The shop's name is hard to remember. lol For lunch, I had the *zako don for ¥1500. I chose two mini bowls, one with pickled vegetables and the other with shrimp! The pickled vegetables tasted like a pickled bowl and were delicious. Although there were few shrimp, they tasted fresh. Thank you for the meal! ( ^ω^ )

I made a reservation to try the famous "bekkouzuke" on the island and visited the restaurant. It was fully booked as soon as it opened, probably due to the Golden Week. I recommend making a reservation if you plan to visit this popular restaurant while traveling. I enjoyed the zako-don lunch and day drinking on this day. The zako-don allows you to choose your favorite sashimi, so I chose the bekkozuke and kanpachi. Bekkozuke is white fish marinated in a slightly spicy soy sauce with green chili peppers. The spiciness was not overwhelming, and it was delicious with the aroma of green chili peppers. However, the rice portion was quite large, so you may want to ask for a smaller portion. (I eat a lot, but it felt like a lot! haha) All the lunch menus are generous in portion, so the cost performance is quite good. I think the best combination for two people is to choose your favorite lunch menu and add island sashimi or bekkozuke as a single item. (Recommended for those who want to try various sashimi and enjoy sake!) I was very satisfied to finally try the bekkozuke!

I visited here for work♪♪ It was my first time coming to Oshima, and I had a tight schedule, but I was introduced here as a place where I could eat anything, so I went there. The most popular dish is the "bekkou-don set meal"! I wondered what "bekkou-don" was, and it turns out it's called that because it looks shiny when you put on green chili soy sauce... The sesame dressing with tomorrow's leaves was delicious.

It might feel like a cafe you would find in Hawaii. The interior is spacious and relaxing. It was worth the effort of walking 20 minutes to get there. Unfortunately, they didn't have any shellfish dishes, but I tried their popular set meal and it was delicious. I wanted to come back at night to try their shochu tasting.

We shared the miso simmered saba, zako set meal, Oshima specialty bekkou, and taco rice at Zako and Kiyomaru on Izu Oshima. The miso simmered saba was the best! LOL I tried bekkou for the first time, it was marinated and delicious. The taco rice had too much mayonnaise, it was terrible LOL It only tasted like mayonnaise LOL

Izu Oshima trip. Visited on the first night.
- Sashimi assortment New Island = 2-3 servings 3100
You can also enjoy the famous bekkou-zuke. The bekkou-zuke is made from medai. Other options include medai, kanpachi, mejina, and mada. Mejina is a quite sweet and delicious fish.
- Grilled kanpachi collar 900
Rich in fat and delicious as expected.
- Tataki tempura (5 pieces) 770
It is made in the style of Satsuma tempura with blue muroaji. It is thin and soft, making it delicious.
- Yakiniku set meal 1100
Pork set meal. The onion sauce is sweet, unexpectedly delicious.
- Children's lunch 850
Shrimp fry, hamburger, wiener, etc.
When I ate the Ashitaba tea ice cream, it smelled, but the Ashitaba tea has a cookie-like? It has a gentle taste. The Ashitaba dishes are also fulfilling.
Around 7300 for 4 people.

The recommended dish is the pickled sushi, as it is rich in flavor and packed with the taste of fish. I forgot to take a picture, but they also have bekkou sushi on the evening menu. Tourists should definitely try the bekkou sushi and pickled sushi. Another must-try at Kiyomaru is the tataki tempura, which is also incredibly delicious.

Visited for dinner on the day of the marathon. Ordered the Mixed Fry Set Meal with extra rice for 1650 yen and an additional Bekko for 660 yen. The set included long shrimp fry, squid, and oysters, very filling. Reminded me of the nostalgic old days when there were many similar shops. The Bekko was thick and creamy with a strong flavor and a spicy kick! I'm not a fan of spicy food, but I highly recommend it for those who are okay with it. Two things I hope they improve by my next visit: I prefer the rice to be firmer and I wish they served tartar sauce with the fry. Other than that, no complaints. Happy to have found a delicious dinner. Thank you for the meal.

In Izu Oshima, there is a popular restaurant known for its delicious lunch set meals! Among them, the "zako set meal" is a popular choice, offering a variety of sashimi, simmered dishes, and fried foods. The restaurant has a spacious interior with tables placed at a distance from each other. This time, I ordered the popular zako set meal. As shown in the photo, the portion size and taste for 1900 yen are considered reasonable! In particular, the sashimi and simmered dish were excellent. I definitely want to visit again for lunch when I come back to Oshima.

As a boat lover, I love Takeshiba Pier and Hinode Pier. I've always wanted to take a jet foil to the Izu Seven Islands! I finally made that dream come true. It was a last-minute decision, so I couldn't book a hotel and had to make it a day trip. But you can definitely explore Oshima in a day. I recommend taking a sightseeing taxi, probably 4 hours is enough. I saw a lot of tourists riding bikes, but that's risky. Oshima is a mountainous island, you know? Of course, I did my research online beforehand. What is "bekko-don"?! I wanted to try it! So I went to this restaurant and ordered the "bekko in the sea treasure box". There was also a "bekko-don" on the menu, but this one was recommended. By the way, the local specialty called "asunoha" was included in the dish as well as other ingredients. There was also something like sweet potato tempura, so it might be a typical home-cooked meal in Oshima by the sea. Since it's a popular spot mentioned in guidebooks, it gets quite crowded as soon as it opens. That's why maybe the service didn't feel very attentive. Also, because it's in Shinagawa Ward, they don't serve alcohol during the state of emergency (lol). I went during the July holidays, but there was no traffic congestion on the island probably because you can only get there by boat. There are a limited number of rental cars and taxis, so make a reservation as soon as you decide to go. Otherwise, you'll have a hellish experience riding a mama-chari bike! (lol) I also bought some local sweets as souvenirs near the port, and my mission was complete. Even though it was just a day trip, I felt like I was on a sightseeing adventure overseas, and it was a fun holiday.

I ordered the Zako Don, which allows you to choose two small bowls. I selected the scallop and shrimp bowls from the options of scallop, octopus, shrimp, amberjack, and bonito. Even though it's a mini bowl, I felt that three pieces of seafood were a bit too few to enjoy with the rice. The taste was good, but I ended up eating mostly soy sauce rice. The restaurant has great taste and excellent service, but the scallop bowl had significantly fewer scallops compared to other places. If you want to enjoy more scallops, I recommend ordering scallop sashimi separately, getting the Ocean Treasure Box, or coming at night to try the scallop sushi.

I visited this restaurant for lunch when I visited Oshima. I had dinner here before when I stayed in Oshima. The Zako set meal includes simmered fish, tempura, sashimi, sesame salad, and more. There are many types of side dishes, and they are delicious. As it is a remote island, the menu mainly focuses on fish, which is great. I especially like the tempura. I would definitely recommend the Bekko dish. When I had dinner here before, there was also Tokobushi, so you can enjoy things that you can only eat on the island. Thank you for the meal!

Finally landed on Oshima! It's about a 1 hour and 45-minute ferry ride from Tokyo's Takeshiba Passenger Ship Terminal. Just a 5-minute drive from Motomachi Port, there's a local cuisine restaurant called "Zakoya Kiyomaru." It gets crowded quickly during lunchtime with locals. I ordered the sashimi set, and also tried their specialty "bekko," which was delicious with island chili. They also had simmered mackerel and dried small fish tempura, all very generous portions! Enjoyed my time on Oshima! They have a wide selection of Oshima shochu, so I might try that next time!

On Friday night, I was in the mood for some comedy, so I decided to visit "Zakoya Kiyomaru". When I walked into the restaurant, it had a casual izakaya atmosphere. I sat at a table and checked out the menu. After some hesitation, I decided to order the "Zako Set Meal" (1750 yen). Since I was driving, I had to settle for a non-alcoholic drink. Soon enough, a staff member with a Zakobap-like vibe brought out my set meal. I dug in right away. The food tasted pretty good, nothing extraordinary. The potato fries came a bit later, but they had a homemade feel to them, not exactly Zakoba style though. Next time, I'd like to try ordering something like Shumai if I get the chance.
