Unamasa @ Fuchu City, Tokyo (Fuchu Honcho) Unagi rare with a spicy and refreshing sauce. The eel is wonderfully grilled. Located in a residential area at the end of a pedestrian street after walking through a shopping street from Fuchu Honcho Station on the JR Nambu Line and Musashino Line. It is one of the five houses in a row, with a noticeable eel flag and two delivery bikes parked in front of the store. The exterior decorated with bamboo, aged wooden sign, and noren curtain gives a nice feel. The interior has the atmosphere of a Showa era izakaya. There are two tables and a clean private room for four people in the back. The kitchen, which occupies half of the store, is old-fashioned and truly Showa era. I was impressed by how clean it was despite its old appearance. Today, with the rapid increase in COVID-19 cases and preventive measures in place, I was lucky that a private room was available. The eel rice bowl comes in three sizes: 2,300, 2,700, and 2,900 yen. Cheap! There are also set meals of kabayaki, okonomi, tempura, tenju, tori ju, tempura, and yakimono. I had the following: ■ Eel Rice Bowl Special 2,900 After waiting exactly 30 minutes, the fragrant aroma gradually wafts in, making me eager to eat. The eel, crispy on the outside and tender inside, is delicious. The sauce is rare with very little sweetness, making it refreshing and light. I feel like it's better without sansho pepper. Thanks to this, there is no sticky feeling in the mouth after eating the eel. I think this sauce can become addictive. The elderly couple who run the place provide friendly and courteous service, which I appreciate.
