I visited after attending a forum held on the upper floors of the Toranomon Hills Business Tower. I used to come to Kamiyacho often, but recently I haven't been around much, and I saw how the city has evolved. The forum ended at 7 pm, so I planned to grab a bite to eat before heading home, and I searched on Tabelog. I found out that there is a casual restaurant from Akasaka Rikyu in this building, located on the 3rd floor. I tried to go directly from the high floors, but it seems that the elevator doesn't stop on the 3rd floor. So, I reluctantly went down to the 1st floor and asked the receptionist, who pointed to an escalator a little further ahead and said, "Please use the escalator to go to the 3rd floor." When I got there, I was surprised to find Toranomon Yokocho, a recreation of an Asian alley, with numerous restaurants crowded together, creating a food paradise. I walked around to see what kind of restaurants there were, but everywhere was full. It felt like a night market in Taiwan or a Hawker Center in Singapore, with young customers everywhere, and the staff were busy moving around, making it difficult to find a table for one person. With so many restaurants, I couldn't find the one I was looking for, so I checked the floor plan and headed in that direction. Fortunately, there was an empty counter facing the aisle, and I asked, "Is it okay to sit here?" and took a seat on a high chair. The menu had a selection of single items and set meals, making it easy to choose casually. I ordered steamed chicken as a single item and pork rib rice as a set. I also had a chuhai soda for my drink. Peanuts were served first, and they were charged as an appetizer for 350 yen. It had been a while since I visited Akasaka Rikyu, and it was different from the first bite. The aroma of Chinese five-spice powder stimulated the back of my palate, making the food very appetizing. I was full for less than 4,000 yen, with the steamed chicken at 1,200 yen, pork rib rice at 1,690 yen, and the drink included. I am grateful for being able to enjoy the taste of a high-end restaurant at this price. However, the atmosphere is like an alley, so I recommend using it in that kind of situation. I think it's much better than a traditional soba restaurant in a nearby standalone building. I will visit again when I come to Toranomon.
