I went in the morning this time because it was sold out in the afternoon last time! Finally got to buy it. The dumplings were big and chewy. The expiration date was the same day, and for the mitarashi flavor, it said to sprinkle seven-spice chili powder to taste, and a small packet of seven-spice was included. I didn't use the seven-spice, but it was delicious. It was a bit pricey.

It was a takeout shop specializing in elegant souvenirs, with a counter filled with various types of traditional Japanese rice cakes such as sweet bean, sweetened soybean, sweet soy sauce, and matcha flavors. I bought the sweet bean rice cake for myself and the sweet soy sauce rice cake as a gift for a friend. They also sold two types of syrup-like condiments, which seemed perfect for yogurt. Both rice cakes had to be consumed on the same day, so I enjoyed them as soon as I got home to avoid them becoming too hard in the fridge. They provided a small spatula-like tool to easily pick up the rice cakes, which was convenient. Although the paper bag cost extra, it was worth it as I had a lot of items to carry. It was great that I could purchase the rice cakes quickly at the counter without having to wait in line. I would love to buy rice cakes from here again when I visit Asakusa. Since the sweetened soybean flavor was sold out, I would consider going earlier next time.

For a souvenir from Asakusa, I recommend visiting Mitsuya on Nakamise Street. It may be a bit pricey, but their white rice cakes are incredibly soft and delicious! The sweet red bean paste and sweet soybean paste are also very flavorful and go perfectly with the rice cakes. My family was very happy with them. It was a great purchase!

I was curious about Mitsuya's shiratama tebako! The limited-time chestnut sweet bean paste was tempting, but I ended up buying mitarashi and zunda flavors. The packaging is white and beautiful, and the shiratama is chewy and delicious. Perfect for a souvenir! Personally, I thought the mitarashi flavor was delicious. I'd like to try other varieties as well.

I found a popular sweet shop "Mitsuya" while walking in Asakusa. This new store specializes in take-out. Mitsuya's shiratama and homemade syrup can be enjoyed at home, which is delightful. I purchased the "Shiratama Tebako" with three flavors: sweet red bean paste, matcha red bean paste, and edamame paste. The aromatic edamame paste was rich in flavor, and the shiratama was chewy and gently sweet, evoking a sense of summer. It was a delicious and heartwarming moment. This would make a great new souvenir from Asakusa.

When I visited Asakusa after a long time, I was drawn to a sign that looked similar to Akafuku. It featured a large white dumpling arranged in a square box with 9 pieces, filled with sweet bean paste, called "Shiratama Tamatebako" for 1,100 yen. It is only available for takeout. The white dumplings are made from the highest quality mochi rice from Saga Prefecture, ground with a stone mill. The chewy white dumplings have a strong elasticity and are paired with a smooth, fine bean paste. The sweetness is subtle, making it a very easy-to-eat, modern Japanese confectionery. It comes with black honey and a wooden spatula. Varieties include strawberry bean paste, cherry blossom bean paste, and sweetened soybean paste, each for 1,300 yen.

Mitarashi dango costs ¥1300. The expiration date is today. The shiratama is delicious, so I recommend trying a different flavor next time. The wait time is longer because the service is attentive to each customer.

I later found out that Mitsuya is a famous shop, but I stopped by because it caught my interest on Nakamise Street. I tried their traditional Japanese sweet called "Tamatebako." It had a chewy texture and I had the zunda flavor, which had a unique grainy texture from the edamame. It was delicious.
