, it's quite satisfying. However, I'll have to come back after 3 pm or plan my strategy for conquering the shrimp fried rice. Cheers.

The renewal from Tengu Sakaba was thought to be Kandaya, but they have put a twist on it. They seem to be experimenting. During the day, they emphasize the set meal feeling at Tengu Shokudo. At night, they serve the set meal dishes as they are, but with changes to the Kandaya-style menu. When I entered around 6:30 pm, the place was less than half full. Just like the sakaba, there were only young people. It was quite noisy. As time passed, it started to fill up. I moved away from the young group to a corner of the counter. Started with a draft beer. The raw horse mackerel in vinegar was sold out, so I ordered the raw horse mackerel sashimi and deep-fried eggplant with ginger. Both were simply delicious. Is the pricing similar to Kandaya for the draft beer? Ordered a second round of draft beer along with a white hoppy set. The molten cheese mille-feuille ham cutlet looked delicious. Had a dilemma before ordering. When you bite into it, the cheese starts to drip. It tastes better with sauce. It has a junk food flavor. The chapchae with green chili pepper also caught my attention. No longer feeling guilty. Ordered without hesitation. The portion was not as expected. The taste was on the strong side. Is it a side dish for rice? Disappointed with the lack of presence of the green chili pepper. Ended with a second round of drinks, cold tofu, and squid salted with guts (no photo). If you think it's cheap and order casually, you might end up spending more than at Tengu Sakaba. It's a shame that the skewer menu has been limited. It was a subtle experience. August 6th.

On Saturday around 2pm, I was wandering in Ikebukuro, unsure of what to eat. As I walked near Seibu Ikebukuro, I found a shop with a wide entrance leading to a staircase down to the basement, with a menu sign displayed in the showcase. The menu had the words "Yakimeshi"! I was craving for Char Siu, so I was drawn into the shop. The spacious interior had a few customers enjoying lunch drinks. I ordered the Char Siu fried rice for 690 yen (759 yen). It arrived in about 5 minutes. True to its name, the fried rice was topped with chunky pieces of Char Siu. Each grain of rice was coated in oil, giving it a moist texture and delicious flavor. The pork belly Char Siu was juicy and meaty, very tasty. I wish it came with soup, that would have been nice. They also have a variety of cafeteria-style dishes like Napolitan, ramen, udon, and a wide selection of appetizers, so I would like to come here for drinks too. It was a very satisfying lunch, thank you for the meal!

The classic style Napoletana for 649 yen. I went to a drinking party the day before yesterday. Yesterday, I had Char Siu fried rice, and today I had Napoletana. Hah, three days in a row. The reason? It's too hot to walk and I just felt like eating it. Close by, cheap, and fast. Just the right size and distance. In short, I acted before my brain could think (^^) *Old-fashioned Napoletana The name of this menu is the key! This Napoletana is completely different from what I've been eating recently. The pasta is soft and mushy. The ketchup flavor is sweet. It may seem unappetizing, but it's not. It's old-fashioned... Yes. Maybe, probably, this is how it used to be. Maybe my taste buds have become more refined. Ah, it's nostalgic... Thinking that way, I suddenly found this pasta delicious and endearing. If I praise it this much, the old-fashioned Napoletana would be pleased, I suppose. Cheers. P.S. I won't be coming tomorrow!

Goro Goro Char Siu Fried Rice for 759 yen at Tengu Dai Hall in Shinbashi just now. And for lunch, it's Tengu Dai Hall in Ikebukuro. I chose it myself, and it's a winning streak. The new Tengu Sakaba has a wide variety of lunch menu options and is relatively reasonable. Customers drinking during the day are asking for potato fries, draft beer, and sour cocktails. Just a moment ago, we were the ones asking for those... The Goro Goro Char Siu Fried Rice is great, isn't it? Exactly, the Char Siu was a bit less than on the menu, but there was plenty in the actual dish. The fried rice may have been pre-prepared and frozen, but it was hot and tasty when served. It's lightly seasoned, but when eaten with the flavorful Char Siu, it all comes together. A bit of extra kick from black pepper also worked well. Tengu is working hard both day and night, and so am I. Cheers.

I was strolling around Minami Ikebukuro and stumbled upon this place! It seemed like a different concept store of Tengu Sakaba, so I decided to drop by. The clientele inside was mostly students (60%), followed by work drinking parties (30%), and others (10%). Surprisingly, there were more women here compared to Tengu Sakaba! They had many items sold out, but managed to order the following: - Simmered tripe: ¥429 - Iburi Gakko cheese: ¥385 - Chicken gizzard sashimi: ¥429 There were some unique drinks available, but personally, I felt the difference between the menu photos and the actual dishes served was quite drastic compared to Tengu Sakaba. It would be better if they put more effort into the presentation.

Domestic chicken cutlet curry rice set for 650 yen, fried dumplings for 200 yen. A stand flower was set up to celebrate the opening in a corner near the workplace. It seems that Tengu is aiming to combine an izakaya and a dining hall with a new business style. They renovated the original Tengu to open this new place. It was a Sunday at noon, and of course they were serving lunch. The place had a few customers at first, but it quickly filled up with about 70% capacity, including alcohol customers. The staff were all wearing matching polo shirts, moving around energetically and busily. The raw horse mackerel was recommended, but unfortunately, they were out of stock when I ordered the mixed fry. So I went back to basics. The chicken cutlet curry rice was served on a silver plate with curry covering half of the rice and three chicken cutlets on top. It came with cabbage and miso soup. The curry was a mild, easy-to-eat type without any ingredients. The chicken cutlets were freshly fried, as expected. I also ordered an additional 5 small dumplings, which had a strong ginger flavor. They were smaller than expected, almost like mini dumplings. They might be good as a snack with alcohol. The new business style, unique menu, and low prices may help it gain popularity in the future. If it becomes popular with repeat customers, that would be great. I appreciate that there are not many lunch options on Sundays, so I will definitely revisit to try the horse mackerel fry if it's available. Thank you for the meal.

About 3 minutes from Ikebukuro Station East Exit, there is a restaurant that used to be Tengu Sakaba but has changed its concept. There is a stylish sample case at the entrance of the underground store. The interior is similar to before, with a smoking room so the main area is non-smoking. It was not very crowded when I visited in the early afternoon, with only about 20% of the seats occupied. They offer lunch sets starting from 600 yen. From 2 pm, they switch to a dinner menu, which includes set meals but at a higher price. They also offer individual rice dishes, but miso soup is not included. I started with a draft beer (299 yen including tax) but found it too foamy, so I switched to a large bottle of Akaboshi beer (715 yen including tax). There is no table charge or appetizer fee. The drink menu is similar to the one at Kandaya in the West Exit. The food menu consists mostly of meal items. I tried the horse mackerel tataki (429 yen including tax), which was small and lacked fat, and the house-made horse mackerel fry (429 yen including tax), which was small but fresh and fluffy. The potato salad stuffed peppers (319 yen for 3) were refreshing and easy to eat. The tempura (143 yen each) was very salty, and the vegetable ankake yakisoba (429 yen including tax) had plenty of carrots, leeks, and onions. It was filling and came with vinegar and mustard on the table. I also had a cheap lemon punch (209 yen including tax) a few times before leaving. Despite the few customers, there were some issues on their opening day, but the spacious and relaxed atmosphere makes me want to visit again. I went to another place right after this.
