This was my first visit to this restaurant, which has been open since 2009, so it's already a veteran in the field. It's a well-known place for curry lovers. The area around Shimo-Kitazawa was bustling with people as the year-end approached. Although there wasn't a line forming outside, the restaurant was almost full. I decided to order the chicken and keema curry with an extra side of jalapenos, instead of the famous black katsu curry. Shortly after, the black katsu curry sold out. The restaurant, owned by Takashi Matsuo, had a unique atmosphere with theater posters outside and a somewhat underground entertainment vibe inside. When asked if I wanted it spicy or normal, I chose spicy. The chicken was tender and the spiciness built up slowly, but the flavor was also gradually developing. The keema, with its strong grilled flavor, was dry and had a hint of sweetness from the meat. The contrast between the dry keema and tender chicken made for a delicious combination. Mixing them together created a curry that was even more flavorful. The restaurant had a high percentage of solo female customers and young couples, showing that it continues to be popular in Shimo-Kitazawa. Just like in Kanda and Jimbocho in the east, Shimo-Kitazawa has also embraced curry culture with events and a strong curry presence in the town. The areas of Shimo-Kitazawa, Koenji, and Nishi-Ogikubo all seem to have an increasing number of Japanese-owned curry restaurants. It's an interesting and appealing trend.

I finally got to try Nenganpanya! I lined up about 10 minutes before the store opened on Saturday and was able to get in on the first round. The curry was delicious, and the pork cutlet was amazing. The portion size was good, even though the curry was a bit watery. By the time I finished eating, I was sweating a lot because the air conditioning wasn't working well. Luckily, it was a slightly cool day.

I first had curry at KALPASI in Shimokitazawa, but my stomach was still not satisfied, so I decided to continue on with my curry journey. I heard that PANNYA CAFE CURRY is a well-known spot in the curry battleground of Shimokitazawa, so I decided to give it a try. It was during lunchtime but there were not many customers, so I was able to get a table right away. The interior of the restaurant is spacious with about 5 tables, and there is a shelf displaying original retort curry and goods. I ordered the Mahakatsu Curry, which had a striking black coating. I chose the spicy level to be hot. The curry arrived in about 15 minutes. The curry had a watery consistency and the rice was cooked to be on the softer side. The spiciness was not as strong as I expected, more like a medium level. However, it was delicious. The katsu was thin with a light coating, and the meat inside was lean, giving it a healthy feel. While the katsu was somewhat mild on its own, when combined with the curry, the soft rice mixed well with it, and the katsu did not overpower the curry. Overall, the taste and value may not have been exactly to my liking, but it was still a good meal.

The line was right on the edge of not forming when I arrived (15 minutes after opening). I ordered the Mahakatsu Curry, Pickled Watermelon Rind Katsu, and Shabu Shabu Curry. The great thing is that the katsu is deliciously crispy but light in flavor. It doesn't overpower the curry, and the katsu is really tasty. The spiced Shabu Shabu Curry is, of course, delicious! It pairs perfectly with the rice, making it a fantastic dish. This katsu curry is top-notch!

The shop is located in Shimokitazawa, so it's definitely a trendy place. It was really well-designed lol This time, I ordered the pork cutlet curry!! I also added the Yagen Nankotsu Achaar for around 1500 yen. The taste is really delicious, especially the flavor of the pork cutlet stands out. However, compared to Watanabe Curry, in terms of cost performance, it's a bit lower.

I went to Pan-ya with my friends for the first time in a month! I love unique and elaborate curries, and among them, I really love the curry here. It's a bit far from my house so I can't go often, but I would love to go again when I'm in the area!

The song of Kiyoshiro Imawano is playing. For some reason, I feel like this kind of music is often played in curry restaurants I have visited (especially in Osaka). I ordered the Mahakatsu Curry (¥1,580). About 80% of the people in the restaurant seemed to have ordered the same dish. The distinctive feature is the jet-black cutlet. The crispy texture is quite satisfying. One could say that the curry flavor is actually meant to complement this black cutlet. I recommend it to those who want a hearty curry. There were quite a few female customers as well.

I topped my spicy curry with chicken and keema with jalapeno pickles. I couldn't decide between the Mahakatsu curry with black cutlet! The curry was on the watery side with tender chicken and mutton keema. The mutton keema didn't have a strong taste of mutton, so even those who are not fans of mutton should be fine. You can choose between medium spicy and spicy, and I chose spicy, but it wasn't very spicy for spice lovers, so I recommend topping it with jalapeno pickles for extra heat! The jalapeno pickles are spicier. It was delicious. I also want to try the Mahakatsu curry next time.

I had the Mahakatsu Curry for 1580 yen. I have had it as a takeout before, but this was my first time dining in at the restaurant. It was delicious as a takeout, but eating it at the restaurant made it even more special. Among curry restaurants in Tokyo, this is one of my top favorites.

I got off at the curry battleground of Shimokitazawa for the first time. I saw a highly-rated curry restaurant and was drawn to the black cutlet, so I visited with a colleague for the first time. I ordered the cutlet curry, and my colleague ordered the chicken curry. The cutlet was average, but the curry was delicious and impactful. I will definitely come back.

I just finished a business meeting around lunchtime near Shimokitazawa Station, so I searched on Tabelog for a place to eat! This area seems to be a fierce battleground for curry, with many top-ranked restaurants like the best in 2022 and the top 5000. Since it's really hot today, I decided to look for a curry shop with a slight Japanese twist rather than authentic Indian curry, and I locked onto this place. I was intrigued by the black cutlet curry, so I chose this shop located on a narrow street close to the station. I bought a meal ticket and started eating. The curry was on the watery side, and when asked if I wanted it spicy or medium spicy, I chose medium, but it wasn't that spicy. The medium spicy at Java Curry is even spicier. The level of curry here is high, as expected in a curry battleground, but the cutlet, despite its distinctive appearance, tasted average. Since the atmosphere of the restaurant was nice, I noticed that there were often pairs of female customers. Oh, and I saw two young women cooking the curry in the kitchen. It must be tough with all the physical work involved. The service was also pleasant, and it was a very good restaurant. Thank you for the meal.

I finally got to eat the long-awaited curry at Pan nya-san, drawn in by its visual appeal! I was able to enter without waiting in line as it was just before the last order, but the restaurant was still quite crowded with customers. The pork cutlet was incredibly crispy, almost crunchy! It paired perfectly with the curry, which had a light and spicy flavor. The tomato paste and cabbage pickles on the side added a nice touch for flavor variation, which was also fantastic. You can choose between medium-spicy or spicy when ordering the curry. The visually appealing spice curry was not just about looks, it was incredibly delicious! (It was so good that I wanted to lick the plate, but since it was a restaurant, I refrained.) It was delicious, thank you for the meal!

My sister and I went to Shimokitazawa for curry and coffee. We strolled around looking at a few places before deciding. We wanted something refreshing after walking in the hot summer sun, so we settled on this place. The interior had retro magazines and posters, along with ethnic-style clothing that reminded us of the subculture vibe of Shimokitazawa. It was so hot that we quickly wanted to sit down and drink some cold water. We looked at the menu on the ticket machine and made our choices. I ordered the lamb and chickpea dry curry, a favorite of mine since childhood, without hesitation. My sister ordered the chicken curry. As we waited for our curry, we chatted while drinking ice-cold water. When the curry arrived, it was a stylish dish with chunky chickpeas, coriander, chili sauce, cabbage pickles, and a vibrant boiled egg yolk. The chickpeas were sweet and fluffy, and the coriander and tangy chili sauce were refreshing. The cabbage pickles in between bites of dry curry helped cleanse the palate and add a refreshing touch. The dry curry was a bit dry, so the pickles and wateriness were a perfect match. The appearance and taste were satisfying. We felt just right in terms of fullness, so having coffee after the meal seemed like a perfect idea.

This is a curry restaurant opened by Takaishi Matsuo, who is active as a DJ, actor, and columnist. The name of the restaurant is "Hannya" which means "wisdom" in ancient Indian language. Their specialty is the "Mahakatsu Curry" which comes with bright red curry and yellow turmeric rice. You can choose the spiciness level from medium to very spicy. The katsu is black and made with breadcrumbs from squid ink bread. It has a crispy and fragrant coating that goes well with the light curry. It's actually quite light in flavor. They also have a second branch in Osaka that opened in 2012. Enjoy!

I heard that a famous restaurant from Osaka Fukushima opened in Shimokitazawa, so I decided to visit. I was surprised to see many young girls working as staff, and it seemed like they were talking about the Osaka restaurant as a thing of the past. The curry was delicious, but it was different from the Fukushima branch. It was a spicy curry with lots of vegetables, so it could be considered a genre of Osaka spicy curry. It's a shame that the taste of Fukushima is no longer there, but I would love to go curry-hopping in Shimokitazawa again!

According to a friend who loves curry, this place has the best curry, so I decided to visit. For those who are going for the first time, it may be a bit confusing to find as it is located in a back alley. Personally, I felt that the curry, priced at 1500 yen per serving, was a bit expensive. I prefer curry that is thick rather than soup curry, so it may not have suited my taste from the start. As for the black katsu, I didn't understand why it was that color, but it tasted average.

I went around 1 pm on Sunday. I was lucky to have a wait time of less than 10 minutes without waiting outside. I bought a meal ticket at the machine and handed it to the staff. I chose chicken and keema curry. The curry was thin like soup curry, but delicious. The chicken was tender. Especially the keema was delicious, and I wanted to eat more! It had been many decades since I last visited Shimokitazawa. I came here for this curry, and I'm really glad I did! I want to eat it again. Thank you for the meal.

In the evening, I wandered around Shimo-Kitazawa and waited for the restaurant to open before entering. I ordered the chicken curry, spicy. The rice was colored with saffron and had mixed grains, giving it a dry texture. It paired well with the smooth curry. It was a light and spicy curry. Next time, I want to try the black cutlet. It would definitely go well with this curry.

There is a curry restaurant in Shimokitazawa. It's about a 5-minute walk from the station, so it's very easy to get to. I visited around 11:30 on a weekday. There weren't many people at first, so I was able to enter easily, but it quickly filled up. I ordered the Mahakatsu Curry and a lassi. The curry was served in about 10 minutes. The darkness of the katsu's batter was impressive. The curry itself was light and slightly tangy. The crunchy texture of the sliced onions added a nice touch. The curry was easy to eat. The katsu was a bit thin, but that made it easy to eat. It was delicious.

Mahakatsu curry (spicy) is a watery curry known as "shaba-style". It feels like I haven't had it in a long time. There are not many shops that handle it, I think. It has a spicy flavor that seems addictive. I ordered it spicy, but as a spicy food lover, it was surprisingly easy to eat. The black cutlet was crispy and delicious, although I'm not sure why it's black. It was my first time combining a crispy cutlet with a watery curry, but the moisture from the cutlet soaked in and created a delicious combination. Thank you for the meal.

First time trying the curry at Shimokitazawa with added cilantro! The cilantro added a nice flavor to it. Had to pay with cash for the first time in a while because you can only order through the ticket machine. The curry was light and had a spicy flavor, and for some reason, I couldn't stop eating it with a spoon and before I knew it, it was all gone! I realized afterwards that I should have ordered the famous black cutlet curry.
