Fried chicken bento box with soy sauce flavor, extra-large size (550 yen). I bought lunch for teleworking near Iwamotocho. There are many cheap bento shops around this area, befitting a business district. Today, I decided to try "Bento-ya in Higashi-Kanda" which had good reviews on Google. When I arrived around noon, there were a lot of pre-made bento boxes displayed outside the shop. The fried chicken bento I wanted was not among them, apparently they make it fresh when you order. The pre-made boxes are priced lower to cater to the "cheap and quick" demand, while the made-to-order ones are priced higher for those who want a hot meal, it seems. I asked the man at the shop for the soy sauce flavored fried chicken bento with extra rice. After a short wait, I received a heavy bag and paid with PayPay. Let's see what's inside. The rice was overflowing, probably around 350g instead of the usual 200g. And the fried chicken was huge! There were five pieces, each weighing around 80-100g. The side had plenty of spicy mayonnaise. It was a hardcore, hearty meal, perfect for laborers. I took a bite of the fried chicken, it was flavorful and the portion size was satisfying. The chicken was juicy with a firm texture, marinated in a strong soy sauce, ginger, and garlic mix. The coating was thick and crunchy, absorbing a lot of oil, making it quite heavy. The flavor was a bit one-dimensional, so dipping it in the generous amount of mayonnaise added a nice twist. Under the fried chicken, there was a side of stir-fried spaghetti with ham, onions, and bell peppers, seasoned with salt. The rice was well-cooked, not mushy, and there was a lot of it. To finish the meal, I used my secret weapon, Marumiya "Gomashio" seasoning. Despite feeling a bit greasy towards the end, I managed to finish the meal, feeling very full. I didn't feel hungry again until dinner. Overall, it was a hardcore, jumbo fried chicken bento from a great shop. Despite the excess oil, it was a good value for the price and quite tasty. I even got a stamp card for a free bento after collecting 10 stamps. I will definitely revisit for their delicious bowl dishes.
