Recently opened shop in Musashi-Koyama shopping street that specializes in warabi mochi. I got a small portion to go. The warabi mochi was generously coated in kinako powder, with kuromitsu (black syrup) available for purchase separately. It was fluffy but also had a gooey texture, just like the name of the shop suggests. Warabi mochi is definitely a must-have in the summer. Delicious! Thank you for the meal!

In April 2022, a warabi mochi specialty store opened in the shopping street of Musashi-Koyama. I tried a warabi mochi drink as a snack while walking around, and it was a sweet treat that really hit the spot. It seems like there is a quiet warabi mochi boom happening, with more and more specialty stores popping up.

A specialty store for bracken rice cakes has appeared in Musashi-Koyama, so we decided to stop by at the request of my wife. Located along the street of Musashi-Koyama shopping district, the store itself is not very large but has a small seating area. We ordered a set of 4 bracken rice cakes with soybean flour and chocolate, and a bracken rice cake drink (strawberry). It seems they knead the rice cakes after receiving the order. And when we saw them, slightly larger bracken rice cakes appeared!! The characteristic is the smoothness that melts in your mouth, so I recommend eating it with plenty of soybean flour. The chocolate with cocoa powder sprinkled on top breaks the conventional image, which was an interesting product considering that bracken rice cakes have a strong Japanese image. As for the bracken rice cake drink, it is a new concept product with a smooth mouthfeel and throat sensation. It is not too sweet, and I think it would be delicious even in the middle of summer. It was a good decision to stick with 4 pieces because it's quite filling (lol).

Mukou Musako is a warabimochi specialty store that opened in April next to Yukawa and Marutaka Suisan in the Musashi Koyama Palm Shopping Street. It is a franchise chain operated by Torori Tenshi no Warabimochi Co., Ltd., and as of June, they have expanded to 101 stores nationwide. The store is small with only a takeout counter. Their menu includes fresh warabimochi, cream warabimochi, and drinkable warabimochi, each with various flavor options. I purchased a set of three different colors of fresh warabimochi for 950 yen. It was limited to 10 sets, but they said they would make it if I could wait a bit. I chilled it in the refrigerator until evening before eating. The texture was very smooth and it melted instantly in my mouth. It tasted best when eaten cold and did not harden. The matcha had a nice aroma, the chocolate was slightly western-style and sweet, but I still prefer the kinako flavor. It melted so quickly that I finished it in seconds. They use a rare "honwarabi powder" made from only 70g of the root part of 10kg of warabi mountain vegetables, and they sweeten it with Japanese sugar, but 950 yen is quite expensive. The kinako warabimochi at 200g for 600 yen is also a pricey treat. The drinkable warabimochi shake costs 680 yen. It seems a bit too expensive compared to the occasional purchase of kuzumochi. There was a signboard from the comedy duo Kamaitachi, who were featured on TV. I hope their popularity continues to grow.

While strolling through the Musashi-Koyama shopping street, I found a shop selling bracken rice cakes. This shop, with its main store in Osaka, has been expanding its franchise nationwide in Kanto, Kansai, and Kyushu. I didn't know this when I visited, but later when I went to Matsumoto in June, I found out that there was a long line, and it was a franchise store. Now there are also shops in Yamanashi Prefecture where I live, and they are rapidly increasing. They were also selling a "bracken rice cake drink," but I opted for the classic bracken rice cake. They use a precious "real bracken flour," which can only be harvested in small amounts from 10kg of the root of the bracken vegetable. It had a chewy and bouncy texture, but personally, I found it a bit too sweet. If I have the chance, I would like to try the bracken rice cake drink. It seems sweet though.

I had been curious about it, and I happened to have some business in Musashi-Koyama, so I was able to go there. It was raining that day, so there were few people in Musashi-Koyama, and I was able to order quickly. The Warabi Mochi drink looked sweet, but it was just the right amount of sweetness. The Warabi Mochi melted in my mouth and was delicious. I will definitely go back when I visit Musashi-Koyama again.

I tried the drinkable warabi mochi with matcha for 680 yen. It was my first time trying drinkable warabi mochi, and I was surprised that I could drink it through a thick straw instead of eating it. It still had the chewy texture of warabi mochi. It was really delicious.

On April 17, 2022, I visited this shop for the first time while drunk during a daytime drinking session. This shop is a chain store that sells traditional Japanese sweets, including warabi mochi, with 81 locations nationwide from Hokkaido to Okinawa. While some shops offer seating, this one is takeout only. It is located near the Hiratsuka Bridge in the Musashikoyama Palm Shopping Street, about a 7-minute walk from Musashikoyama Station, next to Marutaka Suisan. The menu includes: - Warabi mochi to drink (680 yen) in flavors like milk tea, black honey, matcha, and sakura mochi (limited time). - Warabi mochi (200g/600 yen, 400g/1080 yen, black honey 50 yen) with options like wasanbon sugar and azuki beans. - Pure cream warabi mochi (4 pieces for 1800 yen) in flavors like plain, black sesame, and roasted green tea. I tried the "Warabi mochi" (200g/600 yen) which came with 5-6 pieces and plenty of kinako powder. The "Black honey" (50 yen) was free for following their Instagram account and was a delicious combination with the kinako. I also had the "Warabi mochi to drink" (680 yen) in the limited-time sakura mochi flavor, which had a refreshing and rich taste. The whipped cream on top was tasty, but a bit difficult to eat once the warabi mochi was finished. Overall, the shop's focus on warabi mochi is impressive, and I hope it becomes a staple in Musashikoyama.

They offer a unique dish called "Nama Warabi Mochi with Wasanbon" for 600 yen, with an option to add black honey for 50 yen. It has a texture like never before, very soft and smooth. They also serve a drinkable Warabi Mochi with matcha for 680 yen, which can be sipped through a straw. It seems like they are expanding their stores in various locations, so it will be interesting to see what they come up with next.

I happened to be walking in a shopping street when I saw a TV camera and wondered what was going on. It turned out that a new store was opening, so I decided to check it out. I arrived just before 10 am and there was already a line formed, with me being around 10th in line. The store opened promptly at 10 am. Since it was my first time, I listened to the orders of the people in front of me while waiting for my turn. Many of the customers were elderly and took some time to decide on their orders, so the wait was a bit longer than expected. By the time it was my turn, I had my order ready. I purchased the Fresh Warabi Mochi (with Wasanbon sugar and red bean), Cream Warabi Mochi (with bran, black sesame, roasted green tea), and Drinkable Warabi Mochi (with cherry blossom flavor). You can add black syrup to the Fresh Warabi Mochi for an additional 50 yen, but I decided to try it without this time. The Drinkable Warabi Mochi looked cute and pretty, but I ended up drinking it while walking and forgot to take a picture. The Fresh Warabi Mochi had kinako powder sprinkled on top for both the Wasanbon sugar and red bean flavors. The red bean was mixed into the Warabi Mochi, so there were no whole beans, just a different color, and the taste was similar. The Cream Warabi Mochi can last for 3 days in the fridge, so I tried it the next day. It came in a cup with cream on top of the Warabi Mochi. The chewiness of the Warabi Mochi made it a bit difficult to eat with the small spoon provided. It's better to use a proper spoon at home. It also came with kinako powder, and I tried it on both the black sesame and roasted green tea flavors. The kinako powder contained sugar and salt, and while the Mochi was tasty on its own, it was even better with the kinako powder. I recommend trying both ways. The photos are of the Fresh Warabi Mochi and the Drinkable Warabi Mochi (matcha) that I purchased later.
