One day, my wife came home from going out and brought two cakes. She said, "I suddenly felt like eating a solid cake." I understand that feeling. In the midst of the ongoing pandemic, there is hardly any money to spend on leisure activities, so indulging in such a luxury is not a problem at all. Takeout makes it even more reassuring. She continued, "Since you're busy working from home and can't go out, I thought it would be a good idea for a Tabelog review." I'm touched by my wife's thoughtfulness. However, it can be a hassle to write reviews after a while, but oh well, I'll give it a shot. This shop called Genovese is a cake shop located in Fuchu City, Tokyo (they also have a store in Hiroshima, so I'm mentioning it). I think the best cakes come from a shop that started as a small individual shop and expanded to about three stores. But you can't really tell it's Genovese from the name in alphabets haha. Genovese recently had a pop-up shop at the Marui Department Store in Kokubunji for a few days. Marui Department Store in Kokubunji has transformed into a cosmetics store and expanded its sweets space, inviting local shops to participate. This time, my wife brought back two types of tarts. One was fig, and the other was banana and chocolate. I had the fig one, and it was very juicy and delicious. The cream was tasty, not too sweet, and had just the right amount of oil. The pie crust was crispy with a bit of thickness, providing a solid body. This tart had a satisfying texture. When it comes to tarts at Marui Department Store in Kokubunji, A La Campagne is famous, but their tarts seem to have a French pastry style with a touch of alcohol. Genovese, on the other hand, seemed to offer simple tarts with a solid pie crust, cream, and fruit. Both are equally good. It's a luxury for the residents who use Kokubunji Station to be able to choose a cake shop according to their mood.
