When I visited the area around the University of Tokyo, I took a break here. I visited on a weekday around 3 pm. The shop is located on the north side of the "Akamon" gate inside the University of Tokyo Hongo campus. There is an A-type sign at the entrance of the site, but it may not stand out. It is attached to the "University of Tokyo Graduate School of Information Science and Technology, Fukutake Hall". It is the southernmost part of the long building. It had a sharp and stylish exterior. The walls are glass, so you can see inside the shop. The interior is simple and clean. The high ceiling gives a sense of openness. There are about 15 tables for 2 people each inside. Additionally, there were about 10 tables for 3 people each on the terrace in front of the building. I was served by a female staff member who was friendly and efficient, leaving a very good impression. When I visited, there were two other groups of customers besides us. One group was two women in their late 20s, and the other was a young couple (possibly college students). Although this is located on a university campus, it can be used by anyone, not just university staff. It operates on a self-service basis, where you first place your order and pay at the counter in front. When your order is ready, you will be called to pick it up and return the trays yourself. The menu includes coffee, tea, other soft drinks, beer, glass wine, soft serve ice cream, sandwiches, and other light snacks. It was quite an attractive lineup. The prices were reasonable. When two of us visited, we both ordered "Craft Ginger Ale for 680 yen (including tax)". It was served promptly. The "Craft Ginger Ale" is served in a transparent plastic cup with a lid. A straw was inserted. It had a generous portion. It is made with homemade ginger syrup mixed with carbonated water. It was a light orange color and slightly cloudy. It contained cube ice and lemon wedges. It had a sharp taste with a spicy kick and a burst of ginger flavor. Later, a gentle sweetness followed. It was delicious... I drank it all in one go. It was a scorching hot day, but it instantly refreshed me. I really liked this "Craft Ginger Ale". Next time, I want to try the "Ginger Orange for 700 yen (including tax)" made with this ginger ale.

Last week, I spent a lot of money traveling from Izumo to Matsue, so I was planning to have a relaxing meal at home. However, I couldn't resist the allure of the autumn leaves season. My partner and I decided to visit two places: 1) Koishikawa Korakuen Garden (entrance fee 300 yen) - Autumn Leaves Festival (November 15th - December 5th) 2) The University of Tokyo (no entrance fee) - One of Tokyo's top 10 Ginkgo tree-lined streets. Koishikawa Korakuen Garden is one of the few early Edo period daimyo gardens, managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government, providing a peaceful atmosphere anytime you visit. Today, there was a special traditional craftsmanship exhibition, so it was a bit more crowded than usual. We got to watch the snow hanging (a method to prevent tree branches from breaking under snow in winter by tying them with ropes) on the pine trees in the garden, and also enjoyed the beautiful autumn leaves in Tokyo. We then walked to the main gate of the University of Tokyo for some exercise. It was almost lunchtime, and the scent of sesame oil tempted me at a few places, but I resisted the urge today. I'll have tempura another day. The University of Tokyo's Hongo campus boasts a vast area equivalent to 11 Tokyo Domes, but unfortunately, it was still too early to see the enchanting Ginkgo trees. Disappointed, we decided to take a break at a café inside the university. Today's order: - Cappuccino (P) 320 takeout - Espresso (P) 290 takeout Can you believe how cheap it is? My partner had a cappuccino, and I had an espresso. It made me realize that I haven't made coffee at home recently. I think I'll have another cup when I get home after my meal.

The direct-operated store of Ransuyanagidate in Aoyama. The taste at this price is truly amazing.

The drinks were plentiful and cheap. The club sandwich had a sauce with a hint of orange, which added a nice touch. It was midday and there was no one else there, so I was able to relax.

This is a cafe located inside the University of Tokyo campus. I ordered a caramel milk, which was a small size but had a generous amount. It was sweet and delicious. The space had a high ceiling, creating an open and airy atmosphere.

A cafe located inside the University of Tokyo campus. It's not too crowded at certain times, so you can relax and cool off. The quantity and taste are great for the price. I felt a little smarter after spending time there.

Located on the first floor of the Fukutake Hall on the Hongo campus of the University of Tokyo, this self-service cafe focuses on takeout options. While it is on campus, it offers a variety of light meals such as sandwiches, pasta, and sweets. The drink menu is diverse, with different sizes available, and they also serve alcohol. The hall, which was completed in 2008 and designed by Tadao Ando, features a chic interior that is a standout part of the building. The high ceilings and large glass windows create an open and spacious atmosphere. The stylish logo and cup design in shades of red add to the overall aesthetic. It is a hidden gem cafe where both students and the general public can enjoy.

This is a stylish café at the University of Tokyo. The building was designed by Tadao Ando. Next to it, there is a shop selling University of Tokyo merchandise. Today, I am here for an afternoon tea break. I ordered an iced coffee and the University of Tokyo-developed functional food "KenQ's Room Yogurt". This yogurt is said to boost immunity. It's a bit pricier compared to RF-1, but it tastes better. It has a flavor that children would probably like. The iced coffee is also quite pricey. It's not a functional food like the yogurt, but it's expensive (laughs).

I went to UTCafe BERTHOLLET Rouge on the 1st floor of Fukutake Hall on the Hongo campus to pass the time before my afternoon meeting. I purchased a medium-sized iced coffee for 350 yen and found a seat. There were many female customers and the high ceiling created a nice atmosphere. Next time, I might try having lunch here. Thank you for the meal!

When I'm at the University of Tokyo, I feel like my intelligence is improving, so I've recently been on a University of Tokyo exploration kick based on this groundless belief. And what I found was this cafe. The exterior looked stylish, so I nervously walked in, only to discover that it was actually a cafe that mainly focuses on takeout. However, the customers all seemed classy and smart-looking. Maybe it's just my preconception (laughs). The menu was similar to a regular cafe, but then, there it was! A menu unique to the University of Tokyo! The "Kenkyushitsu Yogurt"! This yogurt supposedly contains a new potential lactobacillus strain developed in Professor Sekimizu's pharmaceutical research lab at the University of Tokyo. I didn't quite understand it, but it gave me the University of Tokyo vibe I was looking for (laughs). Of course, I bought it. I tried it, and it tasted delicious as expected. I wonder if there will be any changes if I keep eating it. It cost 140 yen including tax. They also have some elaborate lunch options, so I definitely want to go back.

Tokyo sightseeing, it was hot and I got a little tired from walking so I took a break here♪ A girly Rouge Parfait♪ It looks cute and the portion is huge! It seems like it's high in calories too! It's a very stylish cafe with a girly design. However, the air conditioning was too strong>< It's nice that they provide blankets and such but it was a bit too much. There were male customers who seemed to be in the middle of business negotiations, maybe it's because there are a lot of businessmen like that...? It was past 3 pm on a weekday but we were able to get in smoothly, it was a relaxing cafe♪

Today, I went to help with research at the University of Tokyo. It was my first time entering from the Akamon gate. After finishing the work, I started to get hungry, so I had lunch at this café near the Akamon gate. I only had the image of a cafeteria, but it was actually quite a stylish café. The atmosphere was very nice. However, the lunch plate was priced at 1,080 yen, which was not what I expected from a university cafeteria. The duck meat lunch plate I ordered was indeed delicious with hot and juicy duck meat. Although it's understandable since it's on a school campus, the service of paying in advance, being called by a number tag, and returning the meal plate afterwards didn't seem to match the price... There were many customers from outside the school using the café.

I had lunch at UT Cafe, which is located very close to the Akamon (Red Gate). There was a security guard next to the gate, which made my family a bit nervous when entering, but once inside, we saw groups of students and other visitors, so we felt safe. I ordered the pork tomato stew and cream pasta lunch plate. The tomato stew had a bit of a mature taste due to the spices used, which was not really suited for those with a childlike palate in my family. The cream pasta, on the other hand, was delicious. It might be a bit lacking in portion size for big eaters. I actually wanted to have cake, but they didn't have any, so I ended up splurging a bit on a parfait. It was made with creamy soft serve ice cream and was quite tasty. There is also a souvenir shop nearby with the University of Tokyo brand, so it might be worth visiting for sightseeing purposes.

There are various shops invited inside the University of Tokyo campus now. Among them, the best choice for lunch would be here. The taste is consistent and quite delicious. It is self-service, so you won't be disappointed by poor service (unlike a certain Camellia shop on the opposite side of the Akamon gate). The set meal with a drink is basically 1,000 yen. The daily options are usually between a rice dish or pasta. Personally, I highly recommend the chicken confit. The pork beer stew is also a classic. The portion size is decent, so even young people should be satisfied. During lunchtime, it is bustling with students, nearby housewives, families with children, etc. If it's not raining or in harsh winter, eating outside on the terrace is refreshing and nice (they provide heaters outside in winter). By the way, for dinner, I recommend the bar behind the Faculty of Agriculture. Update in 2013: At one point, a stern-looking lady started managing this shop. Her tone was harsh when taking orders or serving dishes at the counter, almost like giving orders rather than customer service. It was off-putting, so I avoided going for a while. When I went back for another reason, I noticed that the stern lady was no longer there, so now I go occasionally without worries. It was an episode that made me realize how important staff members are. I hope that lady doesn't come back.

Located just inside the Akamon (Red Gate) of the Hongo Campus, this café is a collaboration between the University of Tokyo and VELTRA. The interior has a simple, stylish atmosphere with concrete walls. I tried the chicken fricassee for lunch. The chicken was a bit bland and the rice felt a bit plain. The salad was decent though. The set came with a drink for 1,000 yen, which is okay in terms of cost performance. It's a nice café to relax and have tea on campus. The terrace also looks inviting.

UTcafe BERTHOLLETRouge's Premium Milk Soft Serve Theme: Soft Serve Ice Cream Located inside the University of Tokyo, UTcafe BERTHOLLETRouge is a stylish cafe just to the left after entering the Akamon gate. It is the sister store of the restaurant L'ANCE YANAGIDATE. The premium milk soft serve costs 340 yen (although the menu on the website shows 300 yen). The cup is large and generously filled with cornflakes. The milk soft serve has a clean and pleasant milky aroma, with a subtle sweetness and a rounded sweetness reminiscent of condensed milk. It was so delicious that I wanted more, especially considering the university cafe setting where a bit more quantity would be nice. I had already been to Ginko Shokudo, so I couldn't shake off the cafeteria vibe. Overall, it was a very tasty treat. Thank you for the meal. It's been a while since I visited the University of Tokyo's Hongo campus. I went to visit a professor's research lab with my colleagues to announce my discharge from the hospital and return to society. The atmosphere here is really nice. Although all my colleagues are graduates of national universities, unfortunately, none of them are from the University of Tokyo. Since we were here, we decided to do a little sightseeing at the University of Tokyo. One of the most popular spots now is the Chuta Ando-designed Information Studies Building, Fukutake Hall. It's the ultimate modern architecture with concrete and glass, featuring Ando's signature 100-meter concrete wall. It's refreshing to see students walking around, contemplating the future of Japanese cities. Just next to the iconic Akamon gate is the UT Cafe Beltré Rouge. While the Starbucks on the other side near the main gate seems more popular as a cafe, this cafe is also worth a visit. The cafe is produced by Chef Yanagida, who also runs Le Cafe Beltré near Omotesando Hills designed by Ando. However, this cafe is quite ordinary, almost like a Starbucks. The prices are similar too. Unfortunately, the champagne scent of Lancelot Yanagida doesn't come through at all. Espresso - P 290 yen, Cafe Mocha - P 380 yen, Tea - M 330 yen, all prices are on par with Starbucks. Just as lunch was starting, about three groups of people came in. Being right in front of the Akamon gate, close to the station, this cafe is the number one choice for convenience at the University of Tokyo. Additionally, there is a store next door selling original University of Tokyo merchandise, which could be a fun topic of conversation.

I visited the University of Tokyo's Hongo campus to meet a former colleague who works there. After enjoying the famous Akamon Ramen at the university cafeteria, we decided to have tea at a stylish café called "UTcafe." The café is located in a corner of the newly built Fukuwa Hall in the Information Studies Building near Akamon. The building itself, designed by Tadao Ando, is striking with its glass exterior. The café, designed by Kenya Hara, an advisor for MUJI, and operated by chef Isao Yanagitachi of Aoyama's "Lukafe Berutore," offers a luxurious experience unique to the University of Tokyo. The café has 24 indoor seats and 24 outdoor open-air seats. I ordered a hot UT Blend Coffee for ¥280, which came in a simple and stylish red body with a black lid. They also sell tumblers with the same design, tempting me to make an impulse purchase. While there are chain cafes like Starbucks and Doutor on the Hongo campus, UTcafe stands out for its collaboration with the university and its exclusive offerings. Enjoying coffee in a stylish cup while admiring Tadao Ando's design creates an academic atmosphere that is truly unique to the University of Tokyo.

UTcafe inside the University of Tokyo campus is surrounded by greenery, making it a very pleasant spot for outdoor lunch during this season. However, be aware that if you arrive after 12:10 pm on weekdays, you may struggle to find a seat. The lunch menu offers both pasta and rice options, but the taste is quite average (although the salad dressing is a bit sour). The dessert selection is satisfying, especially for female customers. The service, on the other hand, leaves much to be desired. The staff, all students, seem inexperienced and their speed and efficiency are lacking. Despite having six people in the small kitchen during lunchtime, the dishes take longer than expected to be served. Patience is required when placing an order and waiting for it to be prepared. Overall, UTcafe provides a relaxing lunch experience in the heart of Tokyo, surrounded by nature.
