I always go to the family temple on Mukojima to visit the graves, and whenever I do, I always have a meal in the area before heading home. A few years ago, my favorite soba restaurant, Mifune, closed down, leaving me at a loss. But I discovered this new place called Kizuki, and this time I tried their funeral reception meal for the first time. We reserved a private room and ordered the funeral reception course meal for the number of people, as well as additional dishes. I was surprised to find that there were two beautiful private rooms on the second floor, a world away from the casual atmosphere on the first floor. The funeral reception course included seasonal dishes, tempura, sashimi, homemade soba, and a total of eight items. This meal was different from the typical funeral kaiseki, featuring dishes like eel and beef tongue, which was quite interesting. The eel dish was particularly delicious, and the rice had a nice texture, maybe it was mochi barley? The portion size of the course was just right. The service was also excellent, with the staff being friendly and attentive. Due to the impact of the pandemic, gatherings have become less frequent, but it was nice to have a leisurely meal while reminiscing about our loved ones. The changes in Mukojima are remarkable, with new restaurants popping up, transforming shuttered stores into cafes, and adding interesting new concepts. I almost forgot to mention, the funeral reception course here is only 4,400 yen per person, which seems quite affordable considering the private room and additional dishes and drinks included. This place is a hidden gem! Even though my familiar restaurant is gone, it's wonderful to have new encounters like this. Thank you for taking care of us, and I'll definitely visit again after the Higan festival. Thank you for the delicious meal! ♡
