On December 2, 2019, I visited this new shop in front of Musashi-Koyama Station for the first time. It was part of the redevelopment of the area. Although the tapioca trend may have passed, this was the first tapioca shop in Musashi-Koyama... or so I thought, until later realizing my mistake. I arrived around 6:30 pm and there were about 10 people waiting. The new commercial facility is still mostly open or vacant, but I look forward to the completion of the new tower next year. Compared to other commercial facilities, this one is quite small, but it is the only one with a popular line. Most of the customers were women, so as a middle-aged man, it took some courage to jump in (laughs). I have seen lines at Shibuya store and others, but this one is quite compact. Inside the shop, you order at the front counter, receive your order on the left side, and there are 4 counter seats at the back left and 6 seats at 3 tables for dining in. Now, looking at the menu... it was a bit confusing (sweat). Roughly speaking, you choose your drink (hot or cold, size, etc.), sweetness level, ice amount, and toppings. I ordered the "Black Milk Tea (M)" (420 yen) with "Milk Foam" (70 yen) and matcha powder topping... since I didn't know what to order, I asked the staff, "What is the most popular?" and they recommended this Black Milk Tea. I quickly ordered, received it at the left hand pick-up counter, and was asked if I wanted matcha powder topping. First, I removed the lid and sipped the milk foam. It was delicious. I drank about half, covered the lid again, and finished the rest with a straw. The Black Milk Tea, being the most popular, was indeed delicious. After finishing it, I realized... wait, where are the tapioca pearls? There were none! It turns out this was a Taiwanese tea specialty shop, not a tapioca specialty shop (no wonder the straw was thin, haha). It seems that "pearls" are the tapioca topping. [Impressive Points] It is indeed delicious. Different from convenience store tapioca drinks. [Would be nice if...] Well, nothing in particular. As a middle-aged man, it was a bit of a struggle (laughs). But I understood why there was a line. It's just quite expensive, isn't it? When you think one drink could get you a bowl of beef bowl... it's like saying, "Don't come back" (laughs). It was a good experience. Next time, I'll try a tapioca drink!
