An acquaintance of mine fractured her left leg and was forced into a wheelchair. She used to be very active, going out for drinks and meals with many friends. However, after the accident, she couldn't go anywhere because she couldn't use public transportation with a wheelchair. As a result, friends started visiting her in her town one after another. She is a very bright and popular person, so it was natural for people to gather around her. Recently, we also visited her town to pay our respects.
The restaurant we went to is called "Tenku Dai Hall" in front of the Gakugeidaigaku Station, operated by the Tenarai-do chain. It is a large restaurant where you can dine or use it as an izakaya, with wide aisles that can easily accommodate wheelchairs. We ordered the most cost-effective "kettle" Hoppy drink, where you can adjust the alcohol content yourself. She happily talked about the people who had visited her recently, mentioning the names of each person. The restaurant was wheelchair accessible, and we had previously visited with a few people.
We enjoyed dishes such as seaweed-wrapped torotaku tower, fried corn, fried eggplant with ginger, cheese spring rolls, anchovy mayo potato fries, hearty grilled chicken thighs with rock salt, thick fried tofu, grilled dumplings, edamame, stick chikuwa tempura, gizzard tempura, green pepper and soft egg stir-fry, rolling shrimp tempura with tartar sauce, rolling shrimp tempura, sauce yakisoba, omelette rice, and hearty char siu fried rice with extra char siu. The food, known for its quality, was delicious overall. The only downside was that the "hearty grilled chicken thighs with rock salt" wasn't as hearty as expected, and the extra char siu in the fried rice was a bit lacking. The total bill for 6 people on that day was 20,800 yen.
Thanks to her leg injury, the sales of wheelchair-accessible dining establishments around Gakugeidaigaku Station have been booming. The staff may even be saying, "It seems like we've been busier lately." As we left the restaurant and headed towards the station with her wheelchair, I pushed it for the first time in my life. I know that someday, someone will push me in a wheelchair too. We made a promise to meet again next month at Gakugeidaigaku Station for drinks. The area around Gakugeidaigaku Station will be safe until she gets out of the wheelchair.
