Ueno Okachimachi, on the central street, there is a building on the 7th floor with a mushroom hot pot restaurant. I had always been curious about it, but I heard that the portion size was quite large, so I gave up. Now, for the New Year's party, we were discussing with our usual group of friends when a junior colleague suggested this place. They had visited with a friend before and found it cheap and delicious, but the portions were so big that they had to take leftovers home and eat for three days. With four people, it might be good. We couldn't make a web reservation, so we called. The phone was answered in Chinese, but when they realized we were Japanese, they switched to Japanese. We visited on a weekday, Thursday night. All the customers seemed to be Chinese, and it was quite crowded. The unique feature here is the huge iron pot dishes embedded in the tables, about 40cm in diameter. Each table had one in the middle for two people, but we had two sets on our table. Underneath the pot table, there was a gas stove. The menu had 10 iron pot dishes, all with large and beautiful photos. We decided to try the specialty iron pot dish, which was different from the typical Japanese hot pot style. The cooking was done by the staff, and it took about 30 minutes from putting the ingredients in the pot to completion. The taste was hard to describe, but it was delicious with a strong garlic flavor and tender vegetables. We also ordered a special bread from the northeastern region of China. It was quite heavy and difficult to peel off from the pot. We couldn't finish everything and had to leave some ribs, but overall, it was a satisfying experience. We wanted to try dessert, but they were sold out. The bill came out to be 9,905 yen in total, about 2,500 yen per person. It was cheap, delicious, and fun, and we all left very satisfied. We would like to try more dishes next time with a larger group.
