On November 12, 2021, a customer asked, "Do you know a place where Shanghai crab is delicious?" I visited again that day and ordered a la carte dishes along with Shanghai crab. Of course, there are course menus available as well, but if there are Chinese people present who can read the menu, ordering a la carte is also a good option. We started with a "assorted appetizers" including minced sea cucumber and tofu, sweet and sour spare ribs, char siu, and drooling chicken. Even though we didn't order a course menu, I was satisfied with the char siu that I like, and the seasoning was gentle. The first appetizer was a good size. Next, we had "steamed three-yellow chicken," which is a famous local chicken in Shanghai. It is steamed and has a texture similar to Singaporean chicken rice, but the yellow skin sets it apart. It is served with a soy sauce and ginger dipping sauce, and the meat is tender and slightly pink near the bones. Then we had "stir-fried river shrimp," a rare delicacy in Japan. The meat is firm and tender, seasoned with salt, but you can also drizzle vinegar on it to your liking. It's best enjoyed in one bite with a spoon. We also tried the "spicy stir-fried cauliflower and pork belly," which is seasoned with miso, doubanjiang, Sichuan peppercorns, and chili peppers. It's spicy and a bit oily, but it may go well with white rice. The highlight of the meal was the "Shanghai crab," both male and female priced at 4,000 yen each. In November, the females with eggs are delicious, while the males are in season from mid-November, with rich and creamy roe. Shanghai crabs are known for their particularly sweet meat. The staff will even help you remove the shells at no extra cost, making it easy for those who are unsure how to eat them. For dessert, we had a white wood ear and ginkgo nut soup. As a complimentary treat, it was refreshingly sweet. We enjoyed two beers, five highballs, and a bottle of Shaoxing wine "Shikumen Xiankou." The owner and chef of this restaurant is from Shanghai, so the flavors are authentic and not tailored to suit Japanese tastes, allowing you to experience the true taste of Shanghai cuisine. This place is recommended for those who find eating Shanghai crab troublesome or are unsure how to eat it. The total bill for two people was 29,300 yen. Thank you for the wonderful meal.
