The rampage of the novel coronavirus is worsening day by day, and Japan as a whole is engulfed in an abnormal sense of isolation! Despite this, my ramen restaurant tour continues, but I take precautions to minimize the risk of infection, such as avoiding shops near public transportation stations and not visiting shops with extremely low population density inside! Today, I headed to a ramen shop in Shibuya Ward that I had planned to visit before. The street where the shop is located is so narrow that cars cannot pass through, and the distance between pedestrians is less than 1m. Although the shop had a relatively large interior, there were many customers, so I decided to cancel today's visit. As a backup plan, I went to "Seiya Ikejiri Store," where there were no customers inside, as I had hoped. I ordered the default ramen for 700 yen and an additional seasoned egg for 100 yen using the ticket machine located on the right side upon entering. The shop has a unique layout with only counter seats arranged in an L shape. The staff, a middle-aged to elderly man, seemed surprised when I asked for the noodles to be cooked soft for 7 minutes instead of the standard 3.5 minutes. He mentioned that "Seiya" is slightly different from the typical family-style ramen, as indicated by the use of "屋" (ya) instead of "家" (ie) in the shop's name and the presence of only one sheet of seaweed instead of the usual three. When I mentioned my goal of visiting all Seiya-related stores, he informed me that there is a shop near Tamareien, which I was not aware of. He also mentioned that a shop in Itabashi had closed and relocated, now operating under the name "Maboroshi." The ramen, made with animal broth, had a delicious umami flavor that spread in my mouth, and the noodles cooked for 7 minutes were perfectly soft. The rice, priced at 150 yen, was served in a bowl larger than the typical size, unlike the one I had at the Yahatayama store earlier in the week. Despite the lack of options for extra rice or seaweed, the food was delicious and deserving of a 4.0 rating. This was my experience at "Seiya Ikejiri Store"!
