This izakaya boasts delicious Satsuma cuisine and sake. The cozy underground floor setting allows smoking and only accepts cash payments. The recommended sashimi was very fresh, and all the dishes were very tasty!

I have visited this place several times. This time, I went with 4 work colleagues. The atmosphere is solemn yet retro and nostalgic, giving a sense of security. The owner kindly explains the menu, and his explanation is so good that you can't help but listen intently. We ordered Mitake and Ohara shochu, both of which were delicious. The food was also all delicious. It's hard to choose, but here are my personal top 3: 1) Chicken sashimi - fresh, fatty, and flavorful, it goes well with Kagoshima's sweet sashimi soy sauce. 2) Satsuma-age - surprisingly delicious, and it goes well with sashimi soy sauce too. It really goes well with the sake. 3) Cream cheese with Kagoshima barley miso - the barley miso has a unique flavor, and it also goes well with the sake. Above all, hearing the owner talk about Tomi-san from Kirishima was priceless. I will definitely go back.

There is a wide variety of sweet potato shochu available. I was able to relax in the calm atmosphere of the restaurant. The master recommended various types of shochu. The canned sweet potato highball had a strong sweet potato aroma and was delicious. Since it was our third stop, we didn't eat much food. I would like to try a variety of dishes next time.

We visited the fifth restaurant, which is run by a friend, and quickly ordered the "Bright Countryside" shochu. We also had deep-fried sweet potato and sand lance as snacks, which was a fantastic combination. The fact that we could drink "Bright Countryside" by the glass was great, as the nearby liquor store only sells it by the bottle. This restaurant seems to be a gathering place for theater troupe members, so the atmosphere was lively and enjoyable. Next time, I want to try a sweet potato shochu that I haven't had before at our first stop.

The set of three items including kibinago, tempura, and Satsuma local chicken sashimi is decent. The tempura is smaller than what you would get locally, and it lacks the freshly fried fluffy texture, which is a bit disappointing. The kibinago is also air-freighted, so you can feel the dedication. It felt a bit disappointing compared to the strong impression I had when I ate it in Kagoshima 25 years ago, but in Tokyo, I think it's top-level.

On the weekend, I went to Shinjuku for drinks. Today, I was invited by a friend to "Satsuma Ogojo" in Shinjuku. This restaurant is owned by Jun Akabane, the grandson of Tomoko Torihama, who was known as the mother of the special attack unit at Tomiya Shokudo. I listened to stories about the special attack unit from Jun Akabane and then enjoyed the food and drinks at Satsuma Ogojo. We started with a Kagoshima highball toast, made with the "Takarayama" from Nishi Shuzo. The dishes included edamame, Katsuo from Makurazaki, raw shishamo smelt, Satsuma agemono, Satsuma jidori chicken sashimi, Goya champuru, Katsuo belly skin, fried taro, assorted pickles, and grilled shishamo smelt. We enjoyed the delicious food with plenty of Kagoshima highball.

Shinjuku Sanchome. Visited after 2 years the Kagoshima local cuisine restaurant that carries on the flavors of Tome Torihama, the mother of the kamikaze pilots from Chiran, Kagoshima. Currently run by Tome-san's grandson, Mr. Akabane and his wife. The satsuma-age, fried chicken, and satsuma soup were the last meal enjoyed by the kamikaze squad members at Tome-san's Tomiya Shokudo the day before their mission. Especially, the satsuma soup, with the flavors of yuzu and ginger, left a lasting impression on my stomach and heart... ★Kagoshima Highball 660 yen ★Sashimi directly from Kagoshima 440 yen (half portion) ★Goya Champuru ★Seasonal! Limited time only! New onion and soy sauce koji 550 yen ★Satsuma soup 550 yen ★Appetizer 550 yen (tax included) Payment is cash only. The sashimi of kibinago is air-freighted daily from Kagoshima, even though they expect to operate at a loss. They also share stories passed down from Tome Torihama, the mother of the kamikaze pilots from Chiran, Kagoshima. A lovely couple. The shop is bustling with customers pouring in. The wife cooks alone and always has a smile on her face. They work together and spend 24 hours a day together at work and home. The husband says he is constantly healed by his wife and feels very happy. Lucky him \( ˆoˆ )/ I'm envious \( ˆoˆ )/ Located right near Isetan, in front of the vaudeville theater Suehirotei, please try the heartwarming satsuma soup once. I went to a local cuisine restaurant in Kagoshima. The old-fashioned interior allows smoking, which is rare these days. The menu focuses on Kagoshima cuisine, with dishes like kibinago that caught my eye. Since it was our second stop, we just had a few classic appetizers. The shochu came with hot water and a small cup, with a wide variety to choose from. We tried the popular Sangen, Minamino-kata, and Satsuma Godai sweet potato shochu. The food was delicious and it was a great place for a second round of drinks. Thank you for the meal!

I found this restaurant on my way back from errands. My friend was interested, so we decided to go in. The underground interior wasn't very spacious, but it had a cozy atmosphere. The best part was the friendly and polite service. We ordered the Kagoshima Highball (a highball made with special limited shochu "Takarayama"). It had a strong shochu flavor, but those who like it would enjoy it. We then ordered the daily sashimi, chicken sashimi, pork miso, fried pork cutlets, sweet potato tempura, a soup to finish, and stir-fried bitter melon and tofu. I forgot to take a picture of the menu, so I completely forgot what we ordered, but everything was delicious. Especially the daily sashimi and pork miso were outstanding. The pork miso was just miso mixed with pork on cabbage, but it was the perfect sake accompaniment. We also ordered shochu with hot water. It was served in a kettle, starting from 2 cups. Since we're not big drinkers, we were able to enjoy it until the end with this 2 cups of sake. For dessert, we ordered purple sweet potato pudding. It had a melt-in-your-mouth texture. Delicious! We ordered quite a few dishes, so I thought it would be a hefty bill, but it came to about 9,500 yen for two people. We didn't drink much, which worked in our favor. With the quality of the food, we felt that getting under 10,000 yen for two people was good value for money. I thought it was a hidden gem of a restaurant. [Rating] ★★★★★★★★★ 9/10 [Certified as a great restaurant!!!]

Thank you for the delicious meal! Kagomma! In the middle of Shinjuku Sanchome, Sakurajima is erupting haha. This restaurant has a great atmosphere and serves Kagoshima's local cuisine. The sashimi today was delicious - it was bonito. The chicken sashimi was also tasty. Today's home run was "tonkotsu". Tonkotsu? Ramen? No, it's not that. I've been in Kyushu for a long time but never tried this dish. The pork stew was so tender and flavorful, even the cartilage was delicious. Daikon radish, burdock root, konjac, all were amazing. The sweet seasoning goes well with shochu. Thank you for the meal.

On this day in October 2020, I had dinner at Shinjuku Sanchome. After enjoying shaved ice at "Himemura Yuki to Natsu," I found a nearby restaurant called "Satsuma Okojo." This restaurant was featured on TV shows like "Yoshida Rui's Sakaba Horoki" in May 2018 and "Nikinome Dousuru? ~Tsumami no Hanashi~" in September 2020. It serves Kagoshima's local cuisine, following the flavor of Tomi Hamamoto, the mother of Chiran's special attack squad members. The restaurant was bustling, with thorough measures in place for COVID-19 prevention. I had a Kagoshima highball, Ohara water, and Minamino-kata on the rocks while enjoying dishes like kibinago sashimi, tsukeage, butamiso, and more. The total bill was 6,210 yen. The food and drinks were delicious, but the smoking environment made me want to leave as soon as possible.

In Kagoshima Prefecture, there is a local cuisine restaurant that has been passed down through generations from the mother of a kamikaze pilot, Tome Torihama. Currently, it is run by her grandson and his wife. I had dishes such as raw kibinago, satsuma-age, fried local chicken, and satsuma soup. The satsuma-age, fried chicken, and satsuma soup were the last meal that the kamikaze squad had at Tome's Tomiya Restaurant before their mission. The flavor of the satsuma soup, with yuzu and ginger, really touched my heart and stomach. They also serve Kagoshima highball, tsukeage, genkotsu, raw kibinago, satsuma soup, and appetizers. They only accept cash payments. The raw kibinago is flown in daily from Kagoshima, even though it's a loss for them. It was my first time trying raw kibinago, and it was delicious. The story passed down from Tome Torihama about the kamikaze pilots is shared by the lovely couple who run the restaurant. Located near Isetan and the Endo Tei theater, I highly recommend trying the heartwarming satsuma soup. This place was also featured on the TV show "Yoshida Rui's Drinking Tour."

I went to this restaurant for the first time with a friend from Kagoshima. The food overall was on the sweeter side and had a strong flavor, which may be typical of Kagoshima cuisine. I was pleasantly surprised by how delicious the peanut tofu we randomly ordered was. It was a taste that I definitely want to experience again.

It is a shop located underground near Shinjuku Sanchome Station. The building is old, but it has a unique charm. We used it for a reunion of classmates from Kagoshima Prefecture. We were so engrossed in conversation that we ended up drinking only shochu, but there was a variety of Satsuma cuisine for snacks, with a simple and rustic feel. The owner's Satsuma dialect was also gentle on the ears, and we had a great time.

A restaurant where you can enjoy fresh kibinago and various Satsuma-style dishes. The atmosphere inside the restaurant is wonderful. I would love to go back again if it were a bit cheaper. We didn't get full enough, so we went to eat ramen with everyone afterwards. Visited in May 2019.

The atmosphere of the restaurant is great! The food is delicious, especially the homemade sweet potato tempura is amazing! They have a wide variety of drinks and can provide options based on your preferences, so I am satisfied. Just one thing! It would be even better if they had draft beer, but I still enjoyed the shochu so it's okay!

Entered the shop as the second choice. Immediately regretted not coming to the first option. When asked if it was my first time, I said yes and the owner explained the shop's specialties and seasonal items. The manager was very good at explaining. Saw raw sand lance for the first time. Ordered it with vinegar miso! The sweet potato tempura was different from what I've had in Tokyo. The new onion with barley miso was not spicy even when eaten raw! And of course, sweet potato shochu. They said they let the sweet potato shochu sit for a few days after diluting it with water, which makes it smoother to drink. Yes, it was very easy to drink. I will definitely make the first choice next time. The only concern is that, being cheap, the clientele might not be the best... Also, smoking is allowed at the table, so it can get quite smoky.
