After visiting the "Mexico Exhibition" at the Tokyo National Museum, I was feeling a bit tired so I decided to take a break at this Hotel Okura Garden Terrace located on the first floor of the Horyuji Treasure Museum on the premises. I knew that Okura was there, but I couldn't find it at first. The Horyuji Treasure Museum is located at the corner to the left as soon as you enter the National Museum. Since it was a weekday during the summer vacation, I was able to enter without any wait and ordered an iced matcha latte and an iced cocoa. Being a cafe at Okura, the service was impeccable and the drinks were served quickly. I enjoyed my tea leisurely for a while ✨✨ (of course, they also offer light lunches). This cafe has quite a few seats indoors and outdoors, and although it might be difficult during this hot season, the outdoor terrace seems very pleasant when the weather is nice ✨✨ It may be a bit hard to find, but it could be a hidden gem. I would like to visit again when I come to the National Museum (*^^*) Thank you for the meal~✨✨

I often visit restaurants in art museums and museums. Among them, this restaurant is my favorite. It is located a little away from the main building of the museum, and I like that I can relax and spend time leisurely. On this day, I ordered the hashed beef rice set. While enjoying the view outside the window and the food, I was able to spend a luxurious time at the beginning of the new year, feeling rich in both my heart and stomach, after seeing works such as Takamikura, Gochodai, and Tani Buncho. I will visit again. Thank you for the meal.

I used this restaurant when I visited the Tokyo National Museum. The interior was refreshing with lots of natural light coming in from the sunlight. I ordered curry, which was delicious. However, I felt it was a bit expensive for this type of dish. It is located on the first floor inside the Horyu-ji Treasure Museum.

Visited on Saturday evening. Food log rating at the time of visit was 3.19. I stopped by this restaurant after visiting the Kukai and Buddhist Mandala exhibition at the Tokyo National Museum. Similar to Yurinoki, this restaurant is also operated by Hotel Okura. I arrived around 3 PM and the restaurant was almost full. I was seated at a table and ordered a hot coffee for about 500 yen. The coffee arrived promptly. I took a moment to relax and catch my breath. The service was top-notch, typical of Hotel Okura. The atmosphere was also pleasant, providing a graceful break. That's all, thank you!

I visited an exhibition at Ueno and decided to have lunch at a restaurant on the premises of the Tokyo National Museum before seeing the Toji Temple exhibition. I wrote my name down and waited for a table, and was told that I could be seated right away if I chose to sit outside on the terrace. It was a warm day but still a bit chilly in the shade, so I kept my coat on. They provided knee blankets that we could use freely. Occasionally, strong winds blew, creating a beautiful petal shower effect, but also causing items on the table to fly around (laughs). I used a napkin to hold down the cutlery basket. I was tempted by the set menu, but considering the wind and my plans for later, I opted for the Shrimp Gratin (with a mini salad) and an Iced Tea. First, they brought out the salad. Baby leaves were flying everywhere. Then came the piping hot gratin. It was delicious and really warmed me up. The Iced Tea had a refreshing, unassuming taste. The potato chips that came with the sandwich at the neighboring table were flying in the air, but the staff handled it calmly and efficiently as expected.

Visited Tohaku for the second time this year, paying 1,700 yen for two people. The first time was for the traditional New Year's visit to the museum, and this time was to see the calligraphy of Yan Zhenqing, which started on the 16th. After looking around, we headed to the garden terrace. We ordered the craft tea set. The craft tea looked beautiful and I liked it. The set came with almond cookies for 850 yen, and although we were told we could have 2-3 cups, we reached our limit after the second cup. Both the tea and cookies were not outstanding in terms of taste, but they were satisfying and had good value for money. Thank you for the meal.

Roulé Blanc with fresh fruits on the side, thank you for the Kir Royale. (2019.1.2) *A cocktail made with Hotel Okura's original sparkling wine "Remange," featuring a pleasant acidity of cassis and carbonation.

While my husband was on a business trip in Tokyo, I had a dream-like day when I visited the "Insect Exhibition" at the Science Museum and the "Jomon Exhibition" at the Tokyo National Museum. It was a mix of excitement and awe. After the insect exhibition, I went to the restaurant inside the Horyuji Treasure Museum on the grounds of the Tokyo National Museum. It's actually a restaurant from Hotel Okura♡ It was not crowded, and I enjoyed the Beef Stroganoff there. The difference between Hayashi and Beef Stroganoff is that Hayashi is tomato sauce-based, while Beef Stroganoff is demi-glace sauce-based, but it's a bit vague. It was served in a silver sauce pot, which made me happy. I wonder if the saffron color in the saffron rice is real? When it's Okura, it feels more elegant than my usual lunch♡ It was a day of leisurely strolling in Ueno Park♬ Actually, one day is not enough!

In July 2018, I visited Tokyo for a trip. On the first day, I left Sendai early for a pre-stay and headed to the Tokyo National Museum. The air was hot as soon as I got off at Ueno. I was there for a special exhibition, so I explored the expansive grounds all the way to the back. Despite the crowded place, I thoroughly enjoyed it, and then it was time for lunch. I knew from beforehand that there were several dining options on the premises, so I chose this place at the back where it didn't seem too crowded. It wasn't long before I was seated as it was past the lunch hour. According to the reviews I had read earlier, I was quite lucky. However, the original plan changed as it was just too hot and I had no appetite... After some consideration, I opted for the Sandwich Set of the day for 1,628 yen (with coffee or tea). On this day, it was a bagel with a choice of two fillings. The ham and cheddar cheese sandwiches arrived. The bagel sandwich was served with the salad and ham on the side. I realized later that the bagel and cheese had been reheated separately, so you could assemble them yourself, which was a nice touch. With a fork and knife provided, I set up the fillings and enjoyed my sandwich. The tea came with a pitcher of milk, which was a nice touch. Although the beef stroganoff looked delicious, I wasn't feeling up to it and skipped it. The exhibition at the museum was truly impressive, so I hope to come back another time and try the plate lunch with renewed energy.

Convenient restaurant for after visiting dinosaur exhibitions, such as the one that impressed French visitor Sophie at the Horyu-ji Treasure Museum. Ueno can get very crowded, so we recommend taking a break here for restrooms, tea, etc. We have been slowly trying out the Western food here and enjoying the view outside. Next time, we definitely want to enjoy some tea and cake while listening to the following song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a1TXWY68Is4&feature=youtu.be. Have a pleasant and elegant time...☆

I heard about Hotel Okura's restaurant and had high expectations, but felt a bit disappointed. It is a restaurant where you can take a break after walking around the vast East Expo.

It's scorching hot outside. I visited the Jomon exhibition at the Tokyo National Museum and had lunch at the Hotel Okura Garden Terrace inside the museum. Despite the heat outside, the museum and the restaurant were cool and comfortable. I enjoyed a piping hot gratin that was delicious. The restaurant was quiet and not too crowded, so I could relax and enjoy my meal.

On a holiday afternoon, let's take a break at a cafe while visiting the Tokyo National Museum's Horyuji Treasure Museum. There is a somewhat hidden place called Garden Terrace. The cafe had about 70% of its seats filled, but we were seated promptly. Now, let's order. I had a Mont Blanc and coffee, while my wife had a New York cheesecake and coffee. The cake set arrived fairly quickly. The Mont Blanc seemed to be made with Western chestnuts and tasted just as I had imagined. My wife's New York cheesecake had a rich cheese flavor with little acidity, which we found quite delicious. The coffee had a good balance of bitterness and acidity, which suited our tastes. There are also terrace seats outside, which might be nice depending on the season. After walking around the museum and feeling tired, we were able to relax and enjoy our break. Thank you for the meal. Now, let's continue exploring the museum a bit more.

Recently, I saw articles on the Tokyo National Museum on Facebook almost every day. They were suggesting enjoying cherry blossoms, exhibitions, and a café. I completely forgot about that (laughs) and ended up seeing the Treasures of Saudi Arabia exhibition, exploring the Asian Gallery, and getting tired, so it was time for tea. We visited the café inside the Horyu-ji Treasure Museum. Although I still wanted to see more exhibitions, my back was starting to hurt... We managed to get in smoothly, perhaps because it was already close to dusk. We had walked quite a bit, so it was time for a sugar boost! I had a red tea chiffon cake with coffee. The beautifully shaped red tea chiffon cake came with a berry sauce, creating an elegant visual. Not only berries but also oranges and grapes were included, allowing us to enjoy fruits as well. My companion had a seasonal set of small cherry and oak leaf rice cakes. They were really small but very elegant. They came with Sencha from Ippodo Tea Co. in Kyoto. Japanese sweets are also great! Although the Somei Yoshino cherry blossoms were already past their peak, there were double cherry blossoms near the building, shining beautifully against the lovely water feature in front of the building, allowing us to continue enjoying spring. The fallen cherry blossoms floating on the water surface were also beautiful. The fading cherry blossoms may be sad, but the cherry blossoms blooming on the water surface have their own charm. It seems they have limited edition menu items for each exhibition, so I would like to come back when there is an exhibition that interests me. By the time we left, there was already a long line. It seems we had good timing... We were able to relax and rejuvenate at the elegant café in the hotel. Thank you for the meal~

I went to Tohaku for cherry blossom viewing, and it was really crowded. I thought it might be less crowded because it's a bit far from the main area, but I just made it in before they closed the entrance, and then had to wait in line again. They served traditional cherry blossom season tea and sweets. I had sakura mochi and kusa mochi, which were surprisingly small. But for 600 yen including tea, it was a good deal. My friend had chiffon cake.

After finishing the visit to Kan'eiji Temple in Ueno, where the cherry blossoms are in full bloom, we couldn't get a reservation at the French restaurant we always go to after visiting the cemetery. So, we decided to go to the Tokyo National Museum (Tohaku) for their "Cherry Blossom Viewing at the Museum" event. It's been a while since I last visited here, probably since I was 26 years old. I remember that back then, even people who didn't want to see the exhibits could sit on the benches inside the gate. The museum was crowded with people buying tickets to enter the spring garden, but luckily the restaurant we chose had availability for our 11 am reservation. I didn't know such a nice place existed here. Surrounded by lush greenery and cherry blossoms falling, with birds chirping, it was a peaceful and blissful lunchtime. The coffee after the meal was mild yet flavorful, and very delicious.
