This is a long-established okonomiyaki restaurant located behind Dogenzaka. I visited on a Saturday and it wasn't crowded, so I could relax and enjoy my drink. I toasted with a bottle of beer. The walls were adorned with old photos and posters of Dogenzaka, giving a glimpse into the history of the restaurant. I was impressed by the complimentary salted pork belly that was served. The okonomiyaki was also delicious! I would love to visit again. Thank you for the meal!

I have been exploring restaurants in Shibuya for a long time, and I may have finally found my favorite spot – a teppanyaki restaurant called "Taruya"! First of all, the restaurant has an amazing history of over ninety years, which adds to its charm. The atmosphere inside is filled with a nostalgic vibe, complemented by the soothing jazz music playing in the background. The decor includes many jazz posters, creating a perfect fusion of old-school teppanyaki and jazz. The food is consistently delicious, offering a wide variety of izakaya menu items. The staff is also very friendly and welcoming. If you're not a fan of retro vibes, this place may not be for you, but personally, I think it's the most comfortable dining spot in Shibuya!

I always play around in Shibuya, but I recently discovered a very charming restaurant that I don't usually visit. It's a retro teppanyaki restaurant called "Taruya" located in the heart of the so-called hundred stores area. It feels like time has stopped in that place. Despite being established in the Showa era, there are many young customers inside, which gives the impression that they have managed to adapt well with the times. The food is not exceptionally delicious, but it has a stable and satisfying taste that would make you want to visit again if it were nearby. The service for grilling meat is amazing. The staff are friendly, and I highly recommend experiencing the atmosphere of this jazz-oriented restaurant.

Okonomiyaki restaurant on Dogenzaka! In addition to okonomiyaki, they also have monjayaki and a variety of otsumami dishes! Although it's an okonomiyaki restaurant, I recommend going there with an izakaya-like feeling. I ordered the mentaiko monja. I also ordered various otsumami dishes to go along with my drinks. The beef tendon stew is popular, but unfortunately I was too full to order it this time. I'll make sure to order it first next time! Surprisingly, jazz music is playing in the background, and the interior is more spacious than it looks from the outside, with tatami seating available. The fourth-generation owner is friendly and kind. Established in 1931, the retro atmosphere is not forced, creating a cozy space. I hope they reach their 100th anniversary!

In the retro shop Taruya at Shibuya Maruyamacho, you can experience the forefront of the retro boom. A shop aiming to reach 100 years right in the heart of Shibuya. The interior is homey and full of character, suitable for families, dates, or work meetings. The retro refrigerator adds to the charm, and gals love taking photos here. Enjoy eel liver, okonomiyaki, and drinks with added MSG for flavor enhancement. The retro atmosphere and taste are wonderful. Conversations flow easily as you drink, surrounded by jazz music and black-and-white photos inside. The staff, especially the young proprietress, provide excellent service. This stylish shop has been serving quality meat since its establishment, continuing its tradition for 92 years. It's a place with a history that cannot be fully captured by a 3.20 rating. Perhaps this is the kind of shop that will continue to thrive till the end. It was a wonderful experience, and I look forward to visiting the next shop.

This time, I visited a shop that I thought I had passed by many times before, but surprisingly had never been to, in a series of deep spots in Maruyama-cho. "Taruya" is highly recommended! First of all, the shock of being founded in Showa 6 (1931) is enough reason to go there in my opinion. The 4th generation female owner is very friendly and easy to talk to, the interior is unexpectedly jazz-oriented, and the list of good points goes on and on. The yakiniku they serve as a service is too generous to the point of being scary. The monja-yaki cooked on the seasoned iron plate is delicious, but what's most important is the atmosphere, which explains why they still have customers even in these times. It's a place I want to visit again when various restrictions are lifted.

This restaurant has a huge gap between its exterior image and interior atmosphere. Inside, you'll find photos of old Shibuya from the early Showa era, with jazz music playing in the background. They serve okonomiyaki, monjayaki, and yakiniku, and I've been going there occasionally for a while now. I love the ambiance of the place.

The cost performance is good, the atmosphere is nice, and it's not too noisy which is great. Jazz music was playing inside. It was enjoyable to cook the food ourselves. The landlady was always ready to take orders, very kind, and the service was quick. The customer service was also very good. 2 people for ¥8800.

This shop seems to have been around for a long time, and while many long-established shops lack hospitality, this one was very friendly. The food was delicious, the service was great, and overall it was a wonderful experience. Despite being located in a love hotel district, there were many salarymen and elderly people dining there. I made a reservation, but there were also a couple of groups who were able to walk in without one. I definitely want to come back. The meat was served with a tasty salt sauce and the cabbage with meat was delicious.

A long-established restaurant that has been in business for 89 years at the Hyakken-ten in Shibuya. The nostalgic atmosphere of the Showa era fills the interior, and for some reason, jazz music plays. If you feel like eating okonomiyaki, this is the place to go!

I had a drinking party in Shibuya until morning. I got lost in Dogenzaka while walking around as I still don't know the area well, and stumbled upon a shop with a sign saying "Established in 1931." Despite not knowing much about it, I decided to go in. Surprisingly, there were no customers at the time. I ordered a large bottle of beer for 750 yen and opted for a set menu to play it safe. The set included beef tendon stew, wagyu harami, monjayaki, okonomiyaki, and potato salad. The portions were enough for 3-4 people. The potato salad was ordinary, but the beef tendon stew was delicious with a light salt base. The meats were decent, and the okonomiyaki was filled with pork, octopus, shrimp, and squid. The monjayaki had mentaiko but lacked flavor in the base. The restaurant had a retro feel, but also felt a bit outdated. Overall, if the prices were lowered, it might attract more customers for a revisit. Thank you for the meal.

When our company was newly established, we used to gather at this restaurant with the original members for drinks! It's a place known for its monjayaki, okonomiyaki, and teppanyaki. It seems to be a popular spot for post-live show gatherings. It's quite nostalgic to eat okonomiyaki with the members from my Osaka days in Shibuya. The beef tendon stew is a favorite. The beef tendon in the soup-like broth was delicious! The okonomiyaki also had a warm and nostalgic deliciousness to it.

Today, I decided to go back here because I had a birthday coupon.☆DrinkKirin Ichiban Shibori Large BottleThe Showa Maru Secret Sour Beer is chilled! Even if it's not fresh, it's delicious as long as it's chilled! The Showa sour has liqueur in it, giving it a mysterious taste.☆AppetizerMenma (seasoned bamboo shoots)It's sprinkled with green onions, giving it a kick.☆CouponBeef Tendon StewEven if you don't have a coupon, you can get a service if you can prove it's your birthday. The beef tendon stew has a sudden bonito broth after drinking the soup. Beef tendons and bonito broth, what a Japanese feel to it.☆DishHeart and NeckMeat is salted for heart, and seasoned for neck. The meat is just average. Even though it's a okonomiyaki restaurant, I only ordered yakiniku. Since it's an okonomiyaki restaurant, there are no tongs. I tried grilling it with a spatula.

I had been curious about this restaurant for a while! It has been in business for 100 years!? A friend recommended it to me, saying it's better than the average yakiniku (Japanese BBQ) place, so we made a reservation and went. When we entered the restaurant, there were only about three groups of people, so it wasn't too crowded. Although it's a okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancake) restaurant, we ordered pork, harami (skirt steak), kashira (pork cheek), wagyu hormone, Japanese-style salad, and okonomiyaki. The yakiniku was not bad, but it didn't leave a strong impression. Considering the cost performance, it was okay. For the okonomiyaki, you can choose from various toppings. Since I wasn't sure, I asked the staff, and they brought me a seafood mix. Thank you. But I was expecting pork mix. The only drink available was bottled beer, and it tasted delicious! Overall, the food was not bad, but I was slightly disappointed due to my high expectations. If you're looking for a casual izakaya (Japanese pub) vibe, it's worth a visit next time.
