Late October 2017. Yesterday morning, I watched the exhibition game between Tokyo Mets and Tokyo University (B) team at the University of Tokyo Baseball Field in Hongo. The game ended with a 7-3 victory for Tokyo Mets, a social club team, against the Tokyo University team consisting of second and first-year students. After the game, I had lunch alone. I remembered there was a popular Italian restaurant within the University of Tokyo campus, so I decided to check it out. The distance from the Faculty of Agriculture, where the baseball field is located, to the iconic Akamon gate is quite far. I entered through the gate and walked straight ahead, then turned right at the mailbox and headed towards the "Medical Education Research Building" on the 13th floor. It was a Saturday, so the campus was quiet, but the restaurant was almost full. There was a private room in the back right, and a party was taking place in the back left. The counter seats in the front had a good view from the window, while the tables were in the front. When I told the female staff member that I was dining alone, she asked if I was okay with sitting at the counter, and I agreed. However, due to my lack of attention or perhaps my age, I followed the woman and ended up hitting my head on the slanted stone staircase leading to the 14th floor. It was quite painful. Despite feeling frustrated, I managed to control my emotions. I opted for the "Capo Course," limited to 10 meals for 1,290 yen. The course included appetizers, pasta, dessert, bread, and a drink. The appetizer was a salad with Parma ham, which was delicious. The pasta dish was crab and spinach in cream sauce, and it was very tasty. The dessert was a chocolate gateau, and I chose black tea for my drink. Considering the price, I was satisfied with the meal. The female staff member who led me to my seat earlier asked if my head was okay and offered a cold towel, but I declined as it was just a minor scratch. In the evening, they also offered a la carte options, and the dinner course started from 4,320 yen. The University of Tokyo Hongo Campus is vast, so it's recommended to research the location beforehand, but this casual Italian restaurant is worth a visit.
