During a business trip in Kyoto, after finishing the second meeting, I headed towards a sweets time. My companion found a tempting shop for me to visit in Kyoto, "KANRA Lounge in Hotel Kanra Kyoto". We made a reservation as they offered a unique cheesecake baked in a kiln resembling a burnt Basque cheesecake, along with coffee from Coyote Coffee. I had heard about Coyote Coffee before and was curious to try it. It was a delightful post-work indulgence, looking forward to it. The KANRA special baked cheesecake arrived, with its burnt surface resembling a Basque cheesecake. Despite its appearance, it was appetizing and tempting. The cheesecake was moist, creamy, and had a slight citrus acidity. It was quite large, and as I took a bite, I found it delicious, with a refreshing summer flavor. The texture and cheesiness were rich yet refreshing. The Coyote Coffee had a slightly coarse and powdery taste, with a noticeable acidity. Personally, I found the double acidity disappointing but overall, it was a delicious and enjoyable experience. I look forward to visiting again at a leisurely pace.

I found a lounge plan in a hotel called Hotel Kanra while looking for cafes in Kyoto. It seems like a luxurious hotel with a spacious and open atmosphere overlooking a garden. The dessert course, including a lovely parfait created by the chef patissier's sensibility using Kyoto's unique materials and seasonal ingredients, sets it apart from the usual afternoon tea sets. You can enjoy a variety of signature cocktails that express Hotel Kanra Kyoto's style in various ways during cocktail time in the evening, making it a great place for a date or a sophisticated adult space. It's a luxurious place where you can spend a special time feeling Kyoto. The seasonal parfait "European Pear x Ronnefeldt" combines the smooth texture of European pear and the fragrant tea from the German traditional tea brand Ronnefeldt. The beautifully cut European pear is so stunning that you would want to admire its beauty without eating it. The mature taste of the parfait has a gentle flavor that enhances the taste of the tea. It would surely be a great match with a glass of Dom Perignon, but I paired it with a cafe latte during the day. The parfait goes well with champagne, so I would definitely ask for champagne if it were nighttime. A limited quantity parfait "European Pear x Ronnefeldt" is available for 1,800 yen per person with one drink included, and reservations are required by 5:00 p.m. the day before. Operating days are Friday to Sunday and holidays from 12:00 to 18:00.

I went to Hotel Kanra Kyoto. Thanks to the start of the Go To Eat campaign, I was able to go there at a discounted price. This time, I booked the Seasonal Dessert Course with Afternoon Tea and Cafe Free (Renewal Price) plan through Ikkyu. The regular price was 3,500 yen but it was being sold on Ikkyu for 2,500 yen. I also used Ikkyu points for an instant 10% discount of 250 yen. Additionally, I am expecting a 1,000 yen cashback through the Go To campaign. As a result, the actual cost came to around 1,300 yen, which was quite a good deal. The nearby restaurants mostly required a minimum of two people for use. The Afternoon Tea included free-flowing drinks. The timing for the last dessert to be served was the last order. In the end, I had 4 drinks which would have cost around 2,400 yen if calculated at regular price. The dessert included Grape Carpaccio with black pepper cookies and yogurt bavarois, Apple Clafoutis with sweet potato sauce, Cassis Mont Blanc, and a selection of baked sweets. The drink menu was extensive with options like Lemonade Tea, Japanese tea, and herbal tea.

I visited this hotel lounge, which was recommended by a popular friend on Instagram, to celebrate my friend's birthday. We enjoyed an afternoon tea set, which changes monthly. This season, the set featured beautiful cherry blossom motifs. The food was elegantly presented with a subtle and delicate taste, in lovely traditional Japanese-style dishes. The staff kindly prepared a surprise birthday plate for my friend, who was delighted. We were able to relax without any time constraints. It was an afternoon tea experience that makes me want to come back every month.

The poetic name sweet called "Snowy Morning" is a simple snowflake patterned wagashi. When you bite into it, a soft and crispy texture reminiscent of stepping on snow, with a faint sesame fragrance, rises gently. The smooth red bean paste inside has an elegant sweetness. It's a cafe in a stylish hotel with a relaxed open atmosphere, offering elegant wagashi and tea. I think it's a hidden gem of a good restaurant.
Menu for this visit: Seasonal wagashi from Shioyoshiken with a drink set of houjicha (from Fushimi, Tsubosho) for 1000 yen per person during the day.
Enjoyment at this cafe: A refined Japanese cafe located within Hotel Kanra Kyoto.
Order: The seasonal wagashi set from Shioyoshiken, a Kyoto confectionery with over 130 years of history, for 1000 yen.

I had been curious about Kanra Lounge on Sunday. It is a lounge at Hotel Kanra. The location is good as it is on the north side of Higashi Honganji Temple. There is also a restaurant, so I wasn't sure if I was in the right place as I entered the hotel entrance. Upon opening the door, I saw the hotel lobby on the right and the lounge on the left. There were a few customers already there, including 5 or 6 Japanese ladies and a foreign couple. The furniture was spacious and well-arranged, offering a comfortable atmosphere. I chose a table near the window. My purpose for visiting was to try the seasonal sweets from Shioyoshiken for 1,000 yen. After ordering, the boxed Shioyoshiken sweets arrived, with three varieties to choose from. I decided on the "Oshima" which was made of brown sugar. For my drink, I chose hojicha from Tsubosou. The space was relaxing and the ambiance was pleasant. The voices of the other customers, mainly the Japanese ladies, did not echo strangely, making it a cozy environment. Soon, the hojicha and sweets arrived. The hojicha had a deep aroma and was delicious. The brown sugar sweet was surprisingly tasty. It had a unique texture that I had not experienced before with other traditional sweets. The combination of brown sugar and white bean paste created a flavor that was sweet but not overwhelming. It was soft and easy to eat. I savored it carefully. The hojicha from Tsubosou was also delightful with a lingering aftertaste that made me want to savor it more. The bill was settled at the table. The other items on the menu looked appealing as well, and considering its proximity to my workplace and the station, I would like to visit again. Thank you for the wonderful experience.

Kanra Lounge offers a morning set with caramel banana and citrus jam toast. They serve a dish using beautiful Shimizu pottery. The fusion of Japanese and urban styles can be seen in their cafe latte.

Weekend trip to Kyoto (●´ω`●) After finishing our sightseeing, we had made a reservation at a nearby cafe that we had researched in advance ♬*About the cafe*This is the cafe lounge at Hotel Kanra Kyoto. Even non-guests can use the cafe ♬ It is a 15-minute walk from Kyoto Station, just 1 minute from Exit 8 of Gojo Station. The entrance with a mix of Japanese and modern design immediately captivates the heart ♡ Passing through the bamboo grove, you are greeted by bright wood with white noren curtains (●´ω`●) Looking towards the hotel, you can see the lounge through a large glass window. Upon entering the hotel, the cafe lounge is on the left. A magnificent pine tree stands in the center, and the wooden stools create a very soothing atmosphere. Stylish tableware and miscellaneous goods are also displayed. The menu features items typical of Kyoto. I thought the prices were quite reasonable for a hotel lounge ♬ The alcohol selection is very extensive (´∀`) I was very drawn to the sake tasting set, but as I had a certain strategy planned for the evening, I opted for the organic herb tea (¥600). They brought me four types of tea leaves from Tamacha in Nishijin, Kyoto, and I made my selection ★ I chose the "Carefree Summer" blend, which was refreshing and perfect for the hot weather that day! The small sample of Nishikyo miso souffle cheesecake was surprisingly delicious (´∀`) (I'm not a fan of Japanese sweets, so I didn't try the rest, haha) It was a simple and stylish way to enjoy Kyoto and relax comfortably ◎ Definitely worth a visit for a short break ♬ Thank you for the lovely meal! (*^^*)
