On the 7th day of commuting to Chofu, I decided to have lunch at Nakau. The nearby restaurants were crowded and I didn't have time to wait in line. I remembered this place from my days working in Komae, it had been a while. I ordered a small portion of fried tofu and leek and egg rice bowl with fox udon. I bought the food ticket and found a seat at the counter. The food arrived in about 2-3 minutes. The sauce for the bowl was just right, not too strong, just the way I like it. I was happy to see such menu options. Since it was fried tofu instead of meat, my stomach didn't feel heavy, and I could satisfy my craving for udon. It was a nice combination. I was able to eat without rushing during my short lunch break. Thank you for the meal.

After passing 12 midnight on a regular day, I made a daring move to have katsudon at Nakau after visiting Kushi Katsu Tanaka Chofu branch. Just how much do I love fried food? The katsudon cost 590 yen and it was topped with sweet sauce and egg. The crispy texture of the katsu was delightful. The egg was a mix of white and yellow. Late-night katsudon suits this quality well. With its 24-hour operation, it is reliable. Since CoCo Ichibanya Keio Chofu Station North Exit branch closes at 11 p.m., after a night out, this place or Matsuya Chofu Ekimae branch is my lifeline in the Chofu Station area late-night scene.

I had a katsudon for around 500 yen. It's my usual late-night katsudon on weekends at 1 am. The egg on top is nicely cooked with a red yolk that's still runny, so satisfying. The portion of rice is quite generous, so I always regret it the next morning, but the momentary pleasure is irresistible. The katsu is not too thick but large, which is great. In my mind, it's already recognized as a katsudon or katsu curry shop, but I vaguely understand that it's actually a gyudon shop. It's been a while since I had gyudon at Yoshinoya, so maybe next time I'll have that (even though I'm eating katsu something now, haha). May 2025 - Late-night katsudon again, 540 yen. September 2022 - Indulging in a late-night katsudon. November 2022 - The sinful late-night katsudon.

Although it is differentiated, in terms of price and taste, it may not be as good as other gyudon chains. I always end up ordering the seasonal limited menu item "Sudachi Oroshi Udon" because I'm weak against limited items. The udon is not bad, but it lacks volume and leaves me unsatisfied. The restaurant has box seats which are nice for a relaxing meal. Sometimes they give out discount coupons, so using those can make it more cost-effective.

I visited Nakau for lunch after a long time on July 19, 2022. I arrived around 11 am and there were no other customers. I ordered a seafood bowl and a small size "hai-kara" udon. The food arrived in about 3-4 minutes. I wanted to eat a seafood bowl, and since I was quite hungry, I decided to also get the hai-kara udon. The seafood bowl had diced seaweed and kinshi tamago on top, with tuna, shirasu, dried squid, and salmon on top, along with green onions. I added some wasabi soy sauce on top. The ingredients were bite-sized and it looked like a scattered sushi. The freshness of the seafood was good, but the soy sauce on the table was a bit sweet and thin. Overall, the seafood bowl was satisfactory.

【After several years, Nakau】I went to Nakau for the first time in several years, so long that I can't remember when was the last time. When it comes to the image of Nakau, it's more of a bowl restaurant rather than just a beef bowl place. That's why this time I chose the oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl). 【Oyakodon】The oyakodon here comes with a side salad and soup. It's a regular oyakodon that you can enjoy without any standout features or edgy twists. It's simply a delicious dish that would appeal to most people.

It might be the first time posting about Nakau. Since Nakau opened near my parents' house when I was in junior high school, I have been a frequent customer. Because of that, I still love Nakau. I think it's the best place for Oyakodon. It's definitely more delicious than Gyudon. The fluffy eggs and tender chicken are so tasty.

I received a breakfast voucher at my accommodation. I decided to take a leisurely walk in the refreshing morning to visit the restaurant. It was before 8 am on a weekday and the place was bustling with customers. The staff seemed a bit overwhelmed and busy, but I guess it was just bad timing.
I ordered the Breakfast B Set:
- Sunny-side-up egg
- Chicken tempura
- Beef bowl
- Seaweed
- Miso soup
The restaurant's specialty orange-colored egg with a beautiful yolk was a delight. I enjoyed the sunny-side-up egg with white rice, beef, and soup. I also indulged in the freshly fried chicken tempura. I finished my meal in no time, even though I thought I might struggle due to drinking too much the night before. It was delicious. Thank you for the meal.

Visited the restaurant closest to the movie theater to catch the first screening at Ion Cinema Chofu. They were open at 7 am, and I ordered the Bacon and Egg Beef Bowl Set for 530 yen. The food came out quickly. The miso soup was full of ingredients but a bit strong, so adding more hot water would have been nice. The portion size was quite generous, and overall, it was a satisfying breakfast set.

Today, I had to travel to Tanashi early in the morning for some errands, so I stopped by Nakau for breakfast on the way. Since I drank a bit too much last night, I decided to go for a small portion of rice with my morning set meal. I ordered the Morning Set Meal with a small rice (230 yen) from the ticket machine and paid with my electronic payment app. In about 3 minutes, my meal was ready. First, I had the miso soup with enoki mushrooms and deep-fried tofu, which was served piping hot, just the way I like it. I also enjoyed the combination of the egg, seaweed, and hot coffee. The soft-boiled egg yolk with a dash of soy sauce on top of rice was a perfect finish to the meal. For only 230 yen, I was incredibly satisfied. Thank you for the delicious meal.

In December, the number of customers has decreased, but the number of banquet parties has increased, leading to late-night dinners at the top as usual. I had a craving for katsudon and katsu curry. The katsudon for 590 yen is consistently good quality at Nakau. The chicken katsu in the katsu curry for 680 yen is cooked perfectly. Perhaps due to Zensho's strategies, there is a slight differentiation from Sukiya, making it convenient to use (for beef bowl options, Matsuya in front of Chofu Station is sufficient). With CoCo Ichibanya at Keio Chofu Station North Exit closing at 12 midnight now, Nakau is the place to rely on. Thank you in advance, for my sake, haha.

■Visit Date: March 25, 2021■Items Received: Oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl), Hiyakara Soba set■MEMOVisited on March 25, 2021. This was my second visit in a year. The restaurant is located near Chofu Station North Exit. I stopped by for a meal before work overtime. This time, I had the Oyakodon and Hiyakara Soba set. The Oyakodon was consistently delicious, as always. The Hiyakara Soba I had that day was cold soba with a generous amount of wasabi, giving a sharp sensation that can make your eyes water if you use too much. After filling my stomach, I'm ready to continue working hard during overtime.■Blog Posthttps://ay-style.net/?p=29965

There were people of various ages, from students to adults, coming and going constantly. It's not a place to linger, so the turnover is very fast, making it convenient for those who want to eat quickly. It was dinner time on a weekday, but there were a few empty seats, so I think it's a recommended place for those who don't have much time but want to eat something at Chofu Station. Thank you for the meal.

Nakau, one of the four major gyudon chains, is located in Ojima-cho, Chofu City, Tokyo. They specialize in udon and rice bowl dishes. The nearest station is Chofu Station on the Keio Line. I visited on a weekend for brunch, after not having been there for over a year. The last time I went was my first time at Nakau. While I occasionally visit Yoshinoya, Matsuya, and Sukiya, this time I chose Nakau. They have two touch panel ticket machines and seating options include a counter and tables. Today, I ordered the regular-sized Gyudon with a small bowl of hot udon for 500 yen. The udon had a decent amount of firmness and a light Kyoto-style broth. The gyudon had a consistent flavor and would have been better with more sauce. The pickled ginger went well with the dishes. Overall, I would rate it a 7 out of 10. I would consider revisiting Nakau in the future.

Visited the restaurant again on October 11, 2020. It was after a drinking session and I was feeling hungry, so I decided to stop by Nakau for the first time in a while. I arrived a little after midnight, with only two other customers in the restaurant and two staff members, a man and a woman. They went to the back after preparing the food, so there was no greeting or interaction. I ordered the Sour and Spicy Udon. The dish arrived in about 2-3 minutes. I had been looking at a nearby izakaya's website while thinking about getting a light udon, and I chose the Sour and Spicy Udon from the new menu. When it arrived, I was surprised to see the egg so firm. The flavor itself was sour and slightly spicy, which I found delicious. The set also came with rice and plenty of toppings, which I thought was good.

I had the Miso Soup Katsudon for 690 yen. It was my first time going out late on a weekday in a while. I couldn't find the usual Coco Ichibanya that is open late, so I ended up here. I enjoyed the Katsudon, which is one of my favorite dishes. The Katsu was coated in a sweet and savory sauce, which was interesting. It was a delicious and simple Katsudon. The rice was dry and paired well with the dish. The miso soup had okra in it, which added a seasonal touch. Overall, the miso soup was typical of chain restaurants, but this particular brand has a slightly mild and traditional taste. What do you think of this brand's image? The fact that they offer Katsudon is a huge advantage for me, haha.

In the early morning near Chofu Station, there aren't many options, but I finally found this place. I was debating whether to eat a lot or just a little in the morning, but ended up ordering a mini cold udon. The udon was great! It was served in a cold broth that was subtly flavorful, with firm noodles that stood out. The noodles were cooked just right and then chilled, which enhanced their chewiness. The oyakodon had a nice half-cooked texture, with a creamy consistency. It feels like there's a secret to achieving this with the whole egg that I can't quite replicate at home. All of this for only ¥600 is amazing. However, there was an even cheaper option available!

I visited on March 24, 2020. It was a business meal. It's been about 2 years since my last visit. I went back to the office once, before starting my overtime work, I came here to fill my stomach. I usually go for oyakodon at Nakau, but today I decided to try the katsu and egg set meal. It was my first time trying it. The katsu and egg set meal came with a generous portion of katsu and egg, takenoko miso soup, salad, and rice. I enjoyed the slightly rich flavor, which suited my taste. I mixed the hot, freshly made katsu and egg with rice while saying "ha-fu ha-fu." My hunger gradually subsided, and in the end, I was very satisfied. I ate to my heart's content. Since it was close to 8 p.m., most of the customers were salarymen.

I wanted to warm up by eating soba, so I found out that Nakau also has soba. Nakau is known for its gyudon with simmered shiitake mushrooms and high karat udon. Originally from Osaka, it had a unique lineup of products that set it apart from Yoshinoya and Matsuya. However, after becoming part of the Zensho group, the menu has changed while still maintaining a Kyoto-style atmosphere. The current gyudon no longer includes simmered shiitake mushrooms. I tried the 290 yen morning soba. It came with white soba noodles, fried egg, green onions, and white kamaboko. The broth had a mild flavor without a strong bonito taste. The soba had a good texture, and it warmed me up nicely. Later, I stopped by again for a quick visit. I tried the steamed chicken ginger ankake udon in a small size for 350 yen. It was perfect for a cold morning. I added extra pickled ginger from the table for an extra kick of ginger, which is good for the body. Enjoy your meal!

Noodles: Thin, smooth white noodles.
Soup: Light-colored and elegant.
Tempura: Shrimp aroma.
Other: Fish cake.
Today I visited the Chofu Kitaguchi branch. The soup thickness varies significantly depending on the branch. So far, I have spent a total of 145,365 yen on Tempura Soba and this was my 298th bowl. Thank you for the meal.
