A shop in a small alley in Kabukicho that gives off a suspiciously exciting vibe, almost like a local spot in Shanghai. I felt like if I bumped into a haniwa statue, it would break. The staff didn't understand Japanese, so I was thinking of trying to talk to them in ancient Japanese. I found scorpions and killifish on the menu - amazing! But I didn't have the courage to order the haniwa.

I was surprised by the large menu. I wanted something spicy and ended up ordering a boiled beef dish. Unlike other places, it wasn't oily at all. I finished it all. The tantanmen had a unique sour taste that I couldn't find at other restaurants. I finished it all. It's located in a niche area in Kabukicho and has a great atmosphere.

The menu photos and the actual dishes are completely different, with the actual portion being one-third of what is shown in the photos. The taste is something that any ordinary housewife could make. The spare rib meat is dry, the kung pao chicken is greasy, the soup tastes like MSG, the rabbit meat is overly salty, the glass noodles are too salty, and the bamboo shoots have such a small portion for the price of 1500 yen. The service attitude of the staff, who seem to be from Shanghai, is also extremely poor.

Since before the coronavirus, I remembered the fried bread and visited with friends from that time. The atmosphere of the unchanged shop and the older sister of the shop owner. The fried bread I was looking for didn't have condensed milk in the photo, so I was surprised, but when I asked, I was able to get the whole tube. Lucky! The crispy texture and sweetness were impressive as always. All the other dishes were delicious too. A little bit scary when we heard the noise of the customers in the attic, but that's also part of the charm of this place.

A deep restaurant in kabuki, it doesn't feel like Japan. It's surprising to find a place like this in a kabuki setting. The service is a bit cold inside the restaurant. The food is on the salty side, which goes well with drinks. The famous fried bread is unique, I've never seen anything like it. It has a simple taste, goes well with the soup. It feels like it has soy sauce on it. The water spinach, green pepper beef, and mapo tofu are all delicious. Even though the food is good, it doesn't feel satisfying, and it can be a bit stressful. I probably won't come back here. Thank you for the meal.

I visited before 7pm on Saturday. By the time I left, the restaurant was full. Located in a back alley in Kabukicho, this place makes you feel like you're in China. The menu has a lot of options, making it hard to choose. The minced meat and glass noodle hot pot, squid and garlic sprout, meatballs... all delicious. We had a great time feeling like we were on a trip. I often drink in Shinjuku recently, so I'll be back soon. Thank you for the meal. 😊✨

I was taken to this restaurant by a friend for the first time. It seems to be quite famous. It's nice that you can bring your own alcohol when you're short on cash. The place looks intimidating from the outside. It feels like you're not in Japan! The staff are very casual, almost too casual, or should I say carefree. Some of them don't speak much Japanese, so we ordered by pointing at the menu. My friend, who is used to this place, kept ordering more dishes. We had water spinach, shrimp chili, tofu and crab soup, and some kind of clam dish. The fried bread is a specialty, and dipping the hot bread into the soup was delicious! There were four of us, so we could enjoy a variety of dishes. The menu is quite extensive, with a lot of exotic items. They had dishes with spider, centipede, cicada, etc. I've tried eating insects before, but they generally have a shrimp-like taste. I prefer shrimp, so I'm not a big fan of insects. If you're curious, it might be worth a try. It was a lively atmosphere, perfect for drinking. It's impressive that they're open until 4 am, typical of Kabukicho.

I used it around 9 pm on a weekday. There was a table available, so I was able to get in smoothly. I ordered Qingdao beer, stir-fried water spinach, mapo tofu, grilled dumplings, sweet and spicy stir-fried clams, and more. Overall, it was very delicious. It feels like authentic Chinese food without pandering to Japan. It was a satisfying second round in the back alleys of Shinjuku, which is deeper than Harmonica Yokocho in Kichijoji. I would like to visit this restaurant again! Thank you for the meal!

Visited for dinner during a whirlwind trip to Tokyo. Located in a hidden alley, this restaurant may be hard to find. It exudes a Chinese or Taiwanese atmosphere, making you forget you're in the heart of Shinjuku. The staff, though not particularly friendly, match the ambiance perfectly. The dishes, while not piping hot, are delicious and truly capture the essence of Chinese cuisine. A perfect spot to experience a taste of China in the midst of Tokyo.

The entrance is a little hard to find. The menu is interesting with a variety of options. The service lacks friendliness, probably because the staff are foreigners. The food is overall decent and consistent, although a bit on the pricey side. It seems like they reheat pre-made dishes instead of making them fresh. Despite that, there is something addictive about the food. I would like to visit this restaurant again.

The atmosphere, food, and staff are all authentically Chinese, so if you enjoy that, then I recommend it! The menu is extensive with a variety of exotic dishes. Some items have photos, but there are also things that are hard to identify. As a beginner in trying exotic foods, I had scorpion tempura which was small and not too gross. The location is a bit hard to find, but that adds to the entertainment value of the experience.

Tonight, I visited "Shanghai Xiao Chi" for the first time with my colleagues for a company gathering. We had some trouble finding the place as it was located in a deep area. After we were seated, we ordered some beer and then looked at the extensive menu book. The menu had many options, some with small photos making it hard to understand what the dishes were. After some deliberation, we decided on the following dishes: - Sweet and Spicy Stir-Fried Clams ¥1,650 - Fried Bread ¥650 - Steamed Bread ¥650 - Edamame and Water Spinach ¥440 - Pan-Fried Dumplings ¥1,100 - Sweet and Spicy Spare Ribs ¥1,320 - Stir-Fried Soybean Sprouts ¥1,320 - Stir-Fried Shrimp ¥1,650 - Shanghai Fried Rice ¥1,650 The restaurant was full on a Friday night. We enjoyed the specialty of dipping the fried bread in the soup of the sweet and spicy clams. It was interesting how canned chu-hai was served as is. Overall, it was a delicious experience. Thank you for the meal.

Around 1:30 am, I ordered Shanghai Sanhuang Chicken (1980 yen) and a highball at the restaurant. The Shanghai Sanhuang Chicken looked completely different from the photo, with mostly bones and a significantly small portion. When I mentioned this, I was told that they use Nagoya Cochin chicken, but they didn't have much left today. However, I was still charged 1980 yen at the end. If they don't have enough, they shouldn't serve it or charge the full amount. It seems like they are being lenient with drunk customers who don't care.

Had a year-end party with friends☆ It was my second time visiting this restaurant, and once again, the foreign atmosphere was amazing! When I arrived first, even before I sat down, the staff asked me, "Beer?" and I couldn't help but say "Yes" and started drinking alone haha. It's a casual space where you can enjoy delicious food. #ShinjukuGourmet #ShanghaiCuisine #ChineseCuisine #SichuanCuisine #Beer #ShaoxingWine #Friends #WithFriends #YearEndParty

We quietly entered the narrow alley and could see the light from the entrance, already feeling the exotic atmosphere. A few friends and I used it for a second party that day. Even though we had already eaten, we couldn't stop eating the appetizers. Especially the simmered shellfish had a unique flavor that we couldn't get enough of. I would like to visit again.

I visited a restaurant that I had been curious about for the first time. As soon as I entered the narrow alley, the atmosphere suddenly changed to Chinese. The menu also has some impressive items, giving a feeling of being in the real deal. Everything I tried was of high quality. There was a bread-like pastry with layers that was slightly sweet and delicious on its own, but even better when dipped in various dishes. I highly recommend ordering this. The dumplings were also delicious.

It was a launch at Tsukiji Market. I ordered a variety of dishes, but I was a bit tipsy and tired, so there are hardly any photos. However, this place suited my taste the best out of all the restaurants I visited in Tokyo. I wish I could have fully enjoyed eating my way through Tokyo. Thank you for the meal!

I visited for the first time at the pre-party for the HELLOWEEN BALL 2022! It had a suspiciously good vibe♪(´ε` ) We managed to get in before it got crowded at 5:00, and had a great time with the rest of the group. I was so drunk that I don't remember what I ordered haha. Didn't even get to take any photos. Next time, I definitely want to try the drunk crab dish. Thanks for the meal!

From the first party near Shinjuku South Exit towards Yoyogi, the discussion turned to what to do for the second party, and it was mentioned that it's been a while since we last went to Shanghai Xiao Chi. "Oh, it's been a long time," we were greeted, and then we debated how many years it had been since our last visit. "You last came three years ago," said the sober person, and I had to admit that it was probably before Corona. You can see from the photos that we finished two bottles of Shaoxing wine and several beers, but I don't remember much of the conversation we had for nearly three hours. Next time we come, we can check this review to see how many years it's been.
