<Order> Before the spring tendon event, I had a late lunch in Ikebukuro, where I switched trains. I ordered a spring-like tendon with bamboo shoot tempura. The sauce was quite strong and soaked well, so I ended up finishing all the rice, which I usually don't. I prefer a slightly lighter sauce, but once in a while, this was good too.

The day before my birthday, I suddenly felt like having tempura and Japanese sake...(^｡^) So, I chose Masumi. I had shrimp, oysters, sea bream, lotus root, butterbur sprouts, taranome, and wild vegetable tempura, and my favorite toppings kept coming. It was a bit crowded, so the service was not the best, but I was satisfied with the generous portion of tempura (^｡^) No complaints even with the mixed platter♪

Tenichi is a tempura restaurant that I often visit when I come to Seibu. On the first day of the new year, I went to Seibu and was very hungry, so the only place I could immediately enter was the counter at Tenichi. It's become a tradition for me to have my first meal of the year at Tenichi! I prefer tempura with seafood over vegetable tempura, so I always order the smallest set with yuzu and then add my favorite tempura. This time, the manager was manning the counter, and the tempura seemed even crispier and lighter than usual. The freshly fried tempura was so crispy, and the aroma of sesame oil was delightful. I added seasonal delicacies like shirako, clams, squid ink, and scallops. Among them, I particularly liked the shirako! I might even prefer it over shirako ponzu. It was creamy and rich, with a taste similar to egg yolk and a hint of seafood umami. I will definitely order it again if it's available. On the other hand, I preferred clams cooked in a broth like clam soup. It was my first time trying clam tempura, so it was a new experience for me. I took the tempura rice bowl to go, along with some tempura flakes, and thoroughly enjoyed my first dining out experience of the year. Thank you for the delicious meal! I will definitely be back again this year.

I had the tempura bowl at Matsuya, but the sauce was too light and not satisfying. I ordered extra rice, which made the flavor even less satisfying. The tempura itself was delicious, but some pieces had thick and hard batter, which wasn't good. The red miso in the condiments was too bitter for my taste. I managed to finish by using the generous amount of pickles provided, but I struggled to eat it all. Considering all this, paying 5,000 yen was a bit much.

I wonder if my expectations were too high for Tenichi. I ordered a pretty expensive lunch set, but for this price, the quality was a bit disappointing. If it was under 2,000 yen, it might be just acceptable, but going over that for this quality is a letdown. I recommend trying Kinzo Hanzo's tempura donburi at a similar price range or even a cheaper option. Or if you're in the same department store, try comparing it with Tsunahachi in Shinjuku Takashimaya. I'm not sure if this is just an issue with the Ikebukuro store, but I also tried the sushi restaurant on the same floor, and I had similar mixed feelings. I don't think I'll be revisiting this department store.

If you want to enjoy tempura in a casual setting, this place is highly recommended. You can also enjoy tempura using seasonal ingredients, and the cost performance of the alcohol is very good. I tend to drink too much. The interior of the restaurant is clean and cozy. Depending on the skills of the chef, there may be some differences in quality, but you can generally enjoy tempura consistently.

This time, I visited the "Ginza Tenichi Ikebukuro Seibu Store" in Seibu Ikebukuro, where you can experience the same taste as the famous Ginza Tenichi. Ginza Tenichi is a long-established tempura restaurant with its main store located in Ginza, where many prestigious old shops are crowded together. Established in 1930, it is a highly respected tempura restaurant loved by people from various fields including politics, business, and entertainment. The branch in Ikebukuro is located in a restaurant area inside a department store, where you can find many good restaurants. The exterior and interior have a calm atmosphere with a traditional Japanese feel. The menu items are priced a bit on the higher side. I ordered the Special Tendon (tempura rice bowl) priced at 3,564 yen. The tempura pieces were surprisingly large, but since they were served with a lid on top, the crispy texture was not well maintained. It's not easy to find a tempura bowl that retains its crispiness. I love shrimp, so I was satisfied with the large shrimp pieces! However, for those who want to truly enjoy delicious tempura, I think ordering tempura instead of a tempura bowl would be a better choice. Next time, I also want to try ordering tempura instead of a tempura bowl.

I visited Tenichi on the 8th floor of Seibu Department Store in Ikebukuro. It was just before 2 o'clock, so I was seated at a table for four. I had the recommended lunch, the "Take" tempura bowl for 1,925 yen. The broth was spicy, and it was refreshing to eat it with the grated daikon radish that was served on the side. The tempura included 2 shrimp, shishito peppers, eggplant, and other vegetables, as well as white fish, all elegantly arranged. The miso soup with clams was made with red miso, and had a slightly bitter taste with the rich flavor of Hachioji miso that Tokugawa Ieyasu loved. The hot tea served at the end of the meal was a nice touch. I enjoyed a leisurely lunch in the calm atmosphere of the restaurant.

I visited this restaurant for a family birthday celebration. It was my first time there, and we were able to enjoy a private room and relax with just our family. I ordered the recommended course menu, as well as some seasonal and individual tempura items (added bamboo shoot tempura, enoki mushroom tempura, and squid tempura). Each dish was brought to us freshly fried by the chef! So everything was truly freshly fried and delicious! The tempura batter was thin and elegant, making it easy to eat. The miso soup was also red miso and paired well with the rice. We ordered quite a bit and were pleasantly surprised by the great value for money! It came to just over 10,000 yen for the three of us.

Due to the coronavirus, most restaurants are closed, so today I bought a bento box from Ten Ichi. It was really delicious. The tempura bowl was soaked in plenty of sauce and had an amazing taste. The bento box was also well soaked in sauce and was excellent. It was very delicious.

I chose the monthly course (around 7700 yen including tax). First, I had the fried shrimp heads which were crispy and delicious. Next, I tried the shrimp meat which had a crispy, fluffy texture. The asparagus was average. I really liked the crispy kiss fish. The texture of the shiitake mushroom and shrimp was enjoyable. The scallop was crispy on the outside and half-cooked inside, which I also liked. The squid was okay. The chewy texture was nice. Finally, the highlight - the conger eel. It had a slightly oily smell. The green pepper wasn't particularly noteworthy. For the finale, I chose the tempura rice bowl, where I could choose between rice and tempura tea. The tempura was a bit heavy, so I went with the light tempura tea! I enjoyed it by gradually melting the wasabi. The Japanese broth and tempura paired well! It wasn't mind-blowing, but being in a department store, it's a calm and reasonably priced option. Easy to use, I think!
