At Matsukawa in Shibuya Tokyu Plaza, there are adult-like restaurants with a calm atmosphere for Shibuya. I was drawn to the menu item called "kyosui unagi" and couldn't resist ordering it. The eel looked plump and firm, but when I put it in my mouth, it melted and released a delicious flavor that paired well with the rice. It was tasty without any unpleasant taste.

I was researching lunch options at Tokyu Plaza and came across Matsukawa, a famous eel restaurant from Shibuya. I contacted them the day before and made a lunch reservation as advised for June or July. When I arrived on the day, there were a few people waiting. We were seated in a semi-private room and quickly decided on the lunch menu. I ordered the recommended Unagi Ju Sakura for 4,400 yen. When I placed my order, they asked if I wanted liver with my eel, showing attention to detail. The eel was tender and the liver was delicious. I am glad that Matsukawa is located in Tokyu Plaza. The main branch requires crossing the scramble intersection in Shibuya, but this location is directly connected to the station, making it convenient. I would like to visit when I go to Shibuya. The restroom on the floor is also clean.

I visited a restaurant called "Shibuya Matsukawa Tokyu Plaza Shibuya Store" on a holiday in May 2023 around 11 am. Located on the 6th floor of Tokyu Plaza Shibuya, just a 1-minute walk from Shibuya Station, the restaurant was not too crowded. I sat at a table by myself and ordered the "Unagi Ju (Sakura)" for ¥4,840. The dish arrived after about 12-13 minutes, consisting of grilled eel with liver, pickles, and white azuki bean soup. The eel was steamed and then grilled to perfection, with a delicious sauce that wasn't too salty. The rice was cooked just right and absorbed the flavors of the sauce well. The meal was satisfying and had a good portion size. I enjoyed the eel dish while snacking on the pickled cabbage and cucumber. The fragrant sansho pepper on the table enhanced the flavors of the eel dish. I also tried the eel liver soup, which had a rich umami flavor and a refreshing finish. It complemented the eel dish perfectly. Eating the eel dish, liver soup, and pickles in a balanced way made me feel happy. After the meal, I had the white azuki bean soup, which was just the right amount of sweetness and had high-quality red beans. I enjoyed it with hot hojicha tea. Overall, the dining experience at Matsukawa in Shibuya was of high quality and made me feel happy, despite the slightly high prices. I would recommend this restaurant for those looking for good eel in Shibuya.

At Shibuya Matsukawa, I had the eel rice bowl (Fuji). I happened to pass by a eel restaurant and was drawn in. It was a Kanto-style eel, fluffy and tender. The sauce and sansho pepper were mild. The pickles were cucumber, Chinese cabbage, and Nara pickles. I also had eel liver and sweet red bean soup. Lately, I've been preferring the Kansai-style grilled eel, but sometimes the Kanto-style is nice too. Today, I am satisfied once again. It cost 5,500 yen.

It's been a while since I had eel, and I was feeling excited. Fukurasu in Shibuya is a very quiet place. Tonight, my mother treated me, so I decided to go for a set meal instead of ordering individual items. I chose the "Eel Rice Box Special" because it looked delicious. However, I couldn't resist ordering the eggplant pickles as well. The staff politely asked if I wanted the pickles included in the set, but I really wanted to try them, so I ordered them separately. It was a great choice! The set meal included chawanmushi with two shrimp, decent tuna sashimi with fresh wasabi, excellent sand borer tempura with no dipping sauce, amazing oyster simmered in sansho pepper, and delicious liver sashimi. The eel rice box came in a beautiful container, but the taste was a bit light for my liking. Overall, it was a satisfying meal and a nice treat to have eel here. The restaurant was clean and the staff was professional, although it was a bit embarrassing to have three waiters standing nearby. I might come back for lunch next time.

Since the branch that used to be on the Tokyu side is gone, I used to go to the main store next to the scramble intersection. But I found out they also have a branch in Tokyu Plaza, so I decided to check it out. Every year, when it comes to eel, I always eat at Matsukawa so the taste is unquestionable. The restaurant has many semi-private table seats and a spacious interior, so the wait seems to be short. The problem is, they hang curtains in the semi-private rooms to completely block the view, so the staff seem to be slacking off. Before, they were very attentive and would quickly come over when the tea ran out, but now that the customers' gaze is blocked, they chat loudly in the restaurant aisle. The content of their conversation is so loud that it can be heard clearly, which I find quite problematic. The manager is a veteran whom I have seen at other restaurants, so I hope he can manage the situation better. However, the eel here is delicious so I will definitely go back.

I went here looking for hitsumabushi during lunchtime in Shibuya. The restaurant has a calm atmosphere with a traditional Japanese feel. The hitsumabushi had a good amount of condiments, making it easy to enjoy different flavors. The portion of rice and eel was a bit small, but it was elegant and refined. This restaurant is perfect for business meetings or other formal occasions.

It's funny that it's closed. I had the Unatamaju for 2200 yen. The rice is free to refill. I ate it with seaweed, which you can't get anymore. The tea has become two bags now.

The Shibuya Matsukawa branch was located in Tokyu Plaza, so I decided to drop by since I had some time. I ordered the "Fuji" (4,950 yen), which is priced based on the size of the eel. They steam it thoroughly and lightly grill it, which seems to be their style. It lacks a strong smoky flavor, but you can enjoy the fluffy texture. The sauce is on the lighter side, which personally I find just right. Sometimes the sauce can overpower the taste, but here it's just perfect. I sprinkled some sansho pepper on half of it and enjoyed my meal. Thank you for the delicious meal.

Menu - Kyousui is available. One "Takumi" eel weighing 170g, and two "Kiwami" eels. The sizes seem to differ because they are farm-raised. I opted for the 260g size. There are various menu options. For your information, it's from Miyazaki. Liver sucking is surprisingly crunchy! But it has a strong eel smell. Yes! It's fluffy and tender. I think it's quite delicious. But the cost performance is not great. It's close to a 3P size, maybe even a 4P. It's not incredibly fluffy, but there are many bones. There is a slight hint of odor. If it were 2000 yen cheaper, it would be reasonable. Houjicha (roasted green tea) was served after the meal.

Visited Matsukawa at Tokyu Plaza 6th floor in Shibuya Station for lunch. It was my first time on the restaurant floor of Tokyu Plaza, and it seemed like all the restaurants were not crowded even around 12pm. I was guided to a small and clean private room, where I ordered the eel rice bowl. While waiting, a nicely grilled eel rice bowl arrived! The eel was steamed and grilled to perfection, tender and the sauce was refreshing. I sprinkled plenty of sansho pepper on it, although I personally wished for a stronger scent of sansho. I finished it all, including the dessert of white rice cake and sweet red bean soup. It was interesting to see a traditional eel restaurant from Shibuya in the new Tokyu Plaza restaurant floor. Thank you for the meal.

This is Matsukawa-san's first visit in 2 years. The eel here is really delicious! On this day, we had the "Fuji" eel bento box. You can have it without the liver, but of course, you should try the liver too. Thank you for the meal.

It's been a while since I went to Shibuya at night. The calm interior of the restaurant has sofa seats where you can enjoy a relaxing tea time. It was my first time having alcohol and eel in a while, but the delicious snacks made the drinks and conversation flow smoothly.

Location: Shibuya Fukurasu, Tokyu Plaza Shibuya 6F. There is a shared parking lot with 49 spaces, but driving there can be intimidating. The eel served is domestically farmed, available in two types: normal and "kyosui," with four grades each. I tried the cheapest option, "kyosui" (¥5,500). It took only 7 minutes from ordering to serving, impressively quick. The portion size was generous. The eel was steamed and lightly grilled, with high-quality fat and a light yet rich flavor. The sauce was not overly sweet, with a low viscosity and a clean finish. The rice was fluffy, shiny, and piping hot, perfectly soaked in the sauce. The meal also came with eel liver and pickles. Unlike in other places, the "kyosui" option here is served in an "ajiro" (stacked box) instead of a bowl, which was a bit disappointing.
