- I had been hearing about "Truffle Pan" for quite some time now. The closest location was at Shinbashi Station, but since I don't have a commuter pass, I don't take the JR line. But then, unexpectedly, they opened a branch at Okachimachi Station! And it's located outside the ticket gates, so even cyclists can easily access it. It's said that there's always a long line at Shinbashi Station, but here at Okachimachi Station, the line is surprisingly short. Maybe it's not well-known yet in this age of overflowing information.
Usually, these kinds of shops are mostly frequented by women, not so much by middle-aged men like me. But in the Okachimachi-Ameyoko area, there are hardly any young office ladies around. That might explain why it's not crowded. I've never seen any men among the customers in front of the shop, except for me. But I'm here to make my bread-loving recluse friend happy.
As I stand in line, trying not to get too close to the window where a woman is in front of me, I reach the showcase and find a surprisingly wide variety of bread. It's overwhelming, and I can't decide. I panic as I try to choose. Probably, none of my middle-aged friends would be able to take their time deciding either.
In the end, I choose the star of the show, the "White Truffle Salt Bread," "Cacao Nibs," and "Adult Raisin Cream Sandwich." I pay for them and have them put in a TRUFFLE mini paper bag.
- White Truffle Salt Bread: I thought the truffle aroma would be more intense, but it's just right. The bread is soft and fluffy, and as you eat, the truffle aroma lingers around you. The saltiness is just right, making it delicious, and the size is perfect.
- Cacao Nibs: The chocolate aroma is incredible, with chocolate oozing from both the top and bottom of the bread. The bread itself is soft and moist, with a perfect mix of cocoa, making it delicious.
- Adult Raisin Cream Sandwich: The bread is chewy and substantial, with the rum aroma accompanying every bite. It's not overpoweringly alcoholic, but it adds to the deliciousness without becoming monotonous.
There were many other bread varieties I'd like to try. I'll definitely be using this place more often.
