I had been interested in this shop for a while, so I decided to buy an onigiri from there when I was heading out from Ueno Station. There were various types of onigiri lined up, all looking delicious, but I didn't have time to hesitate, so I quickly chose the Crispy Plum and Bonito Flakes onigiri that caught my eye. When asked if I wanted it in a pack or a paper bag, I chose the paper bag for easy disposal. Since I was only getting one onigiri, it seemed like the better option. I also got a canned beer, found a seat on the Shinkansen, took off my jacket, and now it's time to eat. The Crispy Plum and Bonito Flakes onigiri had more filling than I expected and was delicious, but it was a bit small, so it didn't feel very filling (although that might just be because I was really hungry). I should have bought another one. It was tasty. Thank you for the meal. Crispy Plum and Bonito Flakes onigiri - 210 yen (tax included)

Today, I went to Niigata Racecourse to cheer for my favorite horse. Since there are only early buses from Niigata Station to the racecourse, I bought onigiri from "Honnoriya" at Ueno Station in the early morning and boarded the Shinkansen. I purchased two onigiri, one with spicy cod roe and pickled mustard greens, and the other with grilled salmon and salmon roe. I enjoyed them on the Shinkansen. The onigiri were softly packed and delicious. I also had a lemon highball. Once on the Shinkansen, it was a quick trip to Niigata. I enjoyed a solo drink while looking at the horse racing newspaper for the race my horse was in. Thank you for the delicious meal. "Honnoriya Ecute Ueno Shop" Tokyo, Taito-ku, Ueno 7-1-1, 5:00-22:00.

Ueno Ecute's rice ball shop. Next to the rice ball sales counter, there is a seating area available. I ordered a seared cod roe rice ball for 220 yen and today's miso soup for 100 yen at the showcase. They brought it to the seating area for me. The seating area is not very spacious, but it is functional with a handwashing area. There are 3 counter seats and 3 table seats. The seared cod roe rice ball is decent. The seaweed is a bit dry and the rice could be cooked better, but if you like cod roe rice balls, it's good enough. The miso soup is a typical one with tofu and seaweed. It has a rounded flavor using miso with a surprisingly strong dashi taste. I thought it was a convenient place for breakfast.

This is a slightly cozy shop called "Ekute" inside JR Ueno Station. It mainly sells rice balls, but there is a seating area next to the shop where you can relax a bit. On this day, I was in a hurry so I chose a rice ball and a rolled omelette, then sat down to eat. I think I had a tuna mayo and kelp rice ball. It was nice to see everyone politely offering their seats to each other. This is one of the things that make me happy about Japanese people. It was a grateful place. Thank you for the meal.

Had breakfast at Ueno Station. Spotted some panda-shaped tamagoyaki with a panda imprint and couldn't resist. Ate it in the dining area. Ordered the Panda Set (550 yen) with miso soup (100 yen). Also had a salmon onigiri and red rice. It's convenient to grab a quick breakfast at the station. It's self-service, but they have water available too.

Before going to the art museum, I had a light breakfast because I know I can't enjoy the museum on an empty stomach or when feeling too full. Of course, I chose onigiri, which comes in many varieties and can make you feel satisfied. I also had a side of tamagoyaki (Japanese rolled omelette), which surprised me in a good way. As expected in Ueno, known as the city of pandas, I enjoyed my breakfast.

Ueno Onigiri Set 450 yen, Miso Soup 100 yen. Today, I dined in at Ecute Ueno inside JR Ueno Station. They offer a set menu which includes onigiri with chicken and thick omelette. I chose spicy cod roe and chicken burdock onigiri. I thought the 100 yen miso soup was a bit expensive, but I decided to order it anyway. I entered at 7:15 am and there were no other customers. The onigiri was soft and fluffy, but the rice was a bit too firm for my liking. The miso soup with seaweed and tofu was a good choice since the onigiri was a bit too firm. Overall, it was a satisfying meal. Thank you. Used for breakfast on December 24, 2020. Rating: 3.18

I visited the shop "Hon'noriya Ecute Ueno Store" inside JR Ueno Station's "Ecute Ueno" in late November morning for the first time. I decided to dine in on this day. First, I ordered and paid at the register. On this day, I purchased "Red salmon and salmon roe" (280 yen), "Special tuna mayo" (200 yen), and "Miso soup" (170 yen). The eat-in space has a total of 11 seats. The shop opens at 7 am, so it was nice to start the day with a hearty breakfast of onigiri and warm miso soup when there was some time in the morning. Thank you for the meal.

On a weekday just after 10 am, I decided to have brunch. I ordered the "Onigiri Set" which includes 2 onigiri of your choice (each under 200 yen), karaage (fried chicken), and tamagoyaki (rolled omelette) for 450 yen. I added miso soup for an extra 100 yen, making it a total of 550 yen. I chose tuna mayo and plum onigiri. I had the set in the eat-in area since it was empty. The onigiri was slightly warm and the seaweed was moist, probably due to being wrapped in film. The size was a bit small, but I could finish both easily. The tamagoyaki was moist and flavorful, with a nice dashi taste. The karaage had a homemade feel with a crispy coating of potato starch. The miso soup had wakame seaweed and tofu, and a strong fish-based dashi flavor. It was nice to enjoy warm onigiri and miso soup for brunch, leaving me feeling cozy and satisfied.

I bought salmon ikura and tempura, and tamagoyaki. They were small onigiri but each bite was delicious with ingredients throughout. The panda-shaped tamagoyaki was sweet as it looks (lol). Thank you for the meal! ✩

I couldn't find any other shops open in the early morning, so I decided to go with this place. I ordered the morning set for 450 yen, which included onigiri, karaage, and dashimaki. I chose the chicken rice and mentaiko onigiri. I enjoyed it on the express train. The karaage was still slightly warm and delicious. Thank you for the meal.

【Reason for visit】Before heading to today's main destination, I found an onigiri shop at the station and decided to grab a light snack like a small onigiri (*'▽'*).【Visit time】August 25th (Sunday) around 10:05 AM (^o^)/【Number of customers】2 people (*^-^*)【Ordered item】Eel kabayaki onigiri (^^)【Reason for ordering】I suddenly felt like having eel, so I decided to go for it (^-^)【Service】It comes with a wet tissue (≧∇≦*) Now, let's dig in m(._.)m【Impression of the food】The eel kabayaki onigiri is about the same size as a convenience store onigiri (^ー^) The rice is seasoned with eel sauce, but lacks sweetness, depth, and richness in flavor (-ω-;) The eel is soft and has a grilled texture, with the eel flavor and umami being weak and the spiciness and aroma of sansho pepper masking it quite a bit (´`:) The seaweed is moist and has a soft texture, with a subtle seaweed aroma and flavor (´`:) Overall, it was an okay meal at "Hon'noriya" m(._.)m

On a weekend morning around 7:30. ★ Sea Bream Rice Bowl ¥280 ★ Octopus Rice Bowl ¥270 ★ Miso Soup ¥160
The "Sea Bream Rice Bowl" is 10 yen cheaper than when I had it a few years ago. The sea bream is said to be from the Uwa Sea... on the Ehime side of the Bungo Channel. This rice bowl is generously mixed with sea bream, allowing you to fully taste the flavor of the fish. The saltiness is also excellent, truly delicious.
The "Octopus Rice Bowl" contains small octopus... supposedly from Sanriku. It's slightly salty... neither delicious nor bad, just okay.
The miso soup has discolored Wakame seaweed. I don't want to pay 160 yen for this. Disappointing.

Slightly Late Night at Ueno, most varieties were still available which was helpful. The shop also offers dine-in options. Most recommended is the Sauce Katsu Onigiri ★ A rice ball with thick and tender breaded pork cutlet soaked in sauce! The main focus is on the pork cutlet rather than the rice. Aged Hakata Mentaiko ★ Plenty of mentaiko inside! Perfect match with rice! Red Salmon Ikura ★ Plenty of salmon roe on top and inside. The rice itself is mixed with salmon so you can enjoy the collaboration of salmon and roe.

I was feeling a bit hungry, so I was wandering around Ueno Station when I spotted a rice ball shop. I remembered that you can eat in there, and when I looked at the menu, I saw they had Matsutake mushroom rice balls! I decided to order one to try. I also ordered the recommended Tempura rice ball, which was surprisingly expensive at 550 yen. When I said I would eat in the shop, they brought a tray to my seat. The service was very good. The staff were polite as well. Now, as for the taste, it was simply delicious. The rice was cooked a bit firm and well-formed. It was quite good. The flavor was also strong and satisfying, with no complaints there. The only downside is that it's a bit pricey. Maybe it's because of the location. I would like to use it again when I get hungry. Thank you for the meal.

Near Ueno Station Park Exit, there is a rice ball shop called "Honnoriya" located in Eki Ueno. It is a shop where you can take out and also eat in the restaurant area. You can enjoy your meal inside the restaurant or take it with you to eat on the Shinkansen or in Ueno Park. I ordered a set with two rice balls, side dishes, and miso soup for under 200 yen. I really wanted to eat rice and miso soup. The rice balls had bonito flakes and chicken and vegetable fillings. It's rare to find rice balls for under 200 yen, but it's great that they open from 7 am. I had a lightly salted rice ball while doing my morning work. I usually don't eat breakfast, but sometimes I feel like having it. Today, I bought edamame and pickled shiba, and seared tarako. I like tarako and edamame. Now, it's time to work on this Saturday. Let's do our best. ---May 28, 2020 Update--- Looking back at past articles, I found some that were not linked to my eating log, so I will clean them up along with the end-of-month processing. I used to work every other Saturday back then, and sometimes I had breakfast at work. Nostalgic. Honnoriya Ecute Ueno Store 03-5826-5632 Tokyo, Taito-ku, Ueno 7-1-1.

I didn't have time for lunch during my business trip, so I was looking for something to buy at Ueno Station and eat on the Shinkansen. I found a shop called "Honnoriya" which sells onigiri. I wonder if it's related to JR because I see it at other stations too, and it's always crowded. They had small onigiri with salmon or ikura for 280 yen each, neatly displayed in the showcase. I bought three. Compared to convenience store onigiri (which are cheaper), the price is double, but the handmade, delicious onigiri made me feel good as I started my business trip.

I bought it because it was cute. It was sweet and delicious. Two of them were just right for a little snack.
