After eating croquettes and minced meat at Niku no Oyama, I started to crave sushi as expected, haha. So, we decided to go to a nearby affordable sushi restaurant. Since we had a lot of luggage, we chose a table seat. It was around 5:30 pm, and there were only two other customers in the restaurant. We ordered some hot sake and checked out the appetizers. We found "firefly squid sashimi" on the menu, so we ordered that right away. We also ordered some kobujime (kelp-cured fish) with sushi rice. The appetizers arrived quite quickly. The firefly squid was well-prepared and the kobujime sushi was beautifully presented. We chatted away, ordering more hot sake. We also ordered various sushi dishes. Of course, we couldn't miss out on the flying fish roe, so we ordered four servings by default. Everyone enjoyed it and ended up eating all of them. The saury sushi was very delicious. We also added fatty tuna, squid tentacles, and more flying fish roe (we really wanted to eat a lot, huh?). The sushi rolls were neatly made, and the sushi rice was well-prepared. While it may not be on par with high-end sushi restaurants in terms of the quality of the fish and rice, I think this restaurant is enjoyable enough. They must have a skilled sushi chef. I think this place is good for when you want to casually drink and eat sushi. Just keep in mind that smoking is allowed inside the restaurant.

I requested a smaller portion of sushi. It was my first time being taken by a regular customer, and I was impressed by the soft and flavorful taste of the sushi. The chef allowed me to compare different textures and provided a high-quality dining experience. I would like to visit again.

I had work in Ueno and finished earlier than expected, so I decided to take my time and find a restaurant for a leisurely meal. I started wandering around the area near Okachimachi and stumbled upon a place called "Sushi Shunsai Takanoha Ueno 2nd Branch." The fact that it was the 2nd branch caught my attention, and I later found out they also have a branch in Shinbashi. The exterior and interior of the restaurant had a stylish feel to it. I sat down, looked through the menu, and ordered various dishes including appetizers, assorted sashimi, fresh firefly squid, fried tuna cheek meat, young ayu tempura, and a sushi platter. While the food was decent overall, there were a few things that left me feeling a bit unsatisfied. When considering the ambiance, service, and the final bill, I noticed some points that raised some concerns. It was not exactly what I had in mind when I was craving for "sushi." Overall, it was an interesting dining experience.

Today, I visited Ueno for a gathering with my colleagues. We decided to have drinks after a long time, and Ueno was the chosen location! Ueno is a big city with many izakayas, but as it was getting late, most of the shops were already closed. However, we found a small sushi restaurant on Nemachi Street called "Sushi Shunsai Takano Hane." It seems to be their second branch! The restaurant had a small counter, table seating, and tatami rooms in the back, so we opted for a tatami room. We started with some draft beer, and the dry Super Dry was perfect for this season. The appetizer was a dish of tuna skin mixed with vegetables and vinegar miso, which was refreshing and crunchy. The daily specials were listed on a board, and we decided to try the assorted sashimi platter, featuring medium fatty tuna, amberjack, striped jack, scallop, squid, and bonito. They also included seasonal young ayu and firefly squid in various preparations. And of course, we couldn't miss out on the nigiri sushi! We left it to the chef's choice and enjoyed medium fatty tuna, sea urchin, and salmon roe, among others. The sushi made by the skilled chef was truly exceptional. Thank you for the delicious meal.

After work in Ueno, I suddenly decided to have a drinking party in Okachimachi! I was excited to find out that the venue for tonight's party was actually a sushi restaurant! Just hearing the word sushi gets me excited! And we had a private table in a sunken kotatsu seating area. We started off with a toast with cold beer. As someone who often drinks alone, I realized that beer tastes better when shared with friends. For appetizers, we had a sashimi platter with incredibly delicious tuna, marinated firefly squid which went well with alcohol, tempura of young ayu fish with a unique aroma, small fried fish called "sekai no miyachan", fried and seared tuna cheek meat, and scallops with herb butter. The last dish was a sushi assortment platter, which took a bit of time to arrive but was definitely worth the wait. Sushi always makes me feel happy! This restaurant is open late at night, so I would love to visit again with my friends. Thank you for the delicious meal.

I prefer the back side of Ueno because there are many chain stores on the front side. I discovered this side while wanting to eat sushi and decided to visit. There was an empty counter when I peeked in. There was a fish tank in front of the table with many fish swimming inside. The sashimi and the recommended dish of "aosa and white fish tempura" were delicious! However, the simmered yellowtail with daikon was tough and not enjoyable. I was too full from the sushi, so I couldn't eat much. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very nice.

Well, it was not great. The location was right in the middle of a sketchy area with lots of "shady" shops around. The service, portion size, and overall quality were just okay, but the prices were high. I can see why it was easy to get a reservation even during busy times. This is definitely not a place I will be visiting again.

Tonight, I visited a sushi restaurant that also serves izakaya dishes. The grilled saury, bonito, sardine, and mackerel sashimi were all delicious. The sardine was particularly tasty with its rich flavor.

The sashimi was fresh, but lacked a certain freshness. Grilled salted sardine was good, as well as the octopus tempura. The sashimi platter was okay, with good tuna, average sea bream and scallop. The nigiri sushi was disappointing, especially the tuna. The rolls were average. The nori on the battleship and rolls was not crispy. I didn't finish the nigiri sushi. The restaurant was crowded and noisy, I wished it was quieter. I had about 5 beers and some shochu on the rocks, but the selection of shochu was limited.

The jokes were funny and the head chef was very friendly, making the conversation very enjoyable! The variety of dishes was plentiful, and the bluefin chub mackerel, which is not commonly found in Kansai, was exquisite. I made a promise to come back again next time.

I visited this restaurant on a weekday in February 2015 around 8:20 pm. Although I did not make a reservation, I was seated in a private room at the back of the restaurant. The restaurant was about 70% full. I ordered "nigiri sushi, chawanmushi, pickles, and satsumaage". Since the restaurant was busy, I was prepared for a wait, but the individual dishes were served in a reasonable amount of time. The nigiri sushi took longer because it was prepared by the chef at the counter. There was nothing particularly outstanding about the taste, but I believe I would have enjoyed the experience more if I had more time to sit at the counter. Unfortunately, I was pressed for time on this visit, so I hope to have a chance to enjoy the restaurant more on my next visit.

On weekdays at night, I visited the second branch of this restaurant, which is located very close to the first branch. I choose the first branch for counter seating and the second branch for private room use. Both branches have the same chefs and ingredients, so there is no difference in taste. I had a sashimi platter, squid with natto, and rolled sushi. The sashimi was delicious with fatty Sanma (Pacific saury) and fresh mackerel. Each had a different texture that was enjoyable. That's the kind of place it is.
