I visited this shop in Funabori 2-chome that I've been curious about for a while to get some rice cakes (56th shop in the Funabori-Shinozaki area). It looks like a traditional Japanese sweets shop that has been around for a long time, and there are quite a few shops like this still in Funabori. Among them, this shop emits the most old-fashioned aura. They also have red rice, inari sushi, and thin rolls. I got "yakidango" (100 yen) and "andango" (100 yen) each. I enjoyed them at home. First, the andango. When I took a bite, I found it to be very soft. I haven't had such a soft rice cake before. It's simple and delicious. The sweet bean paste is not too sweet. Next is the yakidango, which is essentially a mitarashi dango. This one is also a soft rice cake, but the grilling is perfect. It's fluffy inside and slightly crispy outside. The flavor of mitarashi is also perfect. It's a perfect mitarashi dango. I really like this place. I will definitely visit again in the future.

Purchased during a cherry blossom viewing event at Oshima Komatsugawa Park with my cycling friends. We stopped by on our way from Urayasu by bike. I bought traditional Japanese sweets like anko dango, mitarashi dango, and an donut. The prices were quite reasonable. The dango was very soft and gentle. They also sold seaweed rolls. An elderly man was running the shop, and he seemed to be a craftsman as well. It had a nice atmosphere. I think there are many shops like this in the Kanto region.

This shop is located on the middle right side of the road leading to the embankment where there are shops lining up, after turning right at the signal just before the small bridge crossing to Kitakasai from Funabori Station. The shop has a traditional tobacco shop-like design, with a showcase in front where you can choose your items from and tell the staff inside. There is also a similar Japanese sweets shop on the left side before this shop. I like both shops, but I prefer this shop further back because it tends to have fewer customers compared to the one closer to the station. While selecting items in the shop, I wonder if the two people working there are a parent and child. The shop offers items like "mitarashi dango," "daifuku," "red rice," and "anko donuts." Although the variety is not extensive, the items are delicious as they seem to be made in-store.

The dried gourd is thin. The daifuku has a great chewy texture.

After leaving Funabori Station on the Toei Shinjuku Line, walk towards the Arakawa and Nakagawa rivers. The two or three streets on the south side of the tracks have a slightly shopping street-like atmosphere. At the edge, I discovered a traditional Japanese confectionery shop called "Notoya". A dark green tent hides the entrance. It has a somewhat shady bookstore vibe from the past. Intrigued by the slogan "dango", I decided to check it out. Behind the tent is a regular face-to-face traditional Japanese confectionery shop. It's set up this way to avoid direct sunlight. I bought one stick of dango for 100 yen, as well as an anko dango and yaki dango (mitarashi) for 100 yen each. I walked through the shopping street while eating. The dango was delicious. It was freshly pounded and soft, with just the right amount of stickiness. The sweet bean paste was elegantly sweetened with white sugar, complementing the soft dango perfectly. Yaki dango was coated in a sweet soy sauce glaze. The slightly burnt marks added a delightful aroma. Thank you for the meal. Hahaha.
