Shibuya, the lunch meeting ran late again, and as usual, I couldn't find lunch until 2 pm. I was lost for lunch. I searched and found "Naruto Kitchen Shibuya Store" behind Shibuya Police Station, which serves until 2:30 pm. I decided to go there, and it looked like an izakaya. There were people drinking alcohol inside. Well, I just wanted a quick lunch, and I haven't had "fried chicken" in a while, so I entered the restaurant. A glass of water was brought in a beer mug. It felt like an izakaya. The menu featured a specialty called "half-fried young chicken," a specialty from Otaru. (I thought it was from Kagawa Prefecture...) I decided to order the "Half-fried Young Chicken Set Meal (tax included 1300 yen)" which focused on this dish. It was brought to me in 10 minutes after ordering. Plastic gloves were provided, and I put them on my left hand to hold the chicken. Ouch! The chicken was fried without any batter. It seemed to be fried at a very high temperature, so it was hot to hold with my hands. But I had no choice but to hold it. I used chopsticks in my right hand to break the meat. It was quite a struggle, not as easy as described in the instructions. I enjoyed the wings, breast meat, etc. The skin around it showed a Maillard reaction and was crispy and fragrant. Eating the crispy skin along with the tender meat inside was a blissful experience. Now, I tried other items in the set meal. The rice...it was quite cold and not very tasty...I had to think of it as a bonus. The miso soup...this was delicious. It had plenty of wakame seaweed, cabbage, lotus root, eggplant, etc., and was quite flavorful. That made the rice less appealing... The pickled radish was also delicious. The potato salad seemed to be melting and was not to my liking. It seems that focusing on the fried chicken here is the way to go. The secret spices were surprisingly delicious, and they are particular about using fresh chicken meat, not frozen. It was delicious, but eating half a chicken was quite filling. I had to resort to holding the parts I couldn't dismantle properly with the plastic gloves and tearing the meat with my teeth. This might be something that women find difficult to do in public... If someone brings this for Christmas, I can have half of it by myself. Instead of lining up for that famous chicken this year, maybe getting takeout or delivery from here is a good idea. Just the chicken would get a 3.8 rating, but with the disappointing rice, the set meal's rating becomes stricter, maybe a 3.6?...Oh well, as the half-fried chicken is still doing well, let's keep the overall rating at 3.7.
