Nishiazabu "Noshiro" - A famous restaurant known for its "kiritanpo" hot pot, loved by the locals. The dishes are made with care and change based on the season and ingredients, ensuring a warm and comforting experience. The kiritanpo hot pot is filled with fresh ingredients like mushrooms, mountain vegetables, and flavorful chicken. The homemade kiritanpo adds a special touch to the dish, with a crispy outer layer and a soft, flavorful inside. Enjoying the meal with a friend, we appreciated the delicious appetizers before the main dish arrived, savoring each bite.

Here in Noshiro, Akita, you can find a hidden gem where you can enjoy Akita's local cuisine. My go-to dishes here are the fried whale sashimi, kiritanpo, and of course, the chicken dishes made with Hinai-jidori chicken. The freshness of the whale meat is outstanding and incomparable to others. The fried whale sashimi is large in size, well-seasoned with garlic, ginger, and other flavors, and very satisfying to eat. It's so popular that it disappears in an instant. In addition to these dishes, the appetizers featuring Akita's mountain vegetables, as well as summer specialties like tonburi and mizu, are also excellent. The restaurant is run by just the female owner and her husband, so it's small and cozy. But I highly recommend trying the kiritanpo here. It's a hot pot dish made with Hinai-jidori chicken broth, various mushrooms, burdock, seri, konjac, and other unique ingredients. The flavors are so delicious that words are not enough to describe it. Your body will feel happy while eating it, and it's a dish I would want to eat even in the summer.

The department I belonged to for 4 and a half years organized a farewell dinner for me as I was being transferred to a new position. The setting was arranged to coincide with my last business trip to Tokyo. The responsible executive officer, along with my boss, joined me for the dinner at Akita cuisine restaurant called Noshiro in Nishi-Azabu, which was a favorite of the executive officer. The restaurant had a cozy atmosphere with only about four tables. We enjoyed various dishes and drinks while reminiscing about our 30-year friendship. Despite the bittersweet feeling of parting ways, I cherished the memories we created together. The highlight of the meal was the hair crab, which was not a traditional Akita cuisine but was specially added to the course by the executive officer as a farewell gesture. As we savored the crab, I couldn't help but recall the time I traveled to Yuzawa for the Kamakura Snow Festival with my family many years ago. It was a nostalgic and heartwarming evening, and as we finished our meal with udon noodles, I expressed my gratitude to my colleagues before heading to catch the last bullet train.

Just around the corner from Nishi-Azabu intersection is Noshiro. This restaurant in Noshiro, Akita City, offers Akita regional cuisine, including the famous Kiritanpo hot pot. Today, feeling a bit under the weather, I came here for some hot sake and Kiritanpo. I ordered a 1.5 serving of Kiritanpo hot pot. The restaurant serves three appetizers before the main dish: simmered fish, tuna, and seaweed. Since I'm feeling a bit sick, the hot sake and simmered fish were delicious. As I enjoyed a cup of hot sake, the Kiritanpo hot pot was ready. It was filled with mushrooms and root vegetables from the Tohoku region, with large pieces of Kiritanpo already cut. The aroma of the local chicken in the soy sauce broth filled the air. The soup was so tasty, and the Kiritanpo soaked up all the flavors. It was a true taste of Akita. To finish, I had Noshiro udon, a thin type of udon with a smooth surface. It was a delightful meal. The friendly chef here is actually a PR ambassador for Akita Prefecture, which was quite amusing.

Maako often talks with her friends about where they want to eat. Friend G: "I want to eat Kiritampo in Nishi-Azabu!" Maako: "Is that in Noshiro by any chance?" G: "Yes, that's right! I feel like winter hasn't started until I eat their hot pot." Maako: "I want to go there too!" G: "Alright, let's go!" They visited the cozy Kiritampo restaurant, just a 1-minute walk from the Nishi-Azabu intersection. The place has a warm atmosphere with a kind owner and hostess. They ordered a little bit of everything and were surprised to receive additional dishes. It seems like they can customize the course menu. The "Tontoro and Nagaimo with Quail Eggs" was especially delicious! The "Salmon Roe" had a surprisingly crunchy texture! The "Grilled Sandfish with Salt" had a creamy egg and tender meat, perfect to eat together. The "Iburigakko" is a specialty from Akita, which Maako hasn't tried before as she has never been to Akita. Finally, the purpose of their visit, the Kiritampo hot pot, was slightly sweet with a fragrant chicken broth. The fried tofu, mushrooms, and vegetables were all delicious. They only visit this beloved restaurant once a year, but they want to continue visiting for a long time. Visit frequency - ★★★★

In Nishi-Azabu, there is a Kiritampo restaurant that has been serving authentic Kiritampo for 30 years. The husband and wife duo run the restaurant, so the menu is not very extensive. This place is known for its Kiritampo, which is why I love it so much. Here is what I usually have: appetizers like simmered vegetables, tonburi salad, and Hichinanchu chicken sashimi; sashimi with amazing fresh fish; grilled dishes like shishamo and grilled mackerel; seasonal vegetables like butterbur sprouts and cod sprouts; homemade Karasumi for a palate cleanser; Kiritampo hot pot with udon and Iburi Gakko; and dessert and drinks. The Kiritampo in the hot pot here doesn't fall apart, unlike in other places. It has a great texture and is served with plenty of mushrooms. The broth, flavored with Hichinanchu chicken fat, complements the dish perfectly. Overall, it's a healthy and satisfying meal. After enjoying the meal, I feel happy and content, ready to disappear into the night of Nishi-Azabu. What do you think of this Akita cuisine restaurant?

It's been over 2 years now, but for a department gathering to celebrate our boss who loves alcohol, my senior made a reservation at this restaurant. Honestly, I wasn't very interested in dishes like grilled rice cakes, so I didn't have high expectations...but I was pleasantly surprised! First, before the hot pot, we ordered some appetizers while chatting with the staff. I actually didn't like hatahata fish, but got carried away and ended up ordering one for each of us...and to my surprise, the grilled salted fish was delicious! It wasn't fishy at all and I could eat it easily. Then, the star of the show, the grilled rice cake hot pot. I wasn't interested in the rice cakes at all, but then...oh, it's delicious! So many vegetables and mushrooms, and the flavor was amazing. By the time we left the restaurant, I had become a fan of Akita cuisine. Though I haven't been back since then. It's getting close to hot pot season again, so maybe I should go back. By the way, the bill was around 10,000 yen. It would be nice if it was a bit more affordable, but considering it's in Nishi-Azabu, it's understandable. Well, we did drink quite a bit, so (^^;)
