I tried the newly renovated curry at Yoshinoya without realizing it had changed. I had tried the previous black curry a few times, but I didn't like the thick roux. This time, they used 27 types of spices, onions, and chicken broth to create a curry with a rich and delicious flavor that pairs well with beef and onions. The flavor does seem to suit the beef better than the previous black curry. However, the thickening agent made from wheat flour is too overpowering, making it feel heavy. As I continued eating, it felt like I was eating a curry with a gloopy wheat flour texture. I wonder why they didn't make it smoother. I prefer curry with vegetables that have melted into a thick sauce over a smooth curry, but I would rather avoid the gloopy wheat flour.

In the morning, I wanted to eat eel, but there are limited options for eel restaurants in the morning. Ideally, I would like to go for reasonably priced domestic eel, but it's morning so there's no choice. I have compared eel dishes from Yoshinoya, Matsuya, Sukiya, Nakau, and Yayoiken before, and I felt Yoshinoya had the best eel, so I went to Yoshinoya. Yoshinoya's eel is on the sweeter side, so the eel sauce is also sweet and leans towards Kansai-style. I ordered the Two-Piece Eel Bowl with Beef and a Small Side Dish Set for 2,326 yen, and added extra rice for 55 yen. However, the rice portion was not enough at all. I thought it was a mistake in my selection, but I decided against adding more. The eel was thick and had more fat than I expected, making it quite rich. I was buzzing with energy from the morning.

I was planning to have a quick breakfast at Yoshinoya, but then I saw that they had a limited-time special menu featuring beef tongue and beef dish set. I decided to try it out. When beef tongue was first introduced at Yoshinoya, it was a disappointment as it was an original dish with sauce, but this time it was more like something you would find at a beef tongue specialty restaurant. The spicy pickles were a nice touch, and the beef tongue was tender and well-prepared. I opted for extra rice as it was free with the set. I enjoyed the beef tongue and beef dish set (8 slices of beef tongue) for 1427 yen, and I also changed the miso soup for an additional 143 yen.

After refueling my car on the way home from work, I stopped by Yoshinoya at Higashikurume Shimosato store for the first time in a while. Without hesitation, I ordered the large beef bowl (635 yen). I put a little less pickled ginger than usual. It was a very delicious classic beef bowl.

■Order Details (incl. tax) Teppan Beef Kalbi Set Meal: 662 yen (after 50 yen discount coupon used) ■Impressions I couldn't stop eating it, it's quite addictive. Before putting the meat on the grill, I poured the yakiniku sauce that was on the table and it sizzled. The rice was delicious and even though I usually eat small portions, I finished the large serving easily. The cost performance is also great.

The marketing executive in charge made a blunder during a lecture at Waseda University, but back in the day when I was in charge, a similar incident happened although it was not publicized, and I remember refusing to do business with them because of their arrogant attitude towards suppliers. However, that is not the fault of the restaurant, so I decided to visit and try their "new parent and child bowl" dish. The restaurant is conveniently located near my home and has a spacious parking lot, which is helpful. This was my second visit, and it seems they greet customers with "hello" instead of "welcome." I wonder how other restaurants are like in this area? I ordered the "new parent and child bowl" and later added the A set with vegetables and miso soup. The ratio of dine-in and take-out customers is about half and half, which is different from city-center restaurants. It seems like customers who choose take-out buy a considerable amount. Soon, the "new parent and child bowl & A set" arrived. The presentation is not very appealing as a "parent and child bowl," but considering the price of 398 yen before tax, I can't complain! I took a bite, and while it didn't have a strong impact, it was decent. I was worried about the chicken skin, but I didn't see any, perhaps due to the preparation of the chicken thigh. There is a slight hint of chicken smell, but it's tolerable. It reminded me of the "parent and child bowl" served in university cafeterias. So, it turns out that the "parent and child bowl" at Nakau is actually tasty! I rediscovered it. With the vegetable salad and miso soup included, the total price of 699 yen after tax was satisfyingly filling. If I were to eat here again, I might go for the extra-large beef bowl with extra broth. Thank you for the meal.

■Reason for choosing the restaurant: I happened to come across it before and since it was lunchtime, I decided to stop by.
■Order (including tax):
Regular-sized Gyudon (beef bowl): 426 yen
■Impression: I think hot Japanese tea goes best with Gyudon. It's nice that they serve it in a proper tea cup. Lately, many places follow this pattern. (There was a certain Gyudon restaurant that served hot tea in a regular cup, which was not good.) The Gyudon was delicious as usual.

Under the clear sky that was a complete change from yesterday, the third installment of the G Survey (Gyudon Survey) began today, at a roadside store located very close to my home, with a great location at a corner with a parking lot that can accommodate up to 20 cars. My last visit to Yoshinoya was in the fall two years ago when I forgot my wallet and paid with PASMO in Kanda. The impression back then was that the taste was too strong and not very enjoyable. The last time I ate at Yoshinoya in Kyobashi, I remember the taste not being as strong. With two years passed and a different location in the suburbs, I decided to give it another try.
The interior of the store was surprisingly spacious and clean. What surprised me the most was the absence of ticket machines or touch panels for ordering, opting instead for face-to-face ordering with the staff. While other stores have quickly moved towards automation, it's interesting that Yoshinoya has not changed its approach even during the pandemic.
I ordered a gyudon set with pickled cabbage and miso soup for 588 yen (tax included). If ordered as a single item, the gyudon costs 426 yen (tax included). Most of the customers dining in were men, but there seemed to be a high demand for takeout, with mostly female customers, unlike "Nakau" or "Sukiya."
The gyudon set with pickled cabbage and miso soup arrived. The beef was surprisingly light in flavor and delicious, unlike my previous experience in Kanda. Eating it with pickled ginger enhanced the taste even more. The pickled cabbage was slightly less salty, perhaps considering the preference of Kanto region residents to add soy sauce to pickles. The miso soup was similar to most other stores, with a light broth that could be a bit stronger, but it seems to be each company's policy.
While eating and observing the surroundings, I noticed that very few people were actually eating gyudon. Most were enjoying different menu items, and only three of us, including myself, were holding gyudon bowls. It was surprising to see such a low percentage of people eating gyudon at a gyudon restaurant, but I guess it's the era of diversity. Overall, it was a delicious meal!
Flavor Intensity: 2
Taste: 3
Cost: 2
Overall Rating: 3
(Note: Flavor Intensity ranges from 1-3 with 1 being the lightest, Taste and Cost are rated out of 5, and Overall Rating is out of 5 as well. Matsuya is not included in the comparison.)

The special spicy sauce is disappointingly lacking in sweetness. I prefer a sweet and savory flavor in my spicy stew and kimchi, where the seafood umami turns into sweetness. However, this clam and pork spicy stew set lacks the umami and leans more towards a salty and spicy taste, giving it a refreshing flavor. Yoshinoya tends to have a sweeter taste overall, which is my preference, but this dish was a letdown. It's like the difference between the eel sauce in Kyushu and Kanto. Maybe the clear and refreshing taste is more accepted in Kanto. However, people from Kanto should try the eel from Yufuin, Kyushu, as it tastes completely different.

The Beef Yakiniku Set Meal with Ginger Flavor (excluding tax 598 yen) seems to be a test product, as it is not listed on the website and may be limited to certain stores. The dish was served quickly, with the hot plate sizzling but settling down soon after. It appeared to be heavily seasoned, but upon tasting, it was indeed very flavorful. The rice was refillable, making it easy to enjoy with the meal. The ginger flavor was subtle, but a bit more freshness would have been nice. The meat used was the same as that in gyudon, and the slices were quite long.

I originally liked Yoshinoya's slightly sweet beef sukiyaki with lots of vegetables, so I thought I might be biased when comparing regular North American beef sukiyaki and black wagyu beef sukiyaki. But I could tell the difference from the first bite. There is quite a difference between them. North American beef has a slightly chewy texture in some parts, but black wagyu beef doesn't have that. And when you chew black wagyu beef, the fatty part melts in your mouth and tastes sweet and juicy.

On October 6, 2019, I had a morning beef bowl at the Yoshinoya in Shimozato, Higashikurume City. I ordered the large size beef bowl for a limited time at 400 yen (excluding tax) and added kimchi for 102 yen. The beef bowl at Yoshinoya has an exquisite sauce that is simply delicious! The other day, when I tried beef bowls at other chain stores, I realized once again that Yoshinoya's beef bowl is the best. The large size option only increases the amount of beef, not the rice, so it's a bit lower in calories, which is great when you're hungry. Thanks for the meal.

Looking at the menu, it seems like they offer a variety of dishes from curry to eel to set meals to anything you can think of. It's like they can't rely on just serving gyudon. It's like a knockoff of Sukiya. Despite having a wide range of menu options, there are only a few staff members. The place is a mess and the staff are running around. Even though there are only about 10 customers, the service is slow. It took over 10 minutes from entering to getting my food, which is not very fast food-like. I ordered the Tsukimi Gyudon set, and it's just like Yoshinoya with a slight difference in taste. Of course, it's delicious.

I tried the "sukiyaki ju" using US sirloin after seeing a post by a MyReviewer. The US sirloin is a bit dry, but it is well covered with raw egg and sauce. The dish is very well done. The price is a bit high, but the quality is worth it. It's been a while since I came to Yoshinoya, but I see they also have table seating. Apparently, children can eat at half price during the summer vacation. Thank you for the meal.

From the morning on August 13th, I went to Yoshinoya. Normally I would have the breakfast set, but after seeing the Yoshinoya commercial featuring Jun Sato, I suddenly felt like having a beef bowl. I ordered the regular beef bowl set with kimchi miso soup for 530 yen. It was served in just 2 minutes. I dug in right away. Mmm, mmm, it's so delicious! The seasoning of the beef bowl is definitely Yoshinoya's specialty. It has a unique taste that you can't find at Matsuya or Sukiya. The kimchi at Yoshinoya also has the perfect balance of sweetness and spiciness that I love. Thank you for the meal.

I won a coupon for a free regular beef bowl, so I decided to visit Yoshinoya, a restaurant I don't usually go to. Unlike a similar beef bowl restaurant located closest to this one, Yoshinoya kept the portion size the same but increased the price by just the amount of consumption tax. I don't have a photo, but there was plenty of beef, and the rice was hidden underneath. Lately, even fast food doesn't feel as cost-effective as before. I don't benefit much from American beef, but I still enjoyed the meal.

Around 6:50 PM, I went to the restaurant. It was crowded with people, using Uber, takeout, and dining in. When I placed my order, I was informed that it would take some time. I ordered a large beef bowl with a salad set. After a while, the beef bowl that lacked flavor was served. Honestly, it was not tasty. This is the first time I've eaten such a bad beef bowl. I paid ¥764 and ate something so unappetizing. Please provide something more normal and delicious! I'm watching the employees who always act so high and mighty.
