This is also a classic taste from Taneya that needs no further explanation. A gentle sweetness that is not too strong. The balance between the red beans and agar is also good, creating an exquisite flavor. I visited on a Sunday afternoon in response to my wife's request. I bought 5 water yokan roses for ¥350 each, with a shelf life of over 2 months, so you can enjoy them slowly. Highly recommended for anyone.

I hesitated about whether to review it or not, but here goes. "Taneya" is a traditional Japanese confectionery shop based in Omihachiman. With over 40 stores nationwide, including affiliated stores like Club Harie, it is considered a major chain. The flagship store in Omihachiman, called "La Collina Omihachiman," has become a popular tourist destination. Designed by Terunobu Fujimori, a renowned architect, the store is quite famous. Fujimori also gained fame for creating the tea room "Go-an" near the new National Stadium during the Olympics. The "Lotus Seed Cake" costs 756 yen and is described on their website as follows: "We have cooked the slightly sweet lotus root starch to a shiny, smooth finish. Enjoy it with fragrant kinako powder sprinkled on top." It is shaped like a ball of yokan, and when you push the included pin, the filling smoothly comes out. I found it to be underwhelming, lacking the expected texture and flavor of lotus root confections like the ones from Murasaki Wakuden. It was almost like a jelly-like texture, with a subtle taste and a finish of kinako powder. The lotus root flavor was barely noticeable, making it almost like a warabi mochi. Overall, it was quite mediocre. My family even commented that "Taneya's products can be quite troublesome." Perhaps they focus too much on event-based products. The shelf life is 3 days, and even though I didn't finish it in one go, it remained soft and didn't upset my stomach when I ate it later. If they're going to name a product with "lotus," they should try to bring out more distinctive features. This is my contender for the most underwhelming treat of the summer.

Established in the fifth year of the Meiji era, this traditional Japanese sweets shop in Omihachiman offers a variety of treats, including the famous Baumkuchen from the Western-style confectionery Club Harie. In Ikebukuro, where there are many shops in Tobu and Seibu, it can be easy to get lost among the different stores. While wandering around, I was drawn to the Japanese sweets in the depachika (department store basement), particularly the chestnut daifuku. You can buy these treats individually, which is convenient. As I observed, I also noticed treats like the Kuri no Daifuku and Satsuma-imo no Fukujumai, which all looked delicious. I decided to try the Kuri no Daifuku first, which features a large chestnut wrapped in sweet bean paste and mochi. It was not overly sweet and really highlighted the natural flavors of the ingredients. I think I might become a fan of daifuku now, especially the ones made with chestnuts. The Tane-ya Kuriko Michi caught my eye next, with its flavorful chestnut paste wrapped in azuki bean paste. It reminded me of a chestnut sweet with a thin layer of bean paste. Then, there was the Fukujumai, made with sweet potato anko called Naruto Kintoki, wrapped in a dough sprinkled with cinnamon powder. It had a nice balance of sesame and cinnamon, enhancing the sweet potato's natural sweetness. Pairing these traditional Japanese sweets with tea is also a great idea.

This is a very delicious water yokan. It was absolutely delicious. Water yokan is moist and very tasty. The container is deep, so it has more volume than it appears. Also, the monaka is delicious. You fill the monaka with red bean paste yourself. The monaka shell and red bean paste are separate. Then there is grape jelly and apple jelly, which are also very delicious.

I have been to Taneya in Omihachiman and frequented the Shibuya store, but for some reason, I had never bought dorayaki there. As expected from Taneya, the dorayaki is delicious. It must be because the red bean paste is so good.

Finally got my hands on it. A chestnut wagashi that was recommended to me. It's more elegant in size than I thought. When I opened the package of the chestnut wagashi, it looked like yokan at first glance. But when I took a bite, I was impressed. Wow. This is incredibly delicious. It doesn't have chestnut chunks, but the flavor is amazing. Thank you for recommending it. Grateful.

The Kuri Tsukishita is highly recommended, but this time I tried the Kuri Murasaki Sou. It's a luxurious treat made with autumn chestnuts. The light and easy-to-eat yokan is generously filled with chopped chestnuts soaked in honey. The chestnuts inside are juicy. Looking forward to trying the Kuri Tsukishita next time.

The purpose of going to Nemuro, Hokkaido is for grass cutting (-.-;)y-~~~ Due to the coronavirus pandemic, I haven't been able to go back to Nemuro much, so it's been a long time since I visited my daughter's house. I can't remember much, but when I looked at my food log, it was convenient because it had the restaurants I visited and the places I went. I used to visit Lake Akan and Lake Mashu before. Arrivedヽ( ̄д ̄;)ノ=3=3=3 It's been five months since I last saw my daughter, so there are bushes and bamboo grass in front of the house. I changed my clothes, took a sickle, and set out‼️‼️ There are no leeches or snakes here, so it's easy‼️ But there are caterpillars, but that's okay. I crush them with my boots. The hairs of these caterpillars can cause rashes, though. If I overdo it, I'll get muscle pain, so I decided to leave some for the next day after working for two hours. After work, it's snack time‼️ Amazingly, my daughter brought delicious snacks from Tokyo Ikebukuro. It's a seasonal chestnut snack from Taneya in Shiga Prefecture. I thought it was chestnut yokan, but it's actually chestnut slices*\(^o^)/* Just chestnuts and sugar and something else that I forgot. It's thinly sliced and incredibly delicious‼️ I didn't know about it. Taneya is in most department stores, so I'll definitely go buy this(((o(*゚▽゚*)o)))

Taneya Hyoshitsu: A rare Japanese confectionery sold for only 2 days, consisting of 6 pieces, each weighing 31g. It is made with a unique combination of white miso flavored mochi wrapped in a dough made from gyuhi (a type of soft rice cake). The gyuhi dough has a smooth appearance and a firm, chewy texture. It is not overly sticky and has a good bite to it. The white miso flavored mochi inside has a taste reminiscent of amazake (sweet fermented rice drink), even though there is no amazake listed in the ingredients. The gentle sweetness of the white miso was complemented by the amazake-like flavor. While it wasn't overwhelmingly delicious, it was a unique treat worth trying due to its rarity.

My favorite autumn and winter limited edition sweet treat to buy is the chestnut-shaped wagashi called Kuritsuki-shita. I find myself buying it every year. It's a sweet treat that is like a solidified chestnut, not too sweet and goes well with tea. It's also delicious when eaten with vanilla ice cream. The packaging is sturdy and it has a good shelf life, making it a great gift to give to others!

Taneya / Chestnut Mochi☑︎ 34 kcal per piece I thought it was a hard sugar candy, so I was surprised by the texture when I cut it. It's a cute chestnut mochi with a crumbly texture, and it contains chestnuts mixed in. The egg yolk flavor of the mochi completely overwhelms the chestnut flavor, making it less suitable for those who want to fully enjoy the chestnut taste. It's a traditional Japanese sweet where you can see the chestnuts clearly, but unfortunately, you can hardly taste them when you eat it. As a crumbly egg yolk mochi, it was delicious to eat.

Taneya / Kuriko Michi Mischievous chestnut thief in the mountain. A path in the mountains, Kuriko Michi. Chestnut sweets that bring out the deliciousness of ripe chestnuts. A rich chestnut paste wrapped in smooth sweet bean paste, finished in a cute tea towel shape. - 36g - 89 kcal Kuriko Michi, a seasonal product from the delightful Taneya. The outer layer has a similar texture to sweet bean paste. The sweet bean paste is strong in sweetness but not overly cloying. The chestnut sweet is moist and rich, showcasing the deliciousness of chestnuts without being overpowering. And the chestnut sweet is exquisite!!! I thought the inside would be chestnut yokan, so I was even more impressed!!! The texture of the chestnut is satisfying, with the sweet bean paste complementing it well without overshadowing the chestnut flavor. If the quality is this good, I definitely want to try it again next year...

I found this shop while looking for traditional Japanese sweets in the basement of Seibu Ikebukuro store. It was not too crowded around 6 pm on a weekday. I purchased two items: "Toshou Senbei" (170 yen) and "Dorayaki" (160 yen). The Toshou Senbei had a crispy, fragrant shell filled with half yuzu-flavored smooth red bean paste and half chunky red bean paste. The yuzu paste was refreshing and paired perfectly with the soft, chunky red bean paste. It was perfect for the hot season with its refreshing flavor. The Dorayaki had a fluffy, soft pancake filled generously with red bean paste. The pancake was so fluffy that the red bean paste felt quite substantial. The red bean paste was not too firm, but it had a smooth texture with visible red bean chunks. Both items were delicious, with a unique coolness from the yuzu paste in the Toshou Senbei and a great balance of textures in the Dorayaki. The prices were reasonable, and the individually wrapped Dorayaki had a longer shelf life, making it a good option for gifts. This shop originated in Omihachiman and is involved in various initiatives while maintaining a connection with nature and the local community. I would love to try more of their products in the future.

One of the few pleasures during the self-restraint period was shopping at the department store basement sweets section. I happened to see and buy some Yomogi Mochi from Taneya. The skin of this Yomogi Mochi was unique, with a slightly grainy texture similar to half-milled rice, yet soft. It was different from the Yomogi Mochi I had eaten before. The scent of yomogi was mild and easy to eat. For those who like bitterness or a grassy taste, it might be lacking. The filling, as expected from Taneya, was excellent. Overall, it was very delicious. Thank you for the meal.

"Edokko are like the carp streamers in May, all talk and no substance." The expression refers to people from Edo (old name for Tokyo) who are known for being outspoken but lacking in substance. It implies that they talk a lot but don't have the courage to act on their words. On May 5th, the Japanese celebrate Children's Day, also known as Tango no Sekku. It originated from the story of Qu Yuan, a Chinese poet and politician who drowned himself in a river out of despair. People tried to prevent fish from eating his body by throwing rice dumplings into the water. The reviewer visited a department store in Tokyo and found that only some sections were open, including the food market. They bought some aquatic plants for their goldfish, which are known for being voracious eaters. Unfortunately, the rooftop area where they usually sell goldfish was closed. They managed to find some rice dumplings for Children's Day at a store called "Taneya" and enjoyed them at home. Overall, the reviewer expressed gratitude for being able to find the rice dumplings despite the limited options available due to the current situation.

Last year, I received some chestnut sweets from Taneya, which became my favorite. I was eagerly waiting for the chestnut season after being disappointed by the incomplete May Kashiwa Mochi. This year, in addition to the chestnut sweets, I was particularly interested in the Kuri Gekka, which had caught my attention from other people's reviews. Here is what I bought: - Kuri Gekka ¥1200 - Nishiki-ki ¥320 x 2 The above prices do not include consumption tax. [Kuri Gekka] This is a delicacy packed with finely mashed chestnuts. I was surprised by the texture that crumbles in my mouth. I had imagined a sticky texture like yokan, so I was pleasantly surprised. It has a strong sweetness and a rich chestnut flavor, which pairs well with Japanese tea (especially matcha). [Nishiki-ki] These are chestnut sweets in bite-sized pieces. They melt in your mouth and fill it with the sweetness of chestnuts. I enjoyed the taste of autumn with these sweets and tea. Taneya's chestnut sweets are really delicious! (I have reevaluated the chestnut sweets for this review.) The Kuri Gekka I received this time is in a small size, but they also have a larger size available. They can be stored at room temperature and have a good shelf life, making them suitable as gifts. Thank you for the delicious treats! ☆

Taneya's Summer Mandarin Agar is a unique dessert with a jelly-like texture and an innovative way of serving in a long, narrow case. When topped with summer mandarin sauce, it has a jam-like sweetness with a hint of bitterness. Perfect for those who enjoy a slightly bitter citrus flavor like me.

Tane-ya's refreshing water yokan is made using their unique "natural production method" to bring out the flavor and umami of Hokkaido red beans. It has a smooth texture with a light sweetness that is not too overwhelming. It is easy to eat without feeling sticky. The characteristic roughness of red bean paste is present, and the flavor of the red beans spreads in the mouth. It has a bouncy texture and tastes great when eaten chilled.

By the way, it's almost time for kashiwa-mochi, so I stopped by the traditional Japanese sweets area in the Seibu department store basement. I was drawn to the kashiwa-mochi displayed at Taneya's storefront. When I asked about the shelf life, they said it's until tomorrow, so I decided to get one each of the three types: smooth bean paste, miso bean paste, and whole bean paste, each priced at 180 yen. The mochi, stretched to about 1cm thickness, is folded in half like a futon with the bean paste wrapped inside. The fresh aroma of the kashiwa leaf brings the season to life. However, I couldn't help but wonder if this was really up to Taneya's quality. The mochi itself was very sweet, and even considering it's meant to be combined with the sweet paste inside, the overall balance wasn't great. The smooth bean paste was light and didn't leave a lingering taste, but the sweetness was a bit overpowering. The whole bean paste had a hint of the natural flavor of azuki beans, but again, the sweetness was too strong. The miso bean paste, with its rounded saltiness, was relatively easy to eat compared to the other two. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll be going back for more kashiwa-mochi. I'll look forward to enjoying their chestnut sweets in the fall. Thank you for the meal! ☆

As the season of cherry blossom mochi passes, it's time for oak leaf mochi. Mochi is always delicious (^ω^) I bought a box of 5 pieces containing two types of fillings, sweet bean paste and miso paste, as a souvenir for my parents' house at Seibu Ikebukuro. When I opened the box, each mochi was individually wrapped. The color of the leaf varies depending on the filling inside. The mochi is soft and easily peels off the leaf. It has a gentle sweetness and a hint of miso flavor. As we continued to eat while sipping tea, the mochi disappeared in just a few minutes. We were saying that 5 pieces were not enough for the three of us, and then we reached for another snack. (*´ω`σ)у Thank you for the meal.
