I visited Akasaka Matsubaya Honten again this month, following last month's visit. In September and October, they are serving a special course featuring matsutake mushrooms. I enjoyed dishes such as steamed matsutake mushrooms, sukiyaki with matsutake mushrooms and Hida beef, and matsutake mushroom rice. The matsutake mushrooms seemed to be from somewhere other than China or North America based on the color of the caps. The aroma was wonderful, especially the steamed matsutake mushrooms. I also had a Kirin beer and sake with my meal, even though it was lunchtime. Please note that while you could have unlimited servings of matsutake mushroom rice at the old location, now you are limited to one serving, as indicated on their website.

I went to the main store of Akasaka Matsubaya, which has stores selling tsukudani and sesame tofu in a department store. Originally, it was located near Akasaka Station in a building like a traditional Japanese restaurant, but it seems to have been relocated, with the store now a short walk from Akasaka Station and Akasaka-Mitsuke Station. The meal was served one dish at a time, with the main dish being Hida beef shabu-shabu. There were two types of dipping sauces, ponzu and sesame sauce, with the sesame sauce tasting like it contained sake lees. The rice dish was eel rice, and the dessert was sweet bean jelly.

I received a New Year's gift, thank you for the feast. My daughter finished all the sea bream tea rice while visiting home, haha. Without the picture, this clear soup with mitsuba is delicious with a hint of luxury. I should order it online next time. Thank you for the matsutake mushroom soup and sea bream tea rice! (^^)v
