On a weekday just after 12 o'clock, about a 5-minute walk from Tahara-cho Station, I suddenly developed a craving for tororo (grated yam). Google recommended a famous tororo buffet in Asakusa, but I didn't want so much, so I ended up at this place. Along Asakusa Street, with a small storefront. A big takeout menu sign and a sky-blue banner as my target. The interior looks like a former snack bar, with two tables on the left and a counter with 5 seats in the back. A naturally cute lady running the place solo. Many bottles of island shochu on the counter. The background music alternates between sea-themed enka songs and announcements from a ferry to the Izu Islands. I wonder if this is a deliberately curated album or the owner's original idea. Either way, listening to this while drinking shochu from the Izu Seven Islands would surely lead to a tipsy trip in my mind. The counter had the evening menu laid out, and just reading it got me excited... But it's still work hours, and alcohol is probably not allowed yet. So, as planned, I ordered the following: Mugi-toro pork miso soup set 650 yen Homemade soft-boiled egg 150 yen Tomorrow's leaf ohitashi 150 yen Although it's mainly for takeout now, you can eat in as well, with takeout-style containers. Soon, the set arrived in paper and plastic containers. The long-awaited tororo. Sweetly seasoned tororo. The rice was barley, not too strong. Since I was craving tororo, it was naturally the best and satisfying. The soft-boiled egg was well-seasoned. It worked well as a flavor enhancer with the tororo rice. The tomorrow's leaf ohitashi had a firm texture. This is undoubtedly the miraculous herb of eternal youth and longevity. The pork miso soup had a refreshing taste with strong red miso, lean pork, carrots, daikon, and tomorrow's leaf. Including tomorrow's leaf here too, I won't be sick for a while. On the large LCD TV in front of the counter and above the entrance, there was a continuous video of tourist information about the Izu Islands. Rows of island shochu bottles were lined up on the counter. How could you not want to drink with this setup? I inadvertently developed a craving for tororo, so when the alcohol ban is lifted, I want to visit this place again. By the way, they accept credit cards and electronic payments. Very convenient. I'll be back next month. I must try that island rum on the counter next time. Thank you for the wonderful meal.
