I visited Nikki Cafe in Hongo Sancho-me. It is a casual cafe perfect for everyday use. I had the Hongo specialty Hongo Apple Pie and iced coffee. They also have food menus, so it seems suitable for lunch or dinner use as well. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I was in a hurry to attend a lecture at the Yasuda Auditorium at the University of Tokyo, but I couldn't resist getting a pretzel to go. When I bought it, I was surprised by how hot it was. It's big and quite surprising. Inside, there is cream cheese, which is sweet and surprising again. It's a mysterious shop.

I visited this place near Hongo-sanchome Station. The background music in the store is piano jazz. I was a little bothered by the greasy tables. I ordered an "Iced Coffee" which was served promptly. The coffee was just average.

Today, I visited the charming cafe "Nikki Cafe." Located about a 5-minute walk from the University of Tokyo, this cafe is loved by students. They sell giant German-style pretzels at the storefront, which catch your eye. Since it was after dinner, I only ordered a drink and enjoyed reading a book. After a while, I heard a cat's voice. A lovely cat welcomed me. It was friendly and didn't mind being petted at all. It was a heartwarming break in between my research. I highly recommend University of Tokyo students to visit this cafe at least once.

Today, I had the white pasta at a restaurant that offers two types of daily pasta dishes and two types of daily curry dishes. The pasta dishes are usually either with white sauce or red sauce. I enjoyed the white pasta slowly and thought it was good.

Today, I ordered the daily curry rice for takeout and brought it back to my workplace. The restaurant offers takeout for food and drinks. The daily curry was a chicken curry with boiled eggs. It had a rich flavor and was a delicious meal to enjoy.

I visited the restaurant with my coworkers for lunch. My coworkers had seafood curry rice, while I had katsu curry. They said it was delicious after taking a bite, which made me happy. We were able to enjoy our lunch leisurely.

I enjoyed a delicious curry rice and pasta. The katsu curry was just right, with the perfectly cooked half-boiled egg on top and the crispy katsu. After the meal, I had a cake, and I appreciated being able to carefully choose which one to have. I paired it with some tea or coffee.

Next to Starbucks, there is a quaint cafe with a retro Showa era atmosphere. I was drawn to the cream cheese pretzels displayed at the storefront! It seems that you can only order them as a single item for takeout, as you can't dine in the store. I decided to take it to go. Unfortunately, by the time I got around to eating it, it had cooled down because it was cold outside... It tasted like honey, maybe? The naturally sweet cream cheese was delicious. I wish I had eaten it when it was still hot and fluffy! The pretzel dough was soft and easy to eat.

Visited around 4 pm on a weekday to try the Mont Blanc and coffee set. It was a bit dark from the outside, making it hard to tell if they were open. Inside, there was a display case with cakes, 3 two-seater tables, 5 four-seater tables, a semi-private two-seater table in the back, and 2 tables on the terrace. There were 2 groups of customers already there. Ordered the Mont Blanc Imperial, but they were out, so got the Mont Blanc and hot coffee set instead. It was served in about 3 minutes. The coffee came in a cup about 10 cm tall, with a slight hint of bitterness and acidity. The Mont Blanc had a slightly firm outer chestnut cream, with a mellow taste of chestnut and just the right amount of sweetness. Inside, there was milk cream.

The day before yesterday in the evening, I revisited "NIKKICafe". It's the restaurant I introduced in the article on the 18th where I had lunch. This time, I bought some cakes to take home. I got an apple pie and a sweet pretzel (see photo). When I got home, I brewed some tea and ate them, and let me tell you, the quality was top-notch! The apple pie had a perfect balance between the apple filling and the pie crust, and the pretzel, which was sweet instead of salty, was a completely new taste experience! Especially the pretzel, there was a display in front of the store for it, and it's a unique taste that you won't find anywhere else. It's definitely worth trying at least once. I paid using the PayPay campaign in Bunkyo Ward, so instead of the regular price of ¥840, I got ¥252 back in points, making it effectively ¥588... at this price, I think it's quite affordable considering the quality. I highly recommend it, especially for PayPay users. That's all.

Yesterday's lunch was at a cafe called "NIKKICafe." It's a stylish-looking place located on the first floor of a building near the main gate of the University of Tokyo in Hongo (see photo 1). The menu for lunch was displayed outside the shop (see photo 2). We arrived a little before 12 o'clock... The interior of the shop had more of a cake shop vibe, with the eating area set up like an eat-in corner. Most of the customers were women, which seemed to match the shop's style. I ordered the "daily curry" drink set for ¥950. The drink options included coffee, black tea, and two types of herbal tea. The food arrived after about 5 minutes (see photo 3). The curry had a high quality taste, not like your usual commercial curry but made from scratch. The coffee was decent as well, seemed like they brewed it properly. I paid with PayPay and received 285 points back due to a PayPay campaign in Bunkyo Ward, so I ended up paying ¥665 for the meal. Next time, I might try the spaghetti.

Located near Hongo-sanchome Station and just a short walk from the main gate of the University of Tokyo, this restaurant has been a long-standing establishment in the Hongo 4-chome area, where there has been a lot of turnover in recent years. You can enjoy pasta or curry rice for less than 1000 yen. It's also a good idea to order coffee or beer on the side. While there used to be a famous curry restaurant called Petit F in the area, it is no longer there. As of 2021, one of the best places to enjoy delicious curry rice in the Hongo 3-chome area is Nikki Cafe. My colleagues recommend the pork cutlet curry, but I personally prefer the daily pasta specials. I like to match my sauce choice with the color of my clothes - white sauce when wearing white, and red sauce when wearing black.

I went to Nikki Cafe for a meeting with my teacher. The interior of the cafe was slightly dim with downlights, and there were about 5 or 6 tables. I noticed their specialty, the "Hongou Apple Pie" (521 yen), on the menu and decided to order it along with an iced coffee (280 yen). They served the warm apple pie after I placed my order. The pie had a slightly soft crust with a small amount of custard and plenty of apples. The cinnamon flavor was not overpowering, allowing the ingredients to shine. The coffee was a bit bitter, complementing the cake well. The calm atmosphere allowed for a productive meeting. At the table next to me, a student was hoping their paper would be accepted. It reminded me of the atmosphere of a college town, which I had almost forgotten. It's nice to experience that once in a while. I sincerely wish success for the young researchers. Thank you for the meal.

Today's lunch is at NIKKICafe in Hongo San-chome, Tokyo. It's my second day on a business trip. Tokyo, a big city. Surprisingly, there are not many places to eat. Or maybe I just can't find them?? I had this for lunch: Weekly Curry (890 yen). I had curry two days ago, and now I'm having it again... This week's special is "Summer Seasonal Vegetable (okra, eggplant, cherry tomatoes) and Shimeji Indian-style spice Summer Vegetable Beef Curry". Something seems off in the Japanese description, right?? After a short wait, it arrived!! Oh, even though it's a cafe, this curry looks more like something from a Western-style restaurant. European curry?? Let's dig in... Enlarged!! Mmm, delicious. The flavor is more like a cafe-style curry. Honestly, it doesn't taste like a spice-infused curry. But it really goes well with the summer vegetables... tasty. The cherry tomatoes are doing a great job as a palate cleanser. I forgot to take a picture of the coffee after the meal... Menu 1 Menu 2 Oh, they even have curry udon. Storefront. Restaurant Details: 4-1-5 Hongo, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo 113-0033 tel: 03-6801-6105 Business Hours: 08:00-22:00 (Mon-Sat) 11:00-19:00 (Sun)

This is a cafe located a short walk from Hongo-Sanchome Station. I had lunch there and also got some items to go. It's situated slightly off the main Hongo Street, so it has a calm atmosphere. There is a cute resident cat there. The lunch menu includes daily spaghetti and weekly curry options, and after some consideration, I chose the smoked salmon and asparagus cream spaghetti. The cream sauce was light and slightly spicy. It had a homely and nostalgic taste to it. I also bought their famous cream cheese-filled pretzel and cakes (apple pie, souffle cheesecake) as souvenirs for my family. They were all delicious. I plan to try their curry next time. Thank you for the meal.

Gin is a cute cat who was rescued by the owner when he was about to starve to death on the University of Tokyo campus. The owner showed me a bath towel with Gin's picture when I asked. Gin stays inside the counter bed or outside, so even people with cat allergies can relax. The drinks and curry are delicious and reasonably priced.

I started having lunch in Hongo 3-chome. Until now, I had visited places near Koishikawa and Yushima frequently, but this might be my first time using Hongo 3-chome, which is like an intermediate point. The area is divided into two sides: the student side with the University of Tokyo and the business side with the station, with a mix of interesting shops that have been popular for a long time. This time, I decided to visit "Nikki Cafe" located right in the middle of this area. The cafe has a stylish atmosphere, closer to a coffee shop than a bakery cafe. They have a popcorn-like pretzel machine outside, so I initially thought it was a bakery cafe, but they also have a cake showcase at the entrance, offering a variety of items. Takeout is available, and it's easy for women to enter, which is convenient. It's nice that you can buy both bread and cake at a cafe. I noticed there were many older men at the cafe, and I wondered if smoking was allowed on the terrace (I'm not sure about this). With both terrace and indoor seating available, the cafe has a small but deep layout, which is great. One of its strengths is that it is open from 8 am to 10 pm, unlike many other places that end lunch service by 2 pm. They offer regular and lunch menus, with daily and weekly specials like creative pasta and curry for around 800 yen. I ordered curry udon and the daily pasta with a colleague. The pasta and curry had a slightly unusual twist, which was appealing. The service might be a bit slow depending on the customer flow (the curry udon took a while, and they came to confirm), but the dishes were simple and tasty. The pasta with diced bacon, fresh basil, and cherry tomatoes looked delicious, with Tabasco and grated cheese adding a nice touch. The noodles were soft and hot, so it might have been better to let them cool a bit before eating. The acidity and heat were more prominent than the flavor, so I wish the sauce and noodles had blended more. I would like to visit again for a cafe experience next time.

After a long time, I had some business at the University of Tokyo in the morning, and it ended earlier than expected, around 2 pm. I was planning to stop by Ammonite on my way back, but I was surprisingly hungry, so I wanted to have a hearty meal. As I walked towards Honjo-sanchome station, I noticed a sign for Nikki Cafe's lunch menu near the Starbucks at the Honjo-sanchome intersection. The prices looked reasonable and the food seemed delicious, so I decided to go there since the place was not crowded. I ordered the Green Asparagus, Kumamoto Eggplant, Beef, and Onion Curry with plenty of vegetables (740 yen including tax). I opted for the drink set (coffee, tea, rose hip, chamomile - hot or iced) for an additional 100 yen (including tax) and chose the iced chamomile tea. The chamomile tea was served promptly, followed by the curry which was also served without much wait. The curry was very hearty with lots of ingredients. The curry sauce was similar to homemade curry rice. The eggplant and onion were plentiful, especially the juicy onions had a satisfying crunch. I thought there was more sauce than rice, but the amount was just right to go with the rice. I finished the nostalgic curry rice in no time. The staff also had a welcoming attitude, making the atmosphere very pleasant. I was torn between the Spring Vegetable and Local Chicken Tomato Curry, so I definitely want to try that next time I visit! Thank you for the delicious meal! ◎

Located about 50 meters north from the intersection of Hongo 3-chome. A cafe that opened in 2011. It has a glass exterior with a terrace seating area. The interior is bright and has a calm atmosphere typical of a cafe. The service is handled by male staff, likely students. The lunch menu includes daily spaghetti, weekly curry, sandwiches, curry udon, and more. I ordered the weekly curry with green asparagus, Kumamoto eggplant, beef, and onion. The curry was full of ingredients and had a rich European-style sauce that was flavorful and mildly spicy. This cafe offers a variety of curries and pastas with plenty of ingredients to enjoy.
