In the heart of the town, there is a famous Bengali restaurant called Puja. It is located about an 8.3-minute walk from the station, and its entrance is a bit hidden, marked by a sign that says "Underground Entrance" and a gently spiraling staircase. Puja has been specializing in Bengali cuisine for over 20 years, offering traditional dishes from the region. The restaurant is run by a Japanese husband and Bengali wife, and the interior is adorned with a statue of the Hindu goddess Durga. One of their signature dishes is the Ilish Tara, a dish made with Hilsa fish cooked in mustard sauce. The heavy brass tableware adds to the traditional feel of the meal. The food is delicious, with flavors that will make you exclaim, "Bengali cuisine is delicious!" The menu also includes other Bengali dishes like Shorshe Ilish, Machhachop, Paronshakel Gonto, Analoser Chatni, and Rosogolla Rasgulla. Overall, the food is elegant, homey, and truly enjoyable. It's a place where you can experience the authentic flavors of Bengal cuisine.

I heard from a friend that this restaurant is the most famous for Bengali cuisine in Tokyo, so I chose it as a lunch spot during my ride on the Tokyo trolley. The restaurant has an ethnic space with altars dedicated to Ganesha and Lakshmi, and the aroma inside is also ethnic. I tried the black sea bream in mustard curry, which was spicy and had a slow-building heat, but the rich flavor of the simmered fish and the sweet curry sauce paired well with the rice. The side dishes of bean curry and vegetable curry were also delicious.

I visited this restaurant with high ratings on a gourmet website in a machiya for lunch. I was intrigued by a curry dish I saw online, but found out after sitting down that it wasn't available for lunch (laughs). I ended up ordering a set with two types of curry, shrimp curry and chicken curry. The rice served was not Japanese rice, but the type from their home country. The curry probably had an authentic taste, but it didn't suit my taste. However, the staff's smiles were nice, and I enjoyed the atmosphere of the restaurant with its exotic charm.

The A set costs 1200 yen and I added a fish croquette for 500 yen. On this day, there were 3 curry options to choose from - 1) Mustard Curry with Black Sea Bream, 2) Tomato Curry with Shrimp, and 3) Chicken Curry. I chose the Mustard Curry with Black Sea Bream and added a fish croquette because I heard that the fish here is delicious. However, my bike tire burst on the way to the restaurant, so I had to end my ride and find a nearby bike shop for repairs. The restaurant had a unique interior with Indian-style dolls and I had to wait until 12:00 for it to open. I made a reservation for a table with a time limit until 13:30. The Basmati rice had a refreshing flavor and came with dal. The dish had a lot of onions and fresh vegetables which added a nice texture and freshness. The Black Sea Bream curry was rich in flavor, but not too spicy. The croquette had a cheese flavor which complemented the fish well. Overall, it was a delicious meal.

Arakawa-ku Machiya is a place that is close to home but not well known to the public. However, it has been selected as one of the top 100 restaurants, so I made a reservation early. On the day of my visit, I chose the most expensive lunch option at 1800 yen, which includes three types of curry: shrimp, fish, and chicken. The rice is Thai rice, and it comes with a small salad, bean soup, and a plate of vegetables. The spices are flavorful but not too spicy, although I found it a bit salty. Overall, it was a good value for the price. The restaurant quickly filled up, so I was glad I made a reservation. It's a bit hard to find, about a 10-minute walk from Machiya Station, so it's best to arrive early. I also had a fish croquette for 500 yen and an Indian beer, bringing the total to around 3000 yen. It was delicious, but I personally preferred another Sri Lankan curry restaurant called Bandar Lanka that I visited with a different group last time. My vote goes to Bandar Lanka.

Asia Ethnic Top 100 Restaurants, a Bengali cuisine restaurant serving dishes from Eastern India, Bangladesh, and other regions. Located in a basement floor of Lions Mansion, a bit away from the townhouse, creating a shopping street-like atmosphere. The interior of the restaurant features a space where the most popular Hindu god, Lord Shiva, presides, creating a unique and atmospheric dining experience. The curries are surprisingly not too spicy but full of flavor. The tomato and sea bream curry is like a soup, and the chicken curry is delicious. Thank you for the meal.

I wanted to eat curry for lunch on a regular day, so I searched and found this Bengali cuisine restaurant. I had no prior knowledge about Bengali cuisine, so I decided to visit the restaurant without any expectations. The menu offered three types of curries for the day, with options to choose a set with one, two, or all three curries. The set included lentil curry, vegetable dish, salad, and Basmati rice. There was no naan available. Curious about Bengali cuisine, I chose the set with all three curries for 1800 yen. The three curries for the day were black sea bream mustard curry, chicken curry (made with Miyazaki Jidori chicken), and shrimp coconut curry. Bengali cuisine is known for using mustard in many dishes, and the black sea bream mustard curry was a unique and flavorful experience for me. The mustard's tangy flavor mixed with spices was surprisingly delicious. The chicken curry had a deep and rich flavor typical of Indian cuisine, and it was incredibly tasty. The shrimp coconut curry, which I usually avoid due to its sweetness, had a well-balanced flavor with a predominant coconut aroma and plump shrimp. The side vegetable dish, featuring potatoes seasoned with spices, was also delicious. Overall, each dish had a fresh and flavorful taste, making it a pleasantly surprising lunch experience. I highly recommend it to those who have not tried Bengali cuisine before!

The interior was sophisticated and had a very calming atmosphere. I ordered the lamb curry, and it was delicious with its unique flavor and perfect balance of spices. The service was attentive, and the timing from ordering to serving the food was just right. Watching the staff, I felt that the time spent here was not just about eating, but also about enjoying a pleasant experience. The cleanliness and comfort of the restaurant were also impressive. Based on this experience, I'm sure you will be satisfied not only with the food but also with the atmosphere and the staff's service.

I couldn't find it on the map search and wandered around, but it was underground. They were all delicious, but especially the black sea bream simmered in tamarind was extremely delicious... I want to eat it again! It feels like I've had it before? Or maybe not? It seems difficult to recreate at home. The restaurant had a quiet atmosphere.

Visited on Sunday at 11:30 (the first customer!!). I splurged on the 3 curry set for 1,800 yen. I chose Chicken Curry, Shrimp in Mustard Coconut Curry, and Sea Bream Curry (more like a curry stew). There were also side dishes like lentils and simmered potatoes. The vegetables had a salty taste. The Mustard Coconut Curry was a new flavor for me with a hint of mustard. But in the end, the safe choice of Chicken Curry was the most delicious (maybe because of my child's palate). The meat was tender. The lady at the restaurant was friendly and helped me choose the curry types. I asked for less rice, and she even checked if the portion was okay for me.

Thakurbarir Ranna - Tagore Family Cuisine (¥3,000) *Limited Menu This special set recreates the dishes that were once enjoyed at the home of the great poet Rabindranath Tagore (not to sound too poetic). Everyone else in the restaurant seemed to have ordered this set as well. We started with a taste of pineapple-infused bean curry, tomato ambol (similar to chutney), and beet paste. It was so delicious that we had to order extra rice! (Later found out that rice refills were complimentary) These recipes are probably from about 100 years ago. The use of spices is simple, but the flavors of the ingredients shine through in every dish. Each dish was as rich and deep in flavor as Tagore's poetry!

Bengali cuisine at Pooja in Machiya. Ordered the lunch set B, where you can choose 2 out of 3 curry options. Opted for the black sea bream tomato curry and shrimp coconut curry. The black sea bream curry had a unique flavor, more like spiced fish stew with bones to watch out for. The shrimp coconut curry was spicy and flavorful, pairing well with the basmati rice. The bean curry was also delicious, as well as the spiced vegetable dish. Although not a cheap lunch option, the quality of the food made it worth it. Would love to try the mustard curry next time.

[Shop Location] The shop is located on the basement floor, about a 5-minute walk from Machiya Station. [Visit Date and Time] Visited around 12:15 on a holiday, the shop was moderately crowded. [Atmosphere] The shop has a spacious layout and is underground, with slightly dim lighting. [Food] Ordered the C set: 1. Tomato curry with fish roe - The egg flavor has a slight unique taste, but goes well with the curry sauce, quite delicious. 2. Coconut curry with shrimp - Two plump shrimp, consistently tasty. 3. Chicken curry - Tenderly cooked chicken wings complement the unique curry sauce. [Service] The female server was smiling and friendly, good service. [Overall Impression] Not flashy, but each curry has its own character and is delicious. Especially recommended for those who want to enjoy a variety of tasty fish curries.

Today, I had a leisurely lunch at a Bengali restaurant called "Puja," located in a townhouse area that I don't usually visit. The Bengali region spans East India and Bangladesh, and "Puja" refers to Hindu worship rituals. The restaurant was located in a shopping mall called Lions Plaza, which had a retro feel to it. The interior had a religious vibe, with various deities displayed around the seating area. I ordered a lunch set with three curries: fish roe tomato curry, red snapper mustard curry, and chicken curry. The dishes were served with basmati rice, dal, pickles, and a side of fish curry. The food was delicious, especially the chicken curry, but I found that mixing the different curries together blurred the flavors. Overall, the curries were tasty and had a healthy appeal. It was a satisfying meal.

We headed to the restaurant while discussing where Bengal tigers, Bengal cats, and Bengal are. Since there was no parking or bicycle parking, walking there was easy. When we visited, the restaurant was packed during lunchtime! It's so popular! There were four daily specials, so my partner and I each ordered two and tried them all. We were worried about how spicy they would be, but all the curries were mildly spicy and easy to eat. The mustard curry (served in a large dish) was unusual! The fish roe tomato curry was a bit salty. Lentil curry and pickle were included as well. Despite the large portions, the curries were light and we quickly finished them all. The owner was also a delightful person who taught us a lot about the culture of the Bengal region. It's a great restaurant that I would like to visit again.

On weekdays, I had a relaxing dinner at 20:00. Finally visited the No.1 townhouse restaurant on Tabelog that I had never been to before. It felt like it was a bit late to go, but finally had the chance. I was the only customer with no one else there. It was quiet and nice. I had a Bengali meal set at "Tara" for 2800 yen, which included rice, salad, croquette, bean curry, vegetable dish, mustard curry with ilish fish, bean crackers, chutney, and dessert. The portions were not too big as each dish was served in small quantities. You could choose from two types of curry, and I chose the mustard curry because the owner recommended it. It was really delicious, but the fish bones were a bit overwhelming, so I had to be careful while eating. The rice was very long and thin with a unique aroma, not like jasmine or spices, more like old rice. This could be a matter of personal preference. The interior of the restaurant had a Bengali vibe with a clean and cute Asian style. There were tables and raised seating areas, which seemed convenient. Maybe I had too high expectations. It was fine that they didn't have naan, but the rice was not to my liking. However, all the sauces were delicious. It might be good to try a different menu next time. Thank you for the meal!

Anna, who organizes the "Bangladeshi Home Cooking Gathering," has started distributing a booklet called "My Favorite Bengali Proverbs" at the shop, which she co-created with the shop owner's wife, Shonchita. I visited for lunch for the first time, intrigued by Anna's focus on Bengal and her ability to produce various booklets. I had a faint hope for a special Bengali New Year menu, but that was only available for dinner. So, I ordered a set meal with two types of curry: Suzuki tomato curry and shrimp mustard coconut curry. For starters, I had fish croquettes, which were delicious with a kick of green chili. The croquettes, Suzuki, and shrimp were all tasty, and the plate was impressive from start to finish. It was definitely worth sneaking out of the office for this meal!

"Bengal" is the name of a region that spans India and Bangladesh, known for dishes featuring rice and fish. I felt a sense of pride from the sign at the entrance saying "no naan available." I tried the 'C set' which includes 3 types of curry: 1) Home-style red snapper, 2) Mustard coconut shrimp, and 3) Chicken curry. All of them had a nice level of spiciness, suitable even for those who are not good with spicy food. The Mustard coconut curry was unique with a spicy mustard flavor and a hint of sweetness. I mixed all the curries with basmati rice and enjoyed every bite. Of course, I had a rice refill for an extra 100 yen. [Visit date/time] Tuesday holiday (cloudy) / 1:35 PM [Queue] None [Amount spent] 2,300 yen [Serving time] Approximately 9 minutes

The curry I ordered, which was supposed to be not spicy, was indeed not spicy (sometimes even when you ask for it not spicy, it can still be spicy, so it was a relief to eat it comfortably). The chai I had in Japan was often too weak or lacked sweetness, but the chai here was sweet and rich, very delicious! I recommend it to those who miss Indian chai! The restaurant has both table and tatami seating, and they also have chairs for children. I ordered a children's set, which included a mildly seasoned keema curry that even a 1-year-old could eat comfortably. I would like to visit again. Thank you for the meal.

【Visit Time】Visited on a weekday a little before 12 o'clock, was seated in the restaurant at 12 o'clock. 【Atmosphere】Although it's a curry restaurant, the atmosphere feels more like an izakaya. The space is spacious, so you don't have to worry about the customers next to you. 【Food】Ordered three types of curry, each with its own unique taste, and all of them were delicious. 【Service】Seemed a bit busy as it was a one-person operation, but there were no issues. 【Overall】The dishes may seem simple at first glance, but each curry has its own unique taste and is delicious. In particular, the fish curry has its own distinctive feature, and I find myself ordering it every time I visit. Traveling over an hour one way to a unfamiliar town is solely for the purpose of eating the curry at this restaurant.

I ordered the C set (3 curry sampler) which includes red snapper home-style curry, shrimp mustard coconut curry, and chicken curry. The dishes arrived 5 minutes late (I called ahead to warn them, haha). This is an East Indian curry restaurant, so they don't serve naan. The food was served after a 9-minute wait. I started with the chicken curry, which was quite spicy. The meat was tender and came off the bone easily. The shrimp curry had a strong mustard flavor but was delicious. There were 2 plump shrimp in it. The red snapper curry was also spicy but tasty. It had a lot of small bones, so I had to be careful while eating. The lentil curry was the least spicy but still had a kick. The vegetable dishes were sweet and helped balance out the spiciness of the curries. The basmati rice was fluffy and paired well with the curries. The salad was plain, but it complemented the curries nicely. Overall, it was a delicious curry meal.
