I had the Pork Cutlet Curry (large portion) at this cafeteria located right below the Yasuda Auditorium when I visited the University of Tokyo for work. It's not really an intrusion, but more like a visit. I remember this cafeteria being very lively when I visited before. However, now during the pandemic, they have restrictions on the number of people allowed in, so the place was very quiet even during meal times. Anyway, this time I had already decided to try the curry. One of my followers recommended it to me, so I was curious. I headed straight to the curry corner and ordered. Since I was feeling quite hungry, I opted for the large portion of the Pork Cutlet Curry. By the way, the Pork Cutlet Curry comes with 2 pieces of pork cutlet. When you choose the large portion, you get an extra piece of pork cutlet. After paying, I went to get some napkins and noticed something strange at the condiment corner. There was a small bottle labeled "Curry Hot." I had never seen this seasoning before in my life. I had to try it. Since I wanted to taste the default flavor, I decided to try the seasoning on a separate plate. Now, let's eat. First, I tried the simple curry roux with rice. Hmm, this curry is nothing special but tastes really good. It's not spicy or like homemade curry, but it's a flavor that makes you want to eat more. Next, the pork cutlet. I didn't have high expectations for this pork cutlet because it's a pre-made side dish, probably frozen, and these kinds of cutlets are often disappointing (based on my personal experience). But surprisingly, it was delicious. It was a small piece, but moist and fresh. I usually prefer loin for tonkatsu, but for curry, pork cutlet works too. Pouring the delicious curry over the pork cutlet makes a perfect accompaniment to rice. About halfway through, I decided to try the "Curry Hot." It looked like a watery version of chili oil, but let's see. I mixed it with the curry roux and tried it. Oh, this is a straightforward spiciness. It's not exactly like chili pepper, but it adds just the right amount of heat to the curry without altering the flavor. I later found out that it's sold in wholesale supermarkets. I need to buy this. Since I ordered the large portion, I was quite full. The large portion at the cafeteria is definitely student-sized. I underestimated it. I need to take a short walk before getting back to work in the afternoon. By the way, I noticed something interesting while walking. Most University of Tokyo students don't seem to walk while looking at their phones. They really are in a league of their own. That was a satisfying meal.
