This is a food and grocery store established in 1910 (Meiji 43) in Asakusa. The store is small but has a wide variety of products. They offer a selection of seafood delicacies, homemade side dishes, bean snacks, and more. They also sell the popular "Pelican bread," which can be purchased without reservation if they have it in stock (although there are days when it's not available). The store is located about a 1-minute walk from exit 7 of Asakusa Station, at the corner of Asakusa 2-chome intersection of Denpo-in Street and Umamichi Street. I visited in the afternoon. The interior of the store is small but has an attractive selection. They offer seafood delicacies, dried fish, simmered side dishes, pickles, oden, pickled shallots, homemade vinegar-pickled small fish, smoked bean snacks, and more. The side dishes are in small portions for easy consumption. Although a bit pricey, it's fun to choose from various options. I purchased the following items (prices include tax): ● Peanut Smoke Butter (300 yen) Made with domestically produced peanuts. When you open the bag, a smoky aroma fills the air. The taste is addictive. ● Kawahagi Mirin-dried fish (570 yen) This is a great accompaniment for sake. Lightly grill it before enjoying. ● Shijimi Sansho (30g, 300 yen) Simmered shijimi clams with a hint of sansho pepper. The sansho flavor is not as strong as expected, slightly on the sweet side. Goes well with rice. They offer a variety of products that can be enjoyed by both drinkers and non-drinkers. Why not stop by for some Asakusa souvenirs?

The dreamland for drinkers? I think it was introduced by Dancyu Editor-in-Chief Ueno - Nakamuraya Honten in Asakusa, established in 1969. A rare delicacy shop where you can find a variety of sake accompaniments! I was curious about what kind of products are lined up. Exciting - the narrow store is packed with rare delicacies. Dried foods like dried ray fins, dried firefly squid, smoked nuts, and dried fruits. In the refrigerated case, there are umeshu, shirasu, sujiko, and salted fish roe. And more. What an impressive lineup! I don't drink alcohol, but since I'm here, I'll buy a few things. I tried the new "boiled firefly squid," which is plump and not flat. I also tried "tai no konowata" for the first time! It's nice that they sell them in small sizes. The "dried apricots" seem to be additive-free and have a plum-like flavor that's really delicious. They also sell Pelican Bakery's bread, which is hard to find in Asakusa, and it's selling like hotcakes here. It seems like a very lively place to go shopping for a home drinking session.

When passing by the store, I saw a note at the entrance saying "Pelican Bread in stock." I decided to buy a loaf for my wife, who likes it. When I visited after dinner, there was only one loaf left, so I hurried to purchase it just in time. I bought it at 1:23 PM on a Saturday. The price was 430 yen. It turned out to be soft and moist, with a chewy texture. It looked heavy but was delicious when eaten as is. When toasted with margarine, it had a crispy outer layer while maintaining its moistness inside. My wife and daughter were satisfied with the taste. They especially enjoyed it with margarine, which enhanced the sweetness of the bread. Overall, Pelican bread is best enjoyed toasted. Thank you for the meal!

I have never been able to buy Pelican bread before, haha! I have called Pelican about three times to ask if I could buy it on the weekend, but each time they said it was fully booked. It's like a mythical bread for me, haha! While wandering around Asakusa, I saw a handwritten sign at the entrance of a pickle shop saying that Pelican bread was in stock. I decided to go in and found some loaves of bread on the right-hand side. I was surprised! I grabbed one loaf, which seemed to be the product, and took it to the register. The price was the same as Pelican's, 430 yen. I felt so lucky and happy! I will definitely come back here if I want to buy Pelican bread again. Now, let's take it home and try it. The bread is longer and thinner than regular bread, with a strange shape, but it feels heavy and has a high-quality texture. The crust is thick and slightly moist, while the crumb is very fine and dense, with a lot of moisture. It has a light and airy texture but is satisfying to eat. The taste is within the realm of regular bread, with a simple ingredient composition. Compared to high-end bread with oils, honey, or cream, it may not stand out, but it is still enjoyable. It's best when used for sandwiches or toasted to bring out the flavor. Overall, I am very satisfied with Pelican bread and enjoyed the experience.

It's fun to see the variety of items! Once you start eating the wet squid tempura and fried broad beans, you can't stop. If you're lucky, you might also be able to buy Pelican's bread.

Nakamuraya Honten is a shop located at the corner of the intersection of Asakusa 2-chome and Basha Street and Denboin Street, rather than at the intersection of Asakusa 2-chome. I had known for several years that you could buy bread from "Pan no Pelican" here, but the shop seemed to have changed a bit and become cleaner since my last visit. It was established in Meiji 43, and they sell a variety of rare delicacies from around the country, focusing on boiled beans, dried goods, and also homemade boiled beans, pickles, dried fish, and rare delicacies. When I visited around 2 o'clock last year, the bread from "Pan no Pelican" was already sold out. I asked about it, and apparently, it had been featured on TV that day, making it no longer a hidden gem for buying Pelican bread, and now you have to go before 2 pm to buy it. The bread is delivered twice, at 10 am and 12 pm, so you can buy it if you time it right. On this day, I arrived at 1 o'clock. The rolls were all sold out, but I bought the remaining 1.5 kg and 1 kg loaves of bread for 570 yen and 380 yen, respectively. The prices are the same as those at Pan no Pelican in Taharamachi. It seems that the rolls are quite popular and sell out in the morning. I then went to Pelican, but all the small and medium rolls were sold out. It used to be that medium rolls were often the only ones left, but the situation seems to have changed since then. By the way, there are fewer and fewer cafes and restaurants where you can eat Pan no Pelican bread. When I checked a while ago, 7 stores had closed down. I need to hurry before they all disappear.

While walking in front of a company in Asakusa before a meeting, I made a lucky discovery! Usually, they are always sold out, but today they had some available. I am a huge fan of Pelican's bread ever since I first tried it at a cafe near Asakusa-bashi station. I bought two loaves and put them in my bag. The clients at the meeting looked puzzled when they saw the old man with a bag. I took the bread home and toasted it right away. It was delicious! Especially the crust was soft and chewy, the best!

I unexpectedly found Pelican's shokupan (Japanese fluffy white bread) on display and ended up buying it! The shop had various pickled items that caught my interest, but for now I just got the Pelican bread. I passed by on a weekday morning and they had a few loaves of 2 pounds, 1.5 pounds, and 1 pound sizes lined up.

Asakusa Delicious Food Tour ❶ Manufacture (bagels, croissants, etc.) ❷ Nakamuraya Honten (What kind of shop?) Pelican bread at ❸ Jukkien (World's richest matcha ice cream, hojicha ice cream) ❹ Asakusa menchi ❺ Gyoza no Ousama (Gyoza takeout) ❻ Sekine (shumai, nikuman), ● Hinode Senbei did not have freshly baked rice crackers so I gave up on buying them ← Teacher Bin Bin Story? Toshi-chan, the shop used in that show?? Old story (laughs) ❼ Walking around the Kappabashi area ❽ Owariya (soba noodles) ❾ Jukkien revisited (matcha ice cream, brown rice tea ice cream) ➓ Asakusa strolling ⑪ Asakusa Naniwaya (taiyaki) From Manufacture to Jukkien, I crossed the pedestrian crossing to head towards it, and at the corner, Pelican bread?? Oh, today I was thinking of giving up on Pelican bread because I was going to different places, but I found it here!! Lucky ♫ In front of me, two couples were all buying Pelican bread. Cash payment only, tax included ● Roll bread (medium) 5 pieces for 520 yen It's a 3.5 milk bread. It's just delicious. Not too special, easy to eat! Milky with no buttery taste. It's delicious even when toasted!! It's so easy to eat, I end up eating it, I'll get fat (>_<) I've bought from Pelican multiple times, so I won't go out of my way to buy it, but if I have a chance to buy it again in this way, I might get it!

Pelican's shokupan is quite firm and chewy as it is, with a strong bite. However, when toasted, it transforms. The outside becomes crispy, while the inside is incredibly soft and chewy. Unlike the trendy sweet and fluffy breads, this is a traditional shokupan that is delicious. Highly recommended for a revisit.

Established in the 43rd year of the Meiji era, this restaurant offers a variety of delicacies from all over the country. Featured on the TV show "Ad-machi Tengoku."
